In anticipation of the home entertainment release of The Tunnel, HeyUGuys had the privilege to speak with one of the show’s more shadowy characters, Stephen Beaumont, played by Joseph Mawle.
With an open and honest reflection on his career to date, Mawle looked back to how dressing up in his youth set him on a collision course with the big and small screen, and the unenviable task of playing a Stark under George R.R. Martin’s ruthless pen. During our conversation he offered an in-depth commentary on the show in which he spoke enthusiastically about the dark undertones of The Tunnel and its exploration of moral ambiguity, before looking ahead to two of his upcoming film projects.
Why a career in acting? Was there that one inspirational moment?
[Laughs] Probably watching too many movies as a youngster, and wanting to be a bit like Mr Benn; to be able to...

Sky Atlantic's The Tunnel is moving into its end-game. Here's James' spoiler-filled review of episode 6...
This review contains spoilers.
Although there was much to like in this episode of The Tunnel, it has begun to feel like the show is settling into a routine for some of its instalments. The Truth Terrorist makes another threat/truth, this week involving injustice within the law’s treatment of young people by setting them on fire. He communicates this to journalist Danny Hillier. Hillier acts like a bit of a dick and Detectives Roebuck and Wassermann race against time to stop Tt from completing his latest statement on society and hope to catch him.
It makes for some dramatic TV, of that no one can argue, but after six episodes, we’re beginning to wonder if Tt actually has an endgame? The points he, and the show,...

Sky's The Tunnel is dramatically solid viewing. Here's James' review of episode 4...
This review contains spoilers.
After spending a couple of frantic weeks playing cat and mouse with the Truth Terrorist’s second truth, The Tunnel moved along to begin dealing with the next of Tt’s lessons, but in a rather different fashion to the one we’d become accustomed to. There was no shortage of pace and story stuffed into this fifth instalment but whereas we’d been learning about Tt, now the show shifted its focus back on to our detecting duo, Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann.
The Truth Terrorist’s presence was still keenly felt though, no more so in the opening scene which saw his disciple, the schizophrenic Benji, cut his Gp’s head off with a samurai sword. This formed part of Tt’s third truth that if...

The Tunnel's woven plot threads run the risk of losing the viewer at times. Here's James' review of episode three...
This review contains spoilers.
With its third episode, The Tunnel seems to entering a phase where it’s hoping the audience is just going to be able to keep up with everything, and trust in the creators that it’ll all make sense in the long run. The show could never be accused of being boring, but the pace is achieved by the introduction of yet more characters who seem to be fighting at times for a few minutes screen time, sometimes with muddy results.
Last week’s episode concluded with the Truth Terrorist (that term officially popped up in The Tunnel this week) unleashing the second of their “truths” they wish to teach the world. The cliffhanger was constructed so quickly that...
