New Delhi, May 25 (Ians) Legendary fast-bowler Jhulan Goswami believes it is important for the senior India women’s team to have a head coach in a long-term period instead of resorting to chopping and changing frequently, citing the two global tournaments scheduled in the next two years.
The India women’s team has been without a head coach since Ramesh Powar was moved to the National Cricket Academy (Nca) in December 2022. The side then had Hrishikesh Kanitkar joined as its batting coach and reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup earlier this year in South Africa without a head coach.
“The next two years are going to be crucial, with two major Icc events lined up: the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2024 and the Odi World Cup in India in 2025. It is important that we appoint a head coach for a longer period of time and not chop and change frequently.

Before the Wpl, there was the Women’s T20 Challenge from 2018 to 2022, where three teams played in a round-robin group followed by the final. But there were always a voice about having a full-fledged Ipl-style like tournament, which was always delayed with excuse related to bench strength.
But once the plunge to get the Wpl up and running was taken, the Brabourne and D.Y. Patil Stadiums became witness to excellence from uncapped India players, who were either young or had done the hard yards in domestic cricket for a long time.
Left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque took 15 wickets for Mumbai while Shreyanka Patil and Kanika Ahuja shined for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Parshavi Chopra, the India U19 leg-spinner, was impressive for Up Warriorz, a side which gave consistent chances to young Indian players like Shweta Sehrawat, Simran Shaikh and S Yashasri.

Mumbai, March 21 (Ians) Mumbai Indians (Mi) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) by four wickets in Match 19 of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) on Tuesday at the D.Y Patil Stadium here to take the top spot.
With the win, Mumbai hold the provisional top spot and will have to wait for the result of the match between Delhi Capitals and Up Warriorz to ensure their direct qualification to the final.
Amelia Kerr mixed guile, flight, and turn to pick up three wickets (3-22) as a disciplined bowling effort from the Mi bowlers restricted Rcb to 125/9 in 20 overs. Yastika Bhatia then provided a good platform with a 26-ball 30 before Kerr’s calculated knock of 31 not out off 27 balls helped Mi seal the chase after a slight stutter in the middle.
Chasing 126, Mi survived a scare first up as Hayley Matthews was adjudged Lbw off the first ball of the innings...

Navi Mumbai, March 15 (Ians) Superb bowling by Ellyse Perry (3-16) and fine late-order hitting by Kanika Ahuja (46) and Richa Ghosh (31 not out) helped Royal Challengers Bangalore Women Up Warriorz by five wickets in the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) 2023 at the Dr Dy Patil Academy here on Wednesday.
Australia international Perry claimed the crucial wicket of compatriot Grace Harris, who had rescued Up Warriorz with a vital contribution of 46, and added the wickets of all-rounder Deepti Sharma (22) and Shweta Sehrawat (6) to help restrict them to 135 l out in the 19.3 overs. Sophie Devine had caused the early damage after skipper Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to bowl first.
In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore had Devine blasting 14 runs in the first five balls of the opening over — hitting two fours and a six but fell to Grace Harris on the last ball, caught by Tahlia McGrath as she failed to keep a slog sweep down.
