A24 has unveiled the trailer for Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest.” The German-language Holocaust drama tells a chilling story of real-life German SS officer Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig, who raised their children in a farmhouse next door to Auschwitz. The film premiered this year at Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix, the fest’s second most prestigious award.
Based loosely on Martin Amis’ 2014 book of the same name, “The Zone of Interest” stars Christian Friedel as Rudolf and Sandra Hüller as Hedwig, along with Daniel Holzberg, Ralph Herforth and Sascha Maaz. The film was shot entirely in Poland and Germany by award-winning cinematographer Łukasz Żal.
Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman called the film “chilling and profound, meditative and immersive, a movie that holds human darkness up to the light and examines it as if under a microscope.” Gleiberman continued in his review,...

According to the official description, that triggers some good old-fashioned psychological warfare, with “seduction and jealousy” turning into “sexual infidelity, betrayal and eventually murder.”

The cutting-edge distributor, fresh from its recent three-Oscar haul, has acquired Us rights to UK wunderkind Ben Wheatley’s thriller.
Brie Larson, who won the Academy Award for A24’s Room, stars with Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, and Jack Reynor.
Sam Riley and Noah Taylor also star in the tale of a fight for survival that ensues when an arms deal in a remote warehouse goes awry. Amy Jump co-wrote the screenplay with Wheatley.
Martin Scorsese is on board as executive producer, while Andrew Starke is the producer. Additional executive producers are Sikelia’s Emma Tillinger-Koskoff, Reno Antoniades, Film4’s David Kosse and Sam Lavender, and Ben Roberts and Lizzie Francke from the British Film Institute.
Wheatley’s J G Ballard adaptation High-Rise starring Tom Hiddleston will open in the Us on April 28 via Magnolia Pictures.
A24 negotiated the deal with Wme Global. Protagonist Pictures handles international sales.

Getting a movie deal in Hollywood is only the beginning. Hammering out the details is when dreams and egos really collide
In Hollywood, the deal is king. Deals are how scripts get optioned, how stars and directors get signed up, how films make it to production. A good one can mean financial security and a name above the title. A bad one can be as dispiriting, gruelling and financially ruinous as building your dream house on unmarked floodland. The bad news is sometimes it's worse than that, and in the current financial climate it's getting tougher to make the right deal.
In these straitened times, George Clooney is allegedly settling for upfront fees of a paltry $2m, while Megan Fox has walked away from Transformers 3 because her salary demands "cannot be met". The most dramatic illustration of the difficulties Hollywood faces, though, comes in the plight of MGM – reportedly...
