Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Puss In Boots: The Last Wish has secured a China release date on December 23, two days after its North American bow. Apart from Avatar: The Way of Water, this currently appears to be the only other Hollywood title dated through the end of the year in the Prc.
After a series of previews, the animated sequel just began its international box office rollout this weekend, grossing 8.9M in 24 markets including France and Italy among majors. Domestic is dated for December 21 with other key overseas markets including Spain, Germany, Mexico, Australia, Korea and Brazil on deck throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The 2011 original spin-off grossed 555M globally (unadjusted). It did not release in China. While the market has been depressed this year, Universal titles have seen fairly steady influx including Jurassic World Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Bad Guys.

Audiophiles rejoice! The new Puss in Boots: The Last Wish teaser features Puss performing Asmr with purrfect gusto. In the teaser, Puss (Antonio Banderas) snuggles up to a finely-leveled microphone, presenting a collection of soothing sounds for everyone to enjoy. After speaking into the mic for a soft and sultry introduction, Puss brushes his boots with a course black brush. Following his fancy footwork, Puss laps at a shot glass filled with delicious, calcium-rich milk. From there, he purrs into the microphone with unbridled enthusiasm. Finally, he unsheaths his sword and begins tapping the metal with his sharpened claws. Unfortunately, Puss’ session for sensory overload gets cut short when Perro (Harvey Guillen) interrupts the experience. Chaos ensues, and Puss needs to re-record and reconsider his friendship with a dim-witted dog.
With a fresh new animation style, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish finds Puss discovering that he’s used up eight of his nine lives.

Hey kids, want to see a movie revolving around an aging male character dealing with a mid-life crisis who’s desperately afraid of his impending mortality? Just in time for Christmas?
Not so much? Didn’t think so. Now what if I told you that it was a Puss in Boots movie?
It’s been nearly two decades since the adorable Puss made his screen debut in Shrek 2 and 11 years since his starring debut, and he’s worse for the wear. In an elaborate action sequence that opens his new animated adventure Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, he gets killed. That normally wouldn’t be a problem for a cat with nine lives, except that Puss has now lost eight of them. Naturally, that prompts a visit to his concerned physician (Anthony Mendez), who advises him to adopt some lifestyle changes.

Of all the movies due to hit theaters this holiday season, you probably didn't expect to have a "Puss in Boots" sequel sitting high on your list of much-anticipated titles. But based on everything we've seen and heard about this film, it's very much worthy of being on your radar. We first met Puss in Boots back in 2004, if you can believe it. The dastardly cat stole the show in "Shrek 2" and appeared in two more sequels before taking center stage in his 2011 spinoff. Over a decade later, he's returned, just as reckless as ever, but with a stunning new look.
A couple of months ago, /Film's Rafael Motamayor got to see a half-hour of footage from the movie at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. He praised the film for taking a page out of the "Into the Spiderverse" stylistic playbook, making it an exciting departure from the...

For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the “Shrek” universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet.
The character of Puss in Boots first appeared in 2004’s Oscar®-nominated Shrek 2 and instantly became a global, scene-stealing sensation. Puss then co-starred in two other Shrek sequels and his own solo film, as well as in multiple DreamWorks Animation videos and TV series. The “Shrek” and “Puss in Boots” films have collectively earned more than $3.5 billion worldwide.

More than ten years after the first movie debuted, Puss in Boots is back.
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” is headed to theaters and the trailer just dropped (watch it above). And looks fun and colorful, like the somewhat more sophisticated brand extension that it always was.
Universal describes the plot of this new “Puss in Boots” as following the character (once again voiced by Antonio Banderas) as “he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Soft Paws (Salma Hayek).” Only this time they are joined by “a ratty, chatty, relentlessly cheerful mutt, Perro (Harvey Guillén).”

“Jane the Virgin’s” Latin Lover narrator, the three-time Emmy-nominated voiceover veteran Anthony Mendez, will be taking his narrating talents over to Disney Plus for the new food art competition series “Foodtastic.”
Keke Palmer will host “Foodtastic,” where teams are challenged to create Disney-inspired works of culinary art. The show will push three teams of contestants to their creative limits in the kitchen, testing their ability to whip up whimsical and grandiose food sculptures made out of everything from cheese and butter to fruits and vegetables. The food artists’ completed masterpieces will be judged by design, technical skills and storyline, not by taste. Unused food from each competition won’t be wasted and will instead be donated to local food banks.
Mendez, who earned two of his three Emmy nods on “Jane the Virgin” (in 2015 and 2016), is expected to have some fun with Palmer and the contestants during his “Foodtastic” gig.

The final season of The CW's Jane the Virgin is at an end, which means it's time to direct our attention to the show's spinoff, Jane the Novela. Fans are obviously very excited about any new information about the project, so we went ahead and got some for you. Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman shared some juicy details about the upcoming series, which is being written by Valentina Garza, while speaking to journalists during the Television Critics Association press tour in January, and since then a bunch more tidbits have come out. Let's break it all down!

Warning: spoilers for Jane the Virgin below!
Pretty much ever since its premiere in 2014, fans of Jane the Virgin have theorized about the show's "Latin Lover Narrator." While it's known who voices him in real life - Dominican-American voice actor Anthony Mendez - many have suspected that, in the end, he'd be revealed to be someone important in Jane's life. Although I personally have always been partial to the idea that the mystery identity of the narrator would be Alba's late husband and Jane's grandfather, the Og Mateo, looking down on everyone, the show's series finale Finally confirms who the actual narrator is: an adult version of Jane's son, Mateo!
This is first teased back in the season three finale, when Xiomara is about to marry Rogelio and Alba and Jane are helping her prep for the ceremony. Alba tells her daughter how much she loves her, saying, "If your father were alive,...

Spoiler ALERTt: The story includes details about the series finale of Jane the Virgin on the CW.
After five seasons and 100 episodes, the CW’s Jane the Virgin ended its journey tonight. It has been an important show for the CW and for television — Jane gave the CW its first major award recognition when star Gina Rodriguez won a Golden Globe; it has been a rare series to feature a main character speaking exclusively a foreign language with the Spanish-speaking Alba; and it defied convention by experimenting with styles, including magical realism.
True to its telenovela roots (Jane the Virgin was loosely based on the Venezuelan telenovela Juana La Virgen), the dramedy wrapped its story with a happy ending as Jane and Raphael finally tied the knot, Petra and Jr reconciled, Esteban proposed to Darci and Rogelio’s dream of becoming a crossover star came true.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Chapter One-Hundred,” the series finale of “Jane the Virgin.”
Five years ago, the CW was dominated by surreal series centered on vampires and werewolves, demon hunters, a genetically altered soldier, and so-called homo superiors. But then came “Jane the Virgin.”
In a sea of dark, gritty dramas came a light, warmly colored broadcast take on a telenovela, punctuated by cheeky voiceover narration and on-screen text, and even the occasional slapstick comedy moments. From Jennie Snyder Urman, who had previously created “Emily Owens, MD” for the network, and starring relative newcomer Gina Rodriguez as the titular Jane, a Miami waitress who got accidentally artificially inseminated in the show’s pilot episode, the series put its network on the map with critics and as an awards contender. In a way, its success may have helped usher in additional female-centric fare such as “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,...

It might be hard to believe, but Angela Bassett has never won an Emmy before. She’s now her fifth nomination after making the Best Narrator lineup for her work on Nat Geo’s “The Flood.” If she prevails, not only will she get her first statuette, but she and husband Courtney B. Vance will join the club of Emmy-winning married couples.
Vance has a perfect record at the Emmys, converting his first nomination into a win in 2016 in Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actor for his performance as Johnnie Cochran on “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.” He gave a brief but memorable speech in which he dedicated the award to his wife of now nearly 22 years — or “the woman that rocks my chain.” #truelove

As the final episode of Jane the Virgin is upon us, the cast got super emotional at the start of their PaleyFest panel. Star and executive producer Gina Rodriguez shed some tears as she and co-star Justin Baldoni remembered when they first started the show and how they had the opportunity to share their gifts with the world. The emotional moment soon turned into a fun lovefest and moderator Leanne Aguilera from Entertainment Tonight attempting to pull spoilers for the fifth and final season the cast. Show creator Jennie Snyder Urman and the cast kept tight-lipped, but they did spill some details.
Rodriguez, Baldoni and Urman were joined on stage by Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Elias Janssen, Jaime Camil, Anthony Mendez and Brett Dier. Missing from the panel was Ivonne Coll who was working on the spinoff Jane the Novela but was certainly there in spirit. Nonetheless, no time was...

Fans of The CW's Jane the Virgin have many questions as we prepare for its upcoming final season, but the biggest one might be how this telenovela will end: will Jane (Gina Rodriguez) wind up with Rafael (Justin Baldoni), the handsome and sensitive reformed bad boy who was about to propose in the finale of last season? Or will she resuscitate her romance with Michael (Brett Dier), her recently returned husband who promised to love her the rest of his life?
Part of this anticipation is that creator Jennie Snyder Urman and her writers are particularly good at not playing favorites. She said, while speaking at the show's Television Critics Association press day on Jan. 31, that they made a point to build up one suitor or another each season as a way to bring "the audience along with us."

The Television Academy is putting its foot down on category flip-flops. Going forward, programs will be allowed to switch categories in the Emmy race just once. After that, they’re locked in — and won’t be allowed to categorize again.
That’s one of the latest changes to the Emmy competition, as the TV Academy released its formalized rules and regulations on Tuesday for this year’s competition. As TV series have become a bit more complex, it’s become harder to categorize many of them.
That’s why, a few years ago, the TV Academy clarified that half-hour shows will be automatically deemed comedies, and hour-longs as dramas, unless those shows petition to make a change. And with many hour-longs touting themselves as comedies and a rise in half-hour dramas, those requests have become commonplace.
But then there are also shows that have evolved and changed their classification over time.

It is absolutely crazy to The CW President Mark Pedowitz that “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” haven’t gotten any major Emmy love from the TV academy.

CW chief Mark Pedowitz is “disappointed” in the Television Academy for the amount of Emmy love it has given “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Jane the Virgin.”
“We know what’s going on,” Pedowitz told reporters Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We know the affection and affinity that both those shows have.”

And I’m more amazed by the fact that the Academy could not recognize ‘Crazy Ex’ for any original music, given the fact that they do original music week in and week out.
