This Scottish singer-songwriter has churned out reliably solid albums since “Dark Horse and the Cherry Tree” launched her career in 2009 with a pedal-loop heard around the world. These days when Ed Sheeran plays entirely pedal-looped stadium-show sets, he often thanks Tunstall for the inspiration. But if she’s eluded you so far, Tunstall’s latest album Wax is a perfect entry point – an album full of feverish rock grit produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Nick McCarthy, imbued with a fierce stomp from from start to finish.

Theo Rossi, best known for his roles in “Sons of Anarchy” and “Luke Cage,” is set to join Mary J. Blige in Paramount’s “Body Cam.”
Nat Wolff is also on board with Malik Vitthal tapped to direct for Paramount Players. The project, produced by Matt Kaplan, was the first major purchase for Paramount Players chief Brian Robbins last year.
Nick McCarthy and John Ridley have performed rewrites of the spec script originally penned by Richmond Riedel. Described as “Get Out” meets “End of Watch,” the story follows several Lapd officers who are haunted by a malevolent spirit that is tied to the murder of a black youth at the hands of two white cops — all of which was caught on a body cam video that was destroyed in a cover-up.
Blige will portray a police officer in “Body Cam” who begins seeing visions and starts to investigate the cover-up.

Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall released a lavish new single titled “The River” on Thursday. The track will appear on Wax, her sixth LP, which is due out October 5.
“The River” opens in a place of frustration. “I’m holding on to something I don’t want to hold on to,” Tunstall sings. Sometimes a chorus serves as a source of hope, but this one offers little in the way of uplift. “I want to jump into the river, feel it on my skin,” Tunstall sings. “But the river is rocks and I’m already lost.

Director/writer Nicolas McCarthy’s 2012 debut The Pact draw favourable notices from horror aficionados for its old-fashioned and prolonged thrills and chills. His follow up, the brooding, apocalyptic-flavoured At the Devil’s Door (on limited release today over in the States) sees McCarthy working within a similar milieu but across a bigger canvas, cranking up the foreboding, dread-filled atmosphere to almost unbearable levels at times.
We had the opportunity to speak with the filmmaker recently to discuss the comparisons between his two features and his carefully-orchestrated bumps in the night.
HeyUGuys: Your first film The Pact seemed to register quite strongly over here in the UK. It felt very reminiscent of the kind of low-key horror film from a couple of decades back which would leave you pleasantly surprised after discovering and renting it from the local video shop.

Well this years Frightfest is over and I’ve had a week to digest everything – it’s safe to say this year was… interesting. The move from the Empire to Vue West End, whilst not without the odd teething problem, was a success. Yes, the atmosphere had changed a little, at least in terms of experiencing a film with hundreds of people instead of thousands, but the positives of the move truly outweighed any negatives. My personal positive? The wide range of films on show this year and that fact there was No problems getting into the Discovery Screens this year – which in my own case, was where I saw some of the best films of the festival.
Speaking of films, whilst there was no outstanding, totally blown me away, movie this year, there overall standard was Very high, with only one real dud of the entire week (and I...

Covering Fantasia for the first time was a hectic, enjoyable experience. They give you a badge with your name on it and everything. However, as for this year’s lineup, I have a little trouble being enthusiastic. With some major exceptions like Guardians of Galaxy, not listed here only because it’s appearance at the Festival seemed more coincidental than prestigious, a lot of the hyped up releases played weakly. Also, I’ve been no stranger to openly criticizing Fantasia audiences as a whole, more than willing to behave as sheep (or, in this case, cats) and applaud even the weakest of films due to a genre-note or laugh –however unintentional. So I found respite in some of the quieter films, and maybe a few major ones. No matter; Here are five things that truly deserve to gain wider audiences.

Now the British summer has made a belated reappearance, we can expect a few downsides such as hay fever, sunburn and insect bites - but no flying pests in our gardens can rival Dragon Wasps. And a can of the standard repellent probably won't do much good either.
This giant creature feature is written by Mark Atkins. His previous genre outings include numerous hit-inspired 'mockbusters' such as Snakes on a Train, 30,000 Leagues Under The Sea, War of the Worlds 2, Allan Quartermain and the Temple of Skulls, Princess of Mars (an alternative version of John Carter), Battle of Los Angeles and Avh: Alien vs Hunter.
He's also been involved in several dragon-themed productions including Dragonquest, Merlin and the War of the Dragons, and Dragon Crusaders.
Now offering an insect slant on the concept, the cast of Dragon Wasps features Corin Nemec (Stargate Sg-1, Smallville, Supernatural), Dominika Juillet (Dark Angel), Benjamin Easterday...

Title: The Pact Director: Nicolas McCarthy Starring: Caity Lotz (TV’s ‘Mad Men’), Casper Van Dien (‘Born to Ride,’ TV’s ‘Monk) and Haley Hudson (‘Marley and Me,’ ‘Freaky Friday’) Manipulating imagery and using psychological antics to motive characters are some of the most frightening elements in the horror genre. Scribe and helmer Nicholas McCarthy, who made his feature film writing and directing debut with the new IFC Films horror mystery thriller ‘The Pact,’ successfully used those elements in his first movie. Instead of just focusing on psychical scares, the filmmaker also effectively implemented emotions and relationships to drive the plot forward. ‘The Pact’ follows the independent and strong-willed Annie (played by [ Read More ]...

Things go bump in the night in a reassuringly old-school fashion during Nicolas McCarthy’s chilling feature debut, The Pact.
We caught up with the director recently to ask how his ghost story came about and some of the ways he managed to effectively stage the shocks and scares for his intended audience.
HeyUGuys: Your IMDb lists The Pact as a short film last year. Was it always your intention to test your idea that way before moving to a feature?
Nicolas McCarthy: The Pact began life as a short film but it wasn’t made as some kind of trailer for a feature. The short is similar to the opening of the feature film, but different in tone – it’s a sort of poetic character study and the horror in it is all implied. How the short differed from the previous films I had done was that it...

Nicolas McCarthy's The Pact, which debuted at Sundance as a short some time ago, will have its feature length premiere at this year's Sundance tonight. The film, along with movies like The Divide has helped spark a new production deal between Content and Preferred Content. The two companies already have basically the same name, so it should be easy for them to decide upon a shingle banner. Per Deadline, "Content Film has made a multi-year production deal with Preferred Content partners Ross Dinerstein and Kevin Iwashina. Essentially, Content will finance as many as six elevated genre films over the next two years. The latest collaboration between Content and Preferred Content is 'The Pact', the genre film that premieres tonight at midnight... Dinerstein would raise the under $2 million budgets, Content would sell international and Iwashina would sell North American rights. The new deal allows Dinerstein to focus on producing.
