- He and Caesar were originally performers for the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. They would ride on the back of Belgian horses.
- He hid behind the trees and jumped out at Leslie Mann in Disney's George of the Jungle (1997). Charlie Sammut's two male African lions from Salinas, California's Monterey Zoo (Joseph and Caleb) performed the wrestling sequence with Sammut himself temporarily replacing Brendan Fraser. The lion stalking Leslie was actually Caesar. This entire scene was filmed on Kualoa Ranch in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
- He attacked Bowmanville Zoo's trainer Dave Salmoni in 1999.
- His best known appearance with Caesar was in Paramount's The Ghost and the Darkness (1996). Particular scenes in that film involve Bongo charging at the settlers, lurking in the grass and climbing trees.
- Nonidentical twin brother of Caesar. He was born at Cherry Brook Zoo. It permanently closed to the public in 2020.
