‘Blade,’ an eagerly anticipated Marvel Studios project, faced challenges long before the onset of strikes. This MCU film follows Eric Brooks, a renowned vampire hunter, and serves as a reboot of the beloved ‘Blade’ trilogy that helped shape the current MCU landscape.
Summarizing the numerous setbacks of ‘Blade’ proves difficult. Mahershala Ali, who pitched the idea to the studio and was announced as Blade in 2018, has seen the project endure ongoing script issues and multiple changes in writers and directors during its development.
Several months after parting ways with Yan Demange, the director of the movie, revelations are emerging. Sources from The Hollywood Reporter suggest that Mahershala Ali has wielded significant influence over the project.
Ali, involved in the ‘Blade’ project since 2019, handpicked Demange after Bassam Tariq’s departure in September 2022. Marvel initially provided Ali with a list of directors, but Ali, skeptical of their studio experience, conducted his own search and chose Demange.

“Blade” star Wesley Snipes has no time for the mess of the MCU.
Snipes posted on X about the upcoming remake being plagued by rewrites and an exodus of directors. The project was first announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali taking on the lead role that Snipes previously played. The film is set for a November 7, 2025, and recently lost director Yann Demange while gaining new screenwriter Eric Pearson.
“Blade, lordylordylordy,” Snipes wrote. “Folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough. Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they?”
Snipes starred as the titular character in the eponymous 1998 film. He returned for 2002’s “Blade II,” directed by Guillermo del Toro, and 2004’s “Blade: Trinity.”

In the past, comic books and superhero movies lacked diversity, but times have changed for the better. Now, there’s more diversity in this beloved genre of fiction.
That’s why fans have gathered on Ranker to vote for the top 10 superhero movies that highlight black superheroes. Some results may surprise you, while others were expected.
10. ‘Blade Trinity’ (2004)
The third installment of the original franchise didn’t receive much praise and is seen as a weak point in an otherwise stellar series. Personally, it wouldn’t make my top 10 list. However, considering how the franchise played a crucial role in Marvel’s financial revival, I understand why fans hold sentimental value for it.
9. ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ (2014)
‘The Winter Soldier’ doesn’t solely focus on a black superhero, but it did introduce Sam Wilson as Falcon to the MCU. This was a pivotal moment because, as many know, Sam...

There was a time in the past when comic books and movie adaptations of superheroes were not all that diverse. Luckily the times have changed and now there is a lot more color in that special part of fiction.
This why fans have gathered on Ranker to vote for the top 10 superhero movies that focus, in one way or another, on black superheroes. Some results might surprise you, while some were perfectly reasonable to expect.
10. ‘Blade Trinity’ (2004)
The third installment of the original franchise wasn’t received all that well and it’s considered a dark spot on the otherwise fantastic franchise. Personally, the movie wouldn’t cut it in my top 10, but taking into account that the franchise overall indirectly saved Marvel from going bankrupt I can understand why fans are sentimentally tied to it.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade, released in 1998, stands as a prominent landmark in superhero cinema. It paved the path for the significant Marvel movie adaptations of Spider-Man and X-Men. The Stephen Norrington brainchild still raises conversations among fans for its sleek action style.
While there are several notable action set pieces in the entire Blade Trilogy, nothing can top the opening Blood Rave scene from the first part. Even after 26 years, it is an excellent example of R-rated action done right.

Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the Wesley Snipes starrer went on to become a cult classic among fans. It excelled at portraying an entertaining blend of superhero action with R-rated horror. There could be nothing better than the Blood Rave scene to open the superhero classic.

Less than two weeks ago, we reported dissatisfaction among key players regarding the script and the current state of the movie. However, it’s not surprising that the director has exited first.

Director Yann Demange has exited Marvel Studios’ long-anticipated reboot of Blade, Deadline has confirmed.
Attached to the film since 2019, when he joined Marvel chief Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con to roll out the project, Mahershala Ali remains aboard to star, we’re told.
Sources stressed that Demange’s exit from the project was entirely amicable, though it signals perhaps another delay on Blade‘s path back to screens. Initially prepping for production in fall 2022 before the exit of director Bassam Tariq, the project again faced delays last year amid the writers’ strike.

Another one bites the dust.
Filmmaker Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) is no longer set to direct “Blade,” Marvel Studios’ long-in-the-works reboot of the vampire superhero franchise set to star Mahershala Ali. This is the second director to leave the project; Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”) exited the production in 2022.
Insiders say Demange departed the film amicably weeks ago, as development on the project has stretched over multiple years. Screenwriter Eric Pearson, who co-wrote “The Fantastic Four” for Marvel, is the latest scribe to take on the “Blade” script, after at least five other writers have taken passes on the film, including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto.
While Marvel has not officially moved “Blade” off of its Nov. 7, 2025, release date, it is looking increasingly unlikely that the project will be able to start production in time to make that date. The next four Marvel films on...

2008’s Iron Man kick-started the Marvel Cinematic Universe and 2012’s The Avengers put the connected franchise into the mega-spotlight for featuring one of the biggest live-action comic crossovers ever. Marvel has several upcoming projects slated for release in the coming years. Many of these projects have faced delays or cancellations due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike that affected the entire industry. One highly anticipated Marvel Studios project, ‘Blade,’ encountered issues even before the strikes began.
‘Blade’ is an MCU movie centered around Eric Brooks, a prominent vampire hunter in comics. It serves as a reboot of the beloved ‘Blade’ trilogy, which played a significant role in shaping the MCU as we know it today.

Since then, the project has grappled with constant script issues, leading to several changes in writers throughout its development.

Marvel has plenty of projects bound to be released in the next few years, and we know that most of these projects have been stuck in a sort of limbo due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the whole industry as a whole, causing plenty of projects to be both delayed or altogether canceled.

It would be hard to summarize all the problems that ‘Blade’ had so far, the main star of the movie Mahershala Ali approached the studio with the pitch a long time ago and was officially announced as Blade in 2018. Since then,...

Following his breakthrough role, Esposito quickly became a part of Amazon Studios’ The Boys, Anton Castillo in Far Cry 6, and, Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. Seemingly, the only place that Esposito hasn’t worked in is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, some recent photos were released which indicated how Giancarlo Esposito would look in the upcoming MCU movie!

The reason why we say “would” in the title is because a photo of what Giancarlo Esposito would look like in Captain America: Brave New World has been revealed.

One fandom's loss is another's gain, apparently. While Marvel Studios has been undergoing something of an identity crisis in recent years, capped by Disney's Bob Iger actually promising to slow down production of movies and shows during a shareholder call while Marvel's Brad Winderbaum recently copped to the shortcomings of the #ItsAllConnected approach, one of the bigger casualties has been the shaky status of the announced "Blade" movie. Starring the great Mahershala Ali as the eponymous vampire hunter, the film has undergone quite a bit of behind-the-scenes chaos, from directorial changes to significant amounts of creative overhaul -- to the extent, in fact, that the star reportedly came this close to parting ways with the studio altogether. Well, Marvel fans can consider this latest development as yet another troublesome sign. Dinosaur fans, meanwhile, have our permission to rejoice.

We’ve been closely monitoring the ‘Blade’ project, often with less-than-ideal updates, and now fresh rumors suggest another round of rewrites for the film. According to industry insider and notable leaker Daniel Richtman, significant revisions are underway, prompting the search for a new writer. The premise that makes up the plot of Wesley Snipesʼ Blade trilogy is an undisputed winner among all pop culture genres. Vampires and vampire hunters have been a fascination since the days of Bram Stokerʼs Dracula and it is no wonder that every other supernatural lore and mythology deals with the bloodsucking creatures of the night.

‘Blade’ has faced a rocky production journey with numerous delays. The latest rumors suggest that the film will be postponed yet again, shifting its release date from November 7, 2025, to an unspecified date in 2026.

Marvel has a lineup of projects set to be released in the coming years, but many have been affected by the historic SAG-AFTRA strike, causing delays and cancellations.
One highly anticipated project from Marvel Studios, ‘Blade,’ faced issues even before the strikes. It’s an McU-based movie following Eric Brooks, a prominent vampire hunter in comics, and a reboot of the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that helped shape the MCU.
Little is known about the ‘Blade’ movie, except that Mahershala Ali proposed the project and will portray the titular vampire hunter. Originally slated for release in 2023, the movie’s release was pushed to 2025 due to concerns about the script.
Various names were linked to the film, including Aaron Pierre, though his involvement ended according to reports from Variety.
Early on, there were conversations. As the project evolved, I’m no longer part of that — attached.
This is just one of many changes happening in the movie.

Marvel has plenty of projects bound to be released in the next few years, and we know that most of these projects have been stuck in a sort of limbo due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the whole industry as a whole, causing plenty of projects to be both delayed or altogether canceled.
One extremely anticipated Marvel Studios project that had problems way before the strikes began is ‘Blade.’ It is an McU-based movie following Eric Brooks, the most notable vampire hunter in comics, and a reboot of the already highly popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that contributed to paving the way for the MCU that we know today.
Next to nothing is known about the ‘Blade’ movie besides the fact that Mahershala Ali proposed the project and will be playing the titular vampire hunter. The movie was originally supposed to come out in 2023, but the release date was pushed...

Marvel has numerous projects slated for release in the coming years. Many of these projects have faced delays and cancellations due to the industry-wide SAG-AFTRA strike. One highly anticipated Marvel Studios project, ‘Blade,’ has faced challenges even before the strikes began. It’s set in the MCU and follows Eric Brooks, a renowned vampire hunter, rebooting the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy.
Little is known about the ‘Blade’ movie except that Mahershala Ali proposed the project and will portray the titular character. Originally scheduled for release in 2023, it was pushed to 2025 due to Ali’s concerns about the script. Recent reports suggest changes in the movie’s direction, including a shift away from focusing on Blade’s daughter. Additionally, there’s a rumor that the movie won’t be a period piece anymore and will move its filming location from Atlanta to London, possibly involving Black Knight.

Marvel has several upcoming projects slated for release in the coming years. Many of these projects have been stuck in limbo due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike, causing delays and cancellations throughout the industry. One highly anticipated project facing pre-strike issues is ‘Blade,’ an McU-based film featuring Eric Brooks, a renowned vampire hunter. This reboot of the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy, which played a significant role in shaping the MCU, has experienced setbacks.
While details about the ‘Blade’ movie are scarce, it’s known that Mahershala Ali initiated the project and will portray the titular character. Initially scheduled for a 2023 release, the movie’s debut has been pushed to 2025 due to Ali’s dissatisfaction with the script.
Director Yann Demange recently confirmed that the film will receive an R-rating, making it the second MCU movie to do so after ‘Deadpool 3.’ This rating is deemed necessary for the movie’s authenticity.

Of all the upcoming projects from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a total reboot film Blade starring Mahershala Ali in the lead as the superhero of the same name remains one of the most anticipated movies of Phase 5. This stands all the more truer after Wesley Snipes failed to land the perfect end-film in 2004 for his trilogy of The Vampire Hunter.

However, amid the growing anticipation for the film, multiple rumors have been popping up about the film and Ali’s involvement in it. One of these even reportedly claimed that Mahershala Ali had exited the Blade reboot project, making fans who were really looking forward to seeing him in the character of Eric Brooks panic. And after much wait, an industry insider has finally addressed the rumor.

Six bodies have been recovered in the devastating crash that killed three of Megan Hilty‘s family members, Et has confirmed. The announcement by Island County Emergency Management comes nearly one month after the plane crashed into Washington’s Puget Sound, killing 10, including Hilty’s sister, brother-in-law and their son, Remy. The Broadway star’s sister was also eight months pregnant at the time, expecting another son in October.
In addition, per Island County Department of Emergency Management Deputy Director Eric Brooks, on Sept. 16, there was a body discovered on Dungeness Spit in Sequim, Washington. The body has not been identified as one of the passengers yet, but if identified as such, it would bring the total recovered up to seven.

Though it certainly wasn’t without its faults, New Line’s Blade trilogy served up an overly faithful rendition of the fanged vampire hunter that ended far too soon with the release of David S. Goyer’s Blade: Trinity in 2004. And the Marvel fanbase has been quietly campaigning for a revival ever since.
For years, it seemed as though those cries had fallen on deaf ears, but when Blade‘s film rights reverted back to Marvel Studios in 2012, moviegoers began to stand up and take notice. One year later, we learned that Marvel had begun work on a script for Blade 4, which was later corroborated by Wesley Snipes himself, who assured viewers that both he and Marvel were trying to figure out the logistics of resurrecting Eric Brooks.

Not one to rest on his laurels, renown concept artist BossLogic has followed up his striking Captain Britain piece with a new one-sheet that imagines Jamie Foxx (Baby Driver) as Blade, the fan-favorite vampire hunter who has become a point of fixation among Marvel fans ever since the film rights reverted back to the studio – along with Frank Castle/The Punisher – all the way back in 2011.
Six years later, and comic book fans remain hopeful that the Daywalker known as Eric Brooks can one day stage a comeback, possibly carving out his own place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the process – as an R-rated feature, perhaps? That’s a proposition that has been presented to head honcho Kevin Feige multiple times in the past – albeit without the R rating – and the producer has consistently stressed that a live-action Blade reboot isn’t off the table.

Cast your mind back to New York Comic Con when Kate Beckinsale, star of the long-running Underworld franchise, seemingly let slip that Marvel Studios were working on rebooting Blade, be that in the form of a feature film, a spinoff Netflix series, or a role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. much like Ghost Rider before him.
Speculation spread across the interwebs like wildfire; after all, the character of Blade (Aka Eric Brooks) still resonates with comic book fans years after his last screen appearance, and after portraying the badass vampire hunter numerous times on the screen himself, Wesley Snipes continues to hint that there is something cooking over at Marvel.
Sadly, that’s not the case – not yet, anyway. While chatting about Captain Marvel and the upcoming future of the McU, Kevin Feige weighed in on the matter, stating simply that to his knowledge “there is nothing imminent.” It’s by no means an outright denial,...

There’s been much ado about a potential return of Blade on the big screen over the last several months. During July’s San Diego Comic Con, Blade himself, Wesley Snipes, said that he was in talks with Marvel about a new movie. Snipes played the character in three “Blade” movies, the last of which “Blade: Trinity” was released eleven-years ago in 2004. Bleeding Cool (via Coming Soon) now reports that Marvel Studios is actively crafting the blueprint for a new “Blade” film utilizing the framework of a new comic that focuses on the vampire superhero and his newly-created daughter. The comic was planned as part of the “All-New, All-Different Marvel,” relaunch and was set for release this October. It has since been pushed back, and Bleeding Cool contends that the decision was made by the Marvel higher-ups who are looking to craft a cinematic return for the character based on the comic’s storyline.

Talk of a new Blade movie stirred up again when Marvel regained the rights to their iconic daywalker. While no hard and fast plans have been put in motion, it’s not out of the question for the comic studio behemoth to have renewed interest in the franchise. The huge success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe twinned with the Sony deal reintroducing Spider-Man into that world is proof enough. Marvel Studios knows how to do its own material justice – and Wesley Snipes has even batted the idea around in several interviews.
According to a source over at Bleeding Cool, the studio is well aware of the comics’ popularity and plans to reboot it for the big screen. Except, with one significant change.
