YouTube and Portal A’s Lgbtq+ documentary State of Pride will have its worldwide debut at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW).
The film follows former YouTube employee and current activist Raymond Braun in his journey to discover how Lgbtq+ people across America celebrate Pride. It’s set to be distributed on YouTube Premium in June -- which is fitting, because that's Pride Month. The release is also timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, an infamous event where members of the Lgbtq+ community fought back after police raided a well-known New York City gay bar.
Ahead of all that, though, it’s been chosen by SXSW as an opening night premiere, and will bow March 8 alongside films like Jordan Peele’s This is Us and Harmony Korine’s Snoop Dogg flick The Beach Bum.

YouTube, a longtime corporate advocate -- and occasional adversary -- of the Lgbtq+ community, has greenlit a feature film titled State Of Pride that is set to be released on the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York, (which marked protests against police raids of gay bars).
The film, slated to launch next Pride month in June 2019, will star former YouTube employee-turned-noted Lgbtq+ activist Raymond Braun, who will travel to major cities and rural towns across America to chat with local residents about how they celebrate Pride. “The film features powerful conversations with inspiring individuals as they open up about Pride and how it has changed over the past 50 years,” YouTube content chief Susanne Daniels described in a statement.

During this year’s Democratic primaries, Hillary Clinton lost the youth vote in decisive fashion. As she moves toward the general election, she is now attempting to court the teens and twenty-somethings to her bloc. One way she is appealing to the millennial generation is through online video stars, who had a chance to ask her questions during a town hall event in Los Angeles on June 28th.
The event was curated by Beautycon, which organizes a yearly festival for beauty gurus and their fans. Beautycon brought several top creators in front of the former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State for an hour-long question-and-answer session moderated by YouTube beauty star DulceCandy. In total, according to The Hollywood Reporter, 100 digital media personalities event. More so than any other presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton has utilized YouTube as a potent tool for attracting young voters. She has sat for interviews with digital outlets, fielded questions from YouTube stars, and followed notable creators on her official Twitter account. In her campaign’s latest overture to the online video community, it gave vlogger Raymond Braun a chance to go behind-the-scenes as the former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State toured South Carolina.
Braun runs his own channel, but he’s best known as the engineer of YouTube’s #ProudToLove campaign, which celebrated the wealth of Lgbt content creators on the site. He’s also a former Clinton intern who worked on her staff during her 2008 presidential run. Eight years later, he reached out to her team in hopes of vlogging about it, and he ultimately received special access to her campaign as it rolled through the Palmetto State.
