Claudia Calvino has a degree in Production from the University of Arts in Havana. She also attended international workshops at the Film School of San Antonio de los Baños, and the EAVE Producers Workshop. Since 2005 Calvino has been working as an Independent Producer in Cuba, first as a partner of "Producciones de la 5ta Avenida" till 2019, and in 2020 she founded "Cachita Films" together with Carlos Lechuga.
Her credits as Producer and Executive Producer include films such as "Juan of the dead" (2011) directed by Alejandro Brugués and winner of the Goya Award to the Best Ibero-American Film in 2013; "Melaza" (2013), debut film by Cuban filmmaker Carlos Lechuga, and "Santa & Andres" (2016), also directed by Lechuga. The former had its premiere at Toronto and San Sebastian Film Festival, and won, among others, the Best Ibero-American Film Award at the Guadalajara Film Festival.
Ms. Calvino was selected by Variety magazine as one of the "Rising Stars: Latin American Talent" in 2013; and that same year she was in charge of the production in Cuba of the film "The Cut", by prominent director Fatih Akin.
She has participated in the production of feature documentaries like "Habana Muda", by French director Eric Brach, "Hotel Nueva Isla", directed by Irene Gutiérrez and Javier Labrador; and most recently "In a whisper", by cuban female directors Patricia Pérez y Heidi Hassan, premiered at the Official Competition of the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, IDFA, where it won the top prize for Best Feature Documentary.
In 2018 she coproduced the films "Yuli", by renowned Spanish director Iciar Bollain, produced by Morena Films, about the life of the Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta; and "The extraordinary journey of Celeste Garcia", directorial debut by Cuban scriptwriter Arturo Infante, coproduced with FassB Filmproducktion & The Match Factory from Germany.
