Exclusive: Euro producer and sales firm Anton is heading to the virtual EFM with sci-fi drama Vesper Seeds, starring Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes), Raffiella Chapman (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Rosy McEwen (The Alienist), Richard Brake (Game of Thrones) and Melanie Gaydos (Insidious: The Last Key).
Shoot is due to begin in late March in Lithuania.
Set in a dystopian future after the collapse of the Earth’s ecosystem, the film will follow Vesper (Chapman), a strong-willed 13-year-old girl who uses her survival skills to subsist in the decaying remnants of the collapsed world with her ailing father, Darius (Brake). Sitges, Spain — Spaniard Alberto Gastesi’s “Singular” snagged the big prize at the 5th Sitges Pitchbox, a horror-fantasy-sci-fi showcase taking place on Friday at the Sitges Intl. Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, which hosted the event in partnership with online marketplace Filmarket Hub.
Following in the footsteps of Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman, Vincenzo Natali godfathered the Sitges Pitchbox, delivering a heartfelt master class to the Pitchbox’s largely young filmmakers.
A feature debut, “Singular” was presented by director and co-screenwriter Gastessi and screenwriter Álex Merino.

Like Ron Perlman in 2018 and Guillermo del Toro the year before, Canadian writer-director Vincenzo Natali, whose new Netflix film, an adaption of Steven King’s “In the Tall Grass” will innaugurate October’s Sitges Film Festival, is lined up to open this year’s Sitges Pitchbox, organized in by Barcelona-based platform Filmarket Hub. The Sitges Pitchbox take place Oct 4.
One of Canada’s most prominent genre filmmakers, Natali hit the international scene running with 1997’s “Cube,” a bloody low-budget cult classic that broke records for a Canadian horror film and won best film at that year’s Sitges Festival. Herreturned to the main competition at the Catalan fest in 2002 with “Cypher,” and in 2010 directed Canada’s highest-grossing English-language film “Splice,” which starred Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley.

Content has introduced Efm buyers to Emilis Velyvis’ all-time Lithuanian box office smash Redirected starring Vinnie Jones.
The UK-Lithuanian action comedy centres on the misadventures of four first-time robbers as they make their way home from Eastern Europe.
Velyvis co-wrote the screenplay with Jonas Banys. The cast includes Scot Williams, Gil Darnell and Oliver Jackson.
Asta Liukaityte, Daiva Jovaisiene, Donatas Simukauskas and Norbertas Pranckus produced and Jacqueline Quella and David Boaretto served as executive producers.
“Emilis knocks it out of the park with his virtuoso action and hysterical comedy,” said Content’s Jamie Carmichael. “It really is lightning in a bottle. Redirected is a box office champion at home and we’re convinced that the film can punch it’s way into cinemas everywhere.”
