One of my all-time favorite horror events was experiencing a live performance of Tales from Beyond the Pale at the Overlook Film Festival in 2016. Such an incredible amount of work is put into these horror audio dramas from the cast, sound engineer, and especially series creators Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid. If they announce any new live performances, it's absolutely worth your time to make a trip to see it, but they're giving horror fans the ability to listen to new horror audio dramas from the comfort of their home every week.
Today, we have details on the launch of a a weekly Tales from Beyond the Pale podcast that will see a mix of new stories with content from their archives, featuring an impressive cast of horror talent. Starring Clay McLeod Chapman and Larry Fessenden, the first release is a brand new audio drama called Reappraisal that will be available on multiple podcast providers,...

Marvel Knights: X-Men #1
Written by Brahm Revel
Pencils by Brahm Revel

Published by Marvel
A mutant boy runs through the forest at night, like a victim in a slasher movie. His death sends a psychic shock all the way to Rachel Grey, bringing Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, and Rogue into Appalachia to investigate. From the raw pencils and dark palette, to the scope of the plot, this book feels vintage in a great way. The titular heroes touch the core of what makes the X-Men so appealing. Marvel Knights: X-Men is a welcome nostalgic comic, but that cuts both ways.
The story and the art capture the prescient humanity inherent in the X-Men. They exist to fight discrimination. No other team is so well defined by its goals. There’s a direct thematic connection to American Civil Rights and Lgbt rights movements. The murdered teen resonates with both,...

From Oni Press, "Guerillas" Volume 2, available May 2012, is written and illustrated by Brahm Revel :
"...a strange tour of duty in Vietnam for 'Private John Francis Clayton' gets even stranger as he struggles with the unbelievable facts he is faced with.
"The elite platoon of 'simian soldiers' he's encountered don't make any more sense to him than the war he's been sent to fight.
"But is this squad of chain-smoking chimps the most dangerous force in the jungle or are they merely a distraction from a larger menace culivating in the wild?..."

With Hollywood turning more of its attention to the world of graphic novels for inspiration, I'll cast the spotlight on a new comic book each week that has the potential to pack a theater or keep you glued to your television screens. At the end of each "Adapt This" column, you'll also find some thoughts from the industry's top comic creators about the books they'd like to see make the jump from page to screen.
This Week's Book: Guerillas by Brahm Revel
The Premise: Meek, gun-shy Private John Francis Clayton is on his first tour of duty in Vietnam when his platoon is ambushed by enemy forces. Surviving out of sheer cowardice, he discovers that he's the only survivor of the massacre, left alone in the jungle with enemies all around him. All is not lost, however, as he soon encounters the simian soldiers of an experimental squad of military-trained chimpanzees.

If you loved the adventures of 18th-century graverobbers Arthur Blake and Willie Grimes in Glenn McQuaid’s I Sell The Dead, or are just waiting for the acclaimed movie to make its DVDebut, you’ll want to pick up the comic-book adaptation that hits stores tomorrow from Image Comics. The adapatation was written by McQuaid himself, with art by Brahm Revel.
Image’s I Sell The Dead features 40 full-color pages reconting Blake and Grimes’ adventures among the living, the dead and the living dead, with an additional five pages on the art of the movie. Revel did design work on the feature as well as producer Larry Fessenden’s directorial efforts Wendigo and The Last Winter, and illustrated comics versions of those films too. See our review of I Sell The Dead, which stars Dominic Monaghan, Fessenden, Ron Perlman, Angus Scrimm and Brenda Cooney, here and the flick’s official website here.

We've been telling you about Glen McQuaid's I Sell The Dead for almost a year now, and the much-buzzed-about film is finally making it's way to the masses.
Currently playing NYC's Quad Cinema and soon to hit Los Angeles and Cambridge, I Sell The Dead will open Nationally tomorrow On-Demand via IFC In Theaters. To give you a look inside the film, IFC sent over an exclusive making-of featurette created by producer/star Larry Fessenden that can be viewed below along with further details on where you can see the film.
A Statement from the Director of I Sell The Dead:
A few years back I made a short film called The Resurrection Apprentice. A simple story of a young boy’s first night on the job as a grave-robber. I’ve always been fascinated with the fog-drenched, blood-soaked films of Amicus and Hammer. The short was an homage to that sort of thing.

Revisionist horror favorite Larry Fessenden (director of Habit, Wendigo and The Last Winter) returned to Montreal’s just-wrapped Fantasia film festival this year with two new films from his indie-horror production company Scareflix: Ti West’s incredibly atmospheric ‘80s horror tribute House Of The Devil (a smash success at Tribeca and a late but great addition to the Fantasia program; see review here) and Glenn McQuaid’s period horror-comedy tribute to British ‘60s/’70s horror classics, I Sell The Dead (another Fango rave; see here; I Sell The Dead goes into limited theatrical release this Friday and is concurrently available as a video-on-demand from IFC Films).
Fessenden was on hand with co-producer Peter Phok and first-time feature director Glenn McQuaid for their award-winning I Sell The Dead, a one-of-a-kind dark adventure film depicting the daily lives and supernatural woes of two lowlife body-snatchers, played by Fessenden himself and Dominic Monaghan...

Larry Fessenden, the modern Roger Corman of the New York area filmmaking scene, visited our East Coast Weekend of Horrors recently with a bunch of the directors whose flicks he’s backing via his Glass Eye Pix company. Fango spoke to them behind the scenes to get the scoop on a trio of upcoming co-productions between Glass Eye and Mpi Media Group; we start with Hypothermia, a creature feature from James Felix McKenney, the man behind The Off Season, Automatons and the upcoming Satan Hates You (which we recently premiered the new trailer for here).
McKenney’s wearing a Creature from the Black Lagoon belt buckle when he visits the convention, and tells us, “Hypothermia is very much inspired by Creature, one of my favorite movies of all time—I’m obsessed with it. People are constantly re-exploring werewolves, vampires, the Frankenstein story—but, you know, the Creature’s the Creature.
