Listeners of the Sound On Sight podcast might remember us playing some tracks from Canadian experimental artist / Mc / turntablist, Buck 65. Underpinned by an extensive background in abstract hip hop, his more recent music has extensively incorporated blues, country, rock, folk and avant garde influences. His latest music video “Superstars Don’t Love” is pretty amazing and so we felt we should spotlight it.
Using Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, this short video is directed by Toronto-based Freelance designer and animator Travis Hopkins, and is comprised by over 60 fictional movie title cards inspired by the lyrics of the track. That’s right; each title has been replaced with a lyric from the song. How many can you recognize just by looking at its typography.
After you try and guess where each title comes from, I highly recommend heading over to Art Of The Title for a full description of how the music video was created.

So, my punning linguists, you know what a sucker I am for wordplay. You would think, then, that these "handeliers" (light fixtures made from sturdy rubber gloves) would be right up my alley. Wrong. This is some creepy Jean Cocteau-looking design and I am not a fan. (Design Milk)
While we're on the subject of gloves, however, what do we think of this "Throne of Games" image? Would Ned Stark be rocking a Power Glove? (Throne of Games)
I don't really know, I don't do video games. . .or sports for that matter. But, But, this cover article for "Out" magazine? I'm impressed. Here is Michael Irvin (who is, according to some more knowledgable sources, a total dillhole) being very cool about homosexuality. That's a rarity in his profession, so I salute him. He may be a dillhole, but he's a progressive one. Thanks, Kballs! (Yahoo)
Speaking of being progressive,...

North by Northeast 2010 is upon us! That means I have ringing ears and a sore ass ahead of me, thanks to the over 600 live music acts and an ample assortment of music themed documentaries that are taking Toronto by storm this week. This is simply a list of things I plan on checking out during Nxne, things that I think my fellow dorks will appreciate. I’ll admit that I’m not as up on new music as some, if you want the real scoop on up-and-coming bands at Nxne then be sure to read Jessica’s Nxne 2010 picks.
We’re barely scratching the surface here though, there is so much to see and do at North by Northeast. Be sure to check out the official Nxne 2010 website for ticket info and the full schedule or just go buy a wristband and get out there and see what you can!

Sook-Yin Lee is often regarded as a bold actor and broadcaster. In 2001, for instance, she mooned TV cameras on one of her last days as a VJ at MuchMusic. And in the 2006 big-screen drama Shortbus, she performs non-simulated intercourse as the lead character, a sex-therapist.Which is why it's surprising that Lee is timid about the world premiere of Year of the Carnivore . she wrote and directed the feature . at the Toronto International Film Festival."I've been so scared!" the Vancouver native, host of CBC Radio's pop-culture show "Definitely Not the Opera," said in a recent interview."I love this movie, and you set it out into the world and you don't know if it'll get brutalized . or worse, ignored."So I've just been like: 'Oh my God, why do I make things? What am I doing?"'Year of the Carnivore . which...
