- Pope John Paul I was born on October 17, 1912 in Forno di Canale, Veneto, Italy [now Canale d'Agordo, Veneto, Italy]. He was a writer, known for Josef Meinrad liest Albino Luciani (1984). He died on September 28, 1978 in Vatican City.
- Was the first Pope to refuse the three-tiered papal crown. It has not been worn since.
- In one of the shortest reigns in papal history, he served only 33 days.
- Was elected Pope John Paul I on 26 August 1978. Was succeeded by Pope John Paul II.
- Since his reign covered most of the month of September, he was known as the "September Pope".
- Is currently the last Italian-born Pope so far.
