Elena Smolina is a film critic, journalist, screenwriter, and development executive based in Los Angeles.
Raised in Moscow in the family of a comedy writer and book editor, Elena has regularly contributed to major publications in the Russian language, such as Meduza, GQ Russia, Vedomosti, Kommersant Weekend, Iskusstvo Kino, Afisha, Kinopoisk, and so on. From 2009 to 2012 she served as an Editor-in-Chief at Empire Russia, a local edition of the British film magazine. From 2012 to 2018, Elena was a Deputy Editor-in-Chief at GQ Russia, a Condé Nast International publication.
She has co-written all eight episodes of Avrora, a comedy series about a young woman grappling with alcoholism and temporary memory loss, created by Roman Volobuev. In addition to her work as a development executive for Hype Studios, she regularly reports from film festivals, profiles filmmakers, and reviews films for a variety of international media.
