He was a cellist and teacher. He was a member of several American orchestras and a soloist in North America and Europe. He gave the first US performances of works by Kodály, Lutoslawski, Henze, and Ginastera. He taught cello and chamber music at the University of Texas at Austin for almost 4 decades.
