To celebrate the release of Dead Water – available on Digital and DVD 5th October – we are giving away a DVD courtesy of Altitude Film Entertainment.
Dead Water sees a group of friends terrorised by a pirate on their yacht during a pleasure cruise. Unfortunately for the pirate, one of the group happens to be an ex-Marine who is teetering on the edge. It’s triple-crosses and terror (not to mention antique harpoon guns) from that point on, as the boat plunges into deeper water, and an extremely stormy climax.
“It’s gonna be fun!” says Brianne Davis (True Blood), at the start of the film, and it certainly is – but not if you were expecting calm seas. With Starship Troopers’ Casper Van Dien as a likeable, but somewhat shady lead, The Breakfast Club’s Judd Nelson a remarkably shifty bad guy, and The Magnificent Seven’s Griff Furst as a...

Some low-voltage thrillers are so thoroughly predictable as they meander toward an obvious outcome, they generate far more impatience than suspense. Exhibit A: “Dead Water,” a tepid VOD-ready melodrama that strikes faint echoes of Roman Polanski’s “Knife in the Water” and Phillip Noyce’s “Dead Calm” while ponderously padding 60 or so minutes of plot to feature length. Time and again, you may find yourself thinking, “Come on, come on, let’s get going.” And if you’re in the privacy of your home, well, thoughts may inspire irritably spoken words.
It doesn’t help much that director Chris Helton provides little in the way of distinctive visual stratagems or subtly ominous subtext during the long setup for his tale of a weekend yacht cruise that turns deadly. And it doesn’t help at all that, as the host of the excursion, Casper Van Dien is so transparently sleazy from the get-go,...

"Spooky, isn't it...? Out here, all alone..." Saban Films has revealed the trailer for this indie horror-thriller titled Dead Water, yet another thriller-on-a-boat movie (there seem to be more and more of these boat films these days - see also: Disappearance or Vampyrz on a Boat). When a relaxing getaway turns deadly, a former Marine must risk his life once again to save his wife and best friend from a modern day pirate; all the while trying to hold himself together as he faces the ghosts of the war he left behind. Casper Van Dien (of Starship Troopers fame) stars with Brianne Davis, Griff Furst, and Judd Nelson. This really doesn't look that good, but Casper Van Dien is still awesome - and that shot of him looking pissed is cool. Jump in. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Chris Helton's Dead Water, direct from YouTube: John...
