Controversial actress-model Poonam Pandey has yet again made headlines after she said she “faked” her death to start a national conversation on cervical cancer. In the bargain, like she always manages to do, she has left behind a trail of polarised views on social media.
When Poonam’s social media account released a statement on her having succumbed to cervical cancer at 32, the industry was left in a state of shock, while many grieved several felt it was a publicity gimmick.
Kangana Ranaut, whose show ‘Lock Upp’ gave Pandey her reality TV star status, was the first to ‘mourn’ her ‘death’.
The actress wrote on her Instagram Stories, “This is so sad. Losing a young woman to cancer is a catastrophe. Om Shanti!”
Now, after Pandey’s re-appearance, her critics are accusing her of engaging in a publicity stunt and being insensitive to the feelings of people living with cervical cancer.

New Delhi, April 26 (Ians) Opium nearly smoked out China, made Britain acquired tainted wealth and laid the foundation of the fortunes of many a notorious trading house, most infamously Jardine Matheson, and made a number of early 19th-century Bombay Parsi families, who were middlemen in the East India Company’s illicit opium trade, very rich.

London, April 15 (Ians) Human body’s rhythms may determine our behaviour, according to a smartphone-based study.
Researchers from the Leiden University in the Netherlands analysed the usage data of hundreds of mobile phones and discovered that the human body, both of men and women, has rhythms ranging between seven and 52 days. These cycles influence how we behave.
“If people think they just live their lives, deciding their behaviour for themselves, and that there is no overarching structure, they’ve got it wrong,” said researcher Arko Ghosh, from the varsity.
The findings, described in an article in the journal npj Digital Medicine, showed that recurring patterns do not occur only in these kinds of psychological and neurological conditions, but that everyone has cycles lasting several days.
“These cycles influence our behaviour. How they influence that behaviour and what behaviour relates to what particular times in the cycle is something we haven’t studied yet,...

New Delhi, Aug 23 (Ians) Short-video making app Chingari on Tuesday announced its first-ever video non-fungible token (Nft) marketplace, Creator Cuts, to let creators mint their videos and sell them on the marketplace.
The platform said Creator Cuts will let buyers of these NFTs get 10 per cent of the daily income in Gari, the platform’s native token, earned by the creator on the engagement they receive on their videos on the Chingari app.
“At Chingari, empowering and enabling creators to engage effectively and intrinsically with their community has been the cornerstone of our success since our inception,”ASumit Ghosh, co-founder and CEO, Chingari and Gari token, said in a statement.
“We believe in the immense potential of the Creator Economy and are wholly committed to its growth and democratisation across the spectrum,” Ghosh added.
A unique price has been assigned to every video depending on the creator’s activity on the Chingari app.

New Delhi, Aug 22 (Ians) India is witnessing a boom in deeptech startups in niche areas like cybersecurity, quantum computing, AI and semiconductor, and the country is now home to more than 3,000 such startups that raised 2.7 billion in 2021 — a 1.6 times growth over 2020 — a new Nasscom report said on Monday.
The country added over 210 deeptech startups in 2021 alone, and Bengaluru and Delhi-ncr are leading them in the country, according to a Nasscom-Zinnov report.
“The Indian deeptech ecosystem has also fortified the job creation with over 4,000 people being employed across 14 potential deeptech unicorns and is expected to increase by 2X in headcount by 2026,” said Debjani Ghosh, President, Nasscom.
The country is now home to 500 inventive deeptech startups, creating workforce across technologies such as drones, robotics, 3D printing and AI — with the potential to develop new intellectual properties backed by scientific advances and fundamental research.
