Exclusive: LA’s Nicely Entertainment has acquired campy telemovie Ladies of the ‘80s: A Divas Christmas, and is bringing its soap opera shenanigans to the Cannes Market.
The film stars Loni Anderson (Wkrp in Cincinnati), Morgan Fairchild (Falcon Crest), Linda Gray (Dallas), Donna Mills (Knots Landing) and Nicollette Sheridan (Knots Landing) as five glamorous soap opera stars who reunite to shoot the final Christmas episode of their long-running show. Producer Alex (Travis Burns) and director Nell (Taylor Ann Thompson) do their best to keep things on the rails but old rivalries resurface and threaten to tear the production apart. The divas are forced to put their differences aside and the show becomes an unexpected ratings hit, creating a new TV format for them and a romance for Alex and Nell.

Tonight, Lifetime will jump on the sentimental trend of reuniting veteran actresses for our giddy enjoyment by airing Ladies of the 80s: A Divas Christmas, a festive romp that stars Loni Anderson (Wkrp in Cincinnati), Morgan Fairchild (Falcon Crest), Linda Gray (Dallas), Donna Mills (Knots Landing) and Nicollette Sheridan (Knots Landing).
The holiday flick from longtime producer Larry A. Thompson (Liz & Dick) follows five soap opera divas as they reunite to shoot the final Christmas episode of their long-running sudser.
“I’ve known all these ladies all these years,” he told Deadline. “We’ve worked together, made movies together, and Donna Mills I’ve managed since Knot’s Landing and I still do. So between managing Donna and being friends with the ladies, I said it might be fun to have all these ladies in a movie. And there’s been a trend lately of older stars joining together to be in movies,...

Christmas might not be until December, but some networks are slapping on their mittens and gearing up for the holiday season as early as October.
Families often find themselves gathered around the TV binging some of Hallmark or Lifetime’s latest Christmas-themed films, and this year is no exception. With people around the country encouraged to stay indoors and avoid crowded locations, Variety breaks down a list of feel-good Christmas movies to tune into this year.
As part of Lifetime’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday movie slate, the channel will premiere 30 original TV movies beginning Oct. 23 and running through mid-December. In its efforts to diversify the stories it showcases, Lifetime said it worked with GLAAD and Cape (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) for its first-ever LGBTQ-led film “The Christmas Setup” and “A Sugar & Spice Holiday” centering on an Asian American family.
More films will be added to the list as networks announce them.

He is not believed to be in talks with Fox News. New Jersey ethics rules prevent Christie from engaging in serious negotiations while in office, but he has been exploring his options with both cable news and law firms. Christie’s spokesperson.

As technology evolves, so does art. Movies went through revolutionary changes when sound was added, and again when color became the norm. For director Ang Lee, simply making one major change for his next movie isn.t enough. Lee.s next film Billy Lynn.s Halftime Walk will be shown next month for the first time in its intended way. This means that it will be seen in 3D, with a 4K Hdr resolution, and at 120 frames per second. While 3D in cinemas has become a fairly standard occurrence, your traditional movie theater projector creates the three-dimensional image by producing each of the two necessary images in an alternating fashion. At the Future of Cinema Conference in Las Vegas, where Billy Lynn.s Halftime Walk will be shown, video manufacturer Christie will be providing a dual laser projector which will allow for a significantly brighter image than a standard projector.

The 4th was with us this May bank holiday, with ‘Star Wars Day’ heralding the release of a wave of new information and pictures from The Force Awakens from Vanity Fair.
The biggest reveal was the official confirmation that Girls’ Adam Driver would indeed be playing ‘broadsaber’-wielding villain Kylo Ren. This had been widely speculated, but now we know for sure it’s Driver under that mask, with a picture of him on set revealed as well, showing an unmasked Ren accompanied by First Order snowtroopers, on a frozen planet that plays home to their secret base (it being Hoth would be an ironic turn of events).
Ren is expected to be the film’s main antagonist, and the teasers released so far have shown him not only with his controversial weapon, but also commanding an army of stormtroopers in what appears to be a raid on a village.

Believe it or not, Vanity Fair has been your one stop shop for all The Force Awakens info on this May the Fourth, with behind the scenes pictures and the reveal of who will be behind the mask of the villainous Kylo Ren. Now, they have revealed previously unknown role of Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, and it's a character we've have seen all too briefly in the latest trailer for Jj Abrams highly anticipated continuation of the Star Wars saga. Glimpsed clad in her pretty sweet chrome Stormtrooper armour, Christie will be playing Captain Phasma, an officer in the First Order (we've been hearing quite a lot of this today. Are they The Force Awakens answer to the Empire?) with a legion of Stormtroopers under her command, who will be taking up villain duties beside Adam Driver's Kylo Ren.

Another day, another nugget of news about J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII… Today, we’ve heard again from Badass Digest’s Devin Faraci, who last brought us a very intriguing scoop about the film opening with a lightsaber falling into the hands of a struggling protagonist played by John Boyega. Whether or not that’s true remains to be seen, but Badass is back with some more neat information about the blockbuster – this time regarding the character playing by Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie.
According to Faraci, Christie’s character is an imperial officer hunting Boyega’s character, who is potentially a deserter. Faraci added that the actress has been training with a lighsaber, teasing:
“Could she be an Imperial officer who has a lightsaber? Or is it something more? I’m hearing the S word.”

After much harrumphing that the new Star Wars film was in danger of not being Title IX compliant, the Force was somewhat balanced yesterday with the announcement that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie had been cast in J.J. Abrams’ space epic. That’s hardly gender parity — with Carrie Fisher and newcomer Daisy Ridley the only other females currently announced — but it’s certainly a substantial and necessary improvement for a traditionally boys-heavy franchise entering the post Hunger Games universe. Thus far, the only significant female Star Wars characters in six episodes have been...

When the new "Star Wars" cast was announced, it was noticeably lacking in the lady department (adorable British newcomer Daisy Ridley was a notable exception). John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydom dominated the conversation, leading a number of journalists and fans to wonder about the female quotient of this new "Star Wars" movie. There are a number of Game of Thrones characters who would probably do pretty well in the Hunger Games arena, but it's hard to imagine that many would do better than Brienne of Tarth, the hardcore warrior woman played by Gwendoline Christie. We may never get to see exactly how that situation would play itself out, but at the very least we will now what it's like to see Christie inside the sci-fi universe. Deadline is reporting that the actress has signed a deal with the folks at Lionsgate that will see her replace Lily Rabe in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2. In the film, Christie will be playing Commander Lyme, a military leader out of District 2 and former Hunger Games victor who joins Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutchinson) and the rest of the rebellion against President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and the leaders of Panem.

Brienne of Tarth is going to Panem!
Variety reports that "Game of Thrones" star Gwendoline Christie is replacing Lily Rabe in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2."
Rabe had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with her upcoming performance in Shakespeare in the Park's "Much Ado About Nothing" this summer in New York City.
Now, Christie will take over the part of Commander Lyme, a leader of the rebellion who hails from District 2. Like Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Lyme was a victor of a past Hunger Games.
Tall and strong, Christie certainly looks the part of the fierce commander. In "Game of Thrones," she plays the sword-wielding warrior Brienne of Tarth, who's become a fan favorite for clashing with Jaime Lannister.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" hits theaters this fall, while "Mockingjay: Part 2" follows in fall 2015.

Appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America on Thursday, columnist Matthew Dowd revealed that he thinks the scandal surrounding Chris Christie and the closure of two lanes of the George Washington Bridge may end up helping him in the long run. Dowd said that triumphing over political adversity ultimately benefits candidates and, presuming no additional damning information is revealed, Christie will be strengthened by his experience defusing this damaging political scandal.

Roughly 93% of Australia.s 2,000 screens will be fully digitised by late October when Reading Cinemas completes the conversion of its 200 screens in Australia and New Zealand.
That leaves about 140 independently .owned screens that are still showing 35mm prints, according to Adrianne Pecotic, CEO of the Independent Cinemas Association of Australia. She can.t predict when the remaining indies will complete digital upgrades but says, .We are doing everything we can to support full conversion..
Distributors say they are supplying 35mm prints to 26-29 locations on a typically wide release in Australia, which will be reduced by 12 when Reading finishes its digital installs. Hence none seems ready yet to proclaim an end date to the 35mm cinema era.
