On Halloween night, 1988, as Michael Myers lay still on the ground, his young niece touched his hand either out of curiosity, or sympathy, or some unknowable kinship. As her foster sister warned the little girl to stand back, Jamie Lloyd jumped out of the way as a firing squad blasted Michael down a mineshaft to hell. With the evil finally behind them, they returned home, only for Jamie to put on a mask and stab her foster mother in the bath. Covered in blood, the girl stood silently, breathing heavily, and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers came to an end, beginning the cycle a new, and promising a radical new direction if the series were to continue from there.

David Gordon Green's "Halloween Ends" caps what is known as the "H40" trilogy, breathing new life into the Michael Myers-centered "Halloween" franchise that has chugged along since John Carpenter's original horror film in 1978.
In the new trilogy, Myers — or The Shape, as he was referred to in Carpenter and Debra Hill's script for the o.g. "Halloween" — has returned to the town of Haddonfield with the same unquenchable bloodlust he's held across decades, fought Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode and the townspeople (all of this over the events of Green's "Halloween" and "Halloween Kills"), and now holes up underground to nurse his wounds. Green, along with co-writers Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier, brings back beloved legacy characters like Strode, who once again heads into battle with the masked psychopath who attacked her and killed her friends four decades ago. "Ends" also makes introductions...

I’m still astonished that you can own the so-called “producer’s cut” of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers on 4K Ultra HD. It was the first bootleg movie I ever purchased, courtesy of eBay, as I believed that the murky DVD-r sourced from a generations-old VHS would be the only way to ever see the alternate footage from the franchise’s 1995 sixth installment.
Scream Factory shocked fans with the producer’s cut’s first official release as part of its 2014 Blu-ray box set, Halloween: The Complete Collection. They’ve done it again with The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002) box set, which features both the theatrical and producer’s cuts newly scanned in 4K from the original camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision with DTS-hd Master Audio 5.1 and Stereo options.

We all know Michael Myers' origin story from 1978's Halloween. He kills his sister at six, breaks out of an asylum at 21, and begins a 12-movie killing spree ("Halloween III" excluded). Throughout this time, he goes in and out of psychiatric detention, dies multiple times, and then is either resurrected or rebooted.
Beyond that, there's not much else we need to know about him. He is a near-featureless killer, hell-bent on brutally murdering as many people as he can get his hands on, though he usually starts with immediate family members. This is exactly how the newest trilogy in the "Halloween franchise uses him, and according to director David Gordon Green, this was very intentional.

This article contains HAlloween Ends spoilers.
There are plenty of iconic slasher movie franchises that have become emblematic with the Halloween season. When it comes to holiday horrors, however, it’s hard to beat John Carpenter’s prototypical slasher classic, Halloween, which first introduced unsuspecting audiences to the blunt, brutal evil of Michael Myers. Michael, also known as “The Shape,” has terrified horror fans for more than 40 years, and the boogeyman has endured so long because there’s a scary simplicity to the cipher. Michael Myers is an evil force of nature and there’s something deeply unsettling about his unstoppable presence.
The Halloween franchise has experienced an inconsistent run across its first 10 films until David Gordon Green and Blumhouse were able to breathe fresh life into Michael’s stiff corpse. And their legacy sequel approach has brought Halloween back to its roots. The series’ current timeline builds upon the events of the original 1978 masterpiece.

This article contains Halloween Ends spoilers.
Evil has the same face it’s had for the past 44 years—that’s the motto of David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends. Four years after he brought the seminal slasher back to our screens for the confusingly titled Halloween (2018), the director is back to round out his trilogy with Halloween Ends. While the name suggests Michael Myers will be put in the ground for good, we know that’s not how this franchise usually goes.
Jamie Lee Curtis is once again brandishing her butcher knife as final girl Laurie Strode while also doing a great job of marketing Halloween Kills as both her and Michael’s last tango. However, with Halloween (1978) director John Carpenter telling the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “If the movie makes money, I don’t believe it’s the end,” fans are curious to know if the corn syrup will keep flowing.

Today is a big day for all you Halloween fans and stans out there. Blumhouse’s Halloween was that all too rare example of a horror reboot that fared well with fans and critics alike, raising the question of whether the studio intends to resurrect any other popular slasher properties. And while Jason Blum himself has previously expressed an interest in making another Scream movie, producer Ryan Turek is more set on bringing back Friday the 13th.
For much of this past year, the Jason Voorhees-led franchise has been the subject of a messy legal dispute, but should the conflict clear up, Turek has made it clear in an interview with ComicBook.com that he’d jump at the chance to take on the series.
“Without question, at the top of my list would be Friday the 13th,” Turek said. “Friday the 13th would be the franchise that I would love to work on next. Jason Blum shares that same passion. That is something that is unfortunately complicated.

Despite a pretty definitive ending for The Shape in 1981’s Halloween II, which saw Michael Myers burning to a crisp in its final moments, the iconic killer managed to return by the end of the decade, just in time to ride the final wave of social interest in slasher films. Though Halloween III: Season of the Witch had attempted to move the Halloween franchise away from its reliance on Michael, the chilly reception it received upon its release in 1982 meant that the series as a whole was put on ice, with both John Carpenter and Debra Hill – the two responsible for its existence in the first place – giving up their interest in it in the years that followed, allowing for the cinematic resurrection of Michael in 1988’s aptly-named Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.

When it comes to slasher movies, the gold standard is undoubtedly John Carpenter’s Halloween, something other legends and veterans in the scary movie industry openly attest to. Back in 1978, no one could predict that an independent film about a masked serial killer going after babysitters on All Hallow’s Eve would thrust itself into the proverbial stratosphere the way Halloween did and continues to with endless sequels, remakes, comic books, action figures, countless conventions and so on. It’s the franchise that keeps giving. So what better way to celebrate its 40th anniversary than for someone like independent auteur David Gordon Green (from the likes of George Washington and All the Real Girls to Pineapple Express and Stronger) to make a sequel that has some bold ideas about what direction thing should have gone in the first place? It’s a gamble that worked as he’s paid homage...

There are plenty of horror series out there that span numerous films, but there’s something special about the simplicity of the Halloween movies. Michael Myers is a force of nature, and there’s something deeply unsettling about his unstoppable presence. The franchise has seen a rocky reputation build throughout its previous 10 films, but David Gordon Green’s imminent reboot/sequel is taking another go at the series.

When it was released in October of 1988, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers reinvigorated a struggling franchise whose fanbase was clamoring for more of Haddonfield’s most infamous resident. It was up to director Dwight H. Little to resurrect the horror icon a decade after he first terrorized Laurie Strode, and this time, Michael Myers had his sights set on Laurie’s daughter, Jamie Lloyd, played by the precocious Danielle Harris.
When first approached to direct Halloween 4, Little was still an up-and-coming filmmaker with only a handful of feature film credits to his name. Dwight was excited by the prospect of getting to work on a Halloween movie, but had some initial reservations about the project after his first meeting with producer Moustapha Akkad.
“I think Moustapha had seen part of a recent film that I had done, so they called me to come in for an interview,” explained Little.

When it comes to iconic scream queens to have appeared in the Halloween film franchise, the first actress to spring to mind will probably be that of Jamie Lee Curtis – and deservedly so. But when it comes to those of us who are more acquainted with the series, there’s another fine talent that none of us can overlook, that being Danielle Harris.
Having originally played the character of Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4 and 5, she later returned to the franchise when director Rob Zombie rebooted it. That time, though, she played Annie Brackett. All things considered, life turned out well for someone who was a final girl at such a young age.

Currently out promoting Inoperable, Danielle Harris has now offered more thoughts on Jamie Llyod being left out in the cold, and why she’s still hopeful that her fan-favorite will make a return in the not-so-distant future – you know, providing Green’s revival isn’t remember as the final Halloween.
Here’s what the actress had to say to Birth.Movies.Death:

You may know her as Jamie Lloyd or Annie Brackett from the Halloween franchise, but right now actress and filmmaker Danielle Harris is providing viewers with another enthralling performance with her role as Amy Barrett in Christopher Lawrence Chapman's new film, Inoperable. A mind-bending experience that blends psychological Twilight Zone-esque scares with gory hospital horror, Inoperable is out now in select theaters from Zorya Films and Millman Productions, and Daily Dead recently had the great pleasure of speaking with Harris about her unique new role and the ambitious approach to filming Inoperable, and she also shared her hopes for the future of the Halloween franchise.
Hi Danielle, and congratulations on Inoperable. It feels like a mix of Groundhog Day and The Twilight Zone, but it still has its own personality. Watching it for the first time was such a mind-bending experience, so what was it like when you...

Turns out Danielle Harris isn’t a big fan of David Gordan Green’s forthcoming Halloween reboot.
Dubbed a total reinvention of the classic horror series, the director has already welcomed the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Judy Greer (and Zac Efron, too?), as Green gears up for Laurie Strode’s final confrontation with Michael Myers.
But after four films in the Halloween franchise, Harris admits that the decision to double down on John Carpenter’s 1978 original, thereby ignoring all the sequels that followed, left her feeling “bummed out,” as it essentially rules out a return for either Jamie Lloyd or Annie Brackett.
I’m bummed out. And here’s why I’m bummed out. I’ve done four Halloween movies, and I’m grateful for those movies. I wouldn’t have all of you guys here… if it wasn’t for Halloween. I’m forever grateful and indebted to the Halloween franchise.

We found out last month that Jamie Lee Curtis will be returning to the Halloween franchise as Laurie Strode, but she may not be the only member of the Strode family making an appearance, as it's being reported that Judy Greer is in talks to play Laurie's daughter in the film, but those who are hoping for the return of Jamie Lloyd are in for a surprise...
Deadline reports that Greer (pictured above on the left) is in "negotiations" to portray "Karen Strode, the daughter of Laurie." No other details on her character are known at this time, but we'll keep you updated as more information is revealed.
Following the events of Halloween and Halloween II, Laurie Strode had a daughter named Jamie Lloyd who was pursued by Michael Myers through three films. Jamie was played by Danielle Harris in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers,...

All over the world, Game of Thrones viewers are speculating fiercely over the fate of Kit Harington's Jon Snow in season six of the HBO series, which began airing Sunday. Meanwhile, in London's West End, those watching Harington play the title role onstage in Doctor Faustus can feel reassured that, however much prolific director Jamie Lloyd and playwright Colin Teevan may have tinkered with Christopher Marlowe's 16th-century text, at least one thing is certain: Faustus is going to hell. But even if the last act can't be spoiled, there are still some pleasant surprises to be had from this lively,

Did you know that Orson Welles wrote a screenplay for Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness in 1939?
Welles not only wanted to to direct, but wanted to star as both Marlow and Kurtz. The screenplay was that bit too much for Rko Studios who shelved the project.
The story of course was used as the basis of Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now, which shifted the action to the Vietnam War and starred Martin Sheen as Marlow (renamed Willard) and Marlon Brando as Kurtz.
Welles's screenplay has been adapted into a radio play, with the action returning to the original 1890s setting.
It stars James McAvoy as Marlow, who reunites with his Macbeth theatre director Jamie Lloyd on the project.
Unmade Movies: Orson Welles' Heart of Darkness gets its first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on October 24.
The screenplay has been written by Lloyd with producer Laurence Bowen, with music by Ben and Max Ringham.

Starry Eyes
A blood-soaked cautionary tale about the price of fame and sacrificing your own identity in the name of ambition, Starry Eyes is yet another fantastic reminder that the indie genre world is truly the best (and generally only) place fans can find ambitious and challenging horror tales these days. Anchored by a breakout performance by Alex Essoe, Starry Eyes is by far one of the more captivating and unforgettable horror movies I’ve seen this year and I cannot recommend it enough.
Snowpiercer
For Snowpiercer, Bong Joon-ho ventures into the sci-fi realm resulting in an experience that’s relentless, exhilarating, emotionally devastating and wholly unlike anything else released this year. A masterful blending of genres coupled with timeless political allegories, a hint of social satire and a star-studded cast who all deliver tour de force performances. Given that Assassins is all about men and women who feel backed into corners of noisy desperation, the studio-sized, in-the-round space of London's Menier Chocolate Factory makes the perfect claustrophobic setting for this exceptionally well-executed, inventive presentation of the Stephen Sondheim musical. Broadway actor Aaron Tveit has said that he would love to star in a future Wicked movie.
The Les Misérables actor played the character of Fiyero on Broadway in 2008, and told Digital Spy that he thinks the musical will translate well as a movie.

“Look, the boogeyman can only come out on Halloween night, right?”
Sorry, Laurie, but this year Halloween came early. On September 23rd, horror fans near and far—myself included—rejoiced when Shout Factory / Scream Factory released a 10-disc (or 15-disc if you threw down the extra cash for the Deluxe Edition) Blu-ray box set containing every film in the Halloween franchise along with a wide array of bonus features. It’s time to lock your doors and hold on tight as I guide you through the night he came home… with me.
Before digging into the discs themselves, it is impossible not to acknowledge the beauty of the box that houses the discs. On one side, there is the classic jack-o-lantern which has become iconic to the Halloween franchise.
What is really worth noting is the Michael Myers artwork on the two opposite sides of the box.

The long wait for Halloween fans is almost over- Scream Factory and Anchor Bay’s stunning box set, Halloween: The Complete Collection, finally arrives tomorrow and I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity recently to immerse myself in all things Michael Myers in order to take a look at what they put together for their definitive Deluxe Edition Blu-ray set.
While I believe that The Complete Collection is absolutely a worthy addition to any fan’s home entertainment library, I know that there are some concerns out there from Halloween fans that buying the pricey set means they are forced to re-buy several of the franchise’s titles once again (especially considering most of the Halloween films already celebrated their individual releases in high-def over the last two years). That sentiment is true to a certain degree but, as a fan, I couldn’t imagine not picking...

The West End musical of Back To The Future won't be on stage in time for the film's 30th anniversary...
Well, it looks like we won't be celebrating next year's 30th birthday of Back To The Future with a West End musical after all. The plan had been that a stage show, with the full involvement of Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale (who co-wrote the film, with the former directing), would open in 2015. But behind the scenes delays have put the show back until 2016 at least now.
Furthermore, the production is now seeking a new director as well. Jamie Lloyd had been developing the Back To The Future musical, but news broke at the end of last week that he'd departed the project. "Creative differences" have been cited, although the parting of the ways is said to be "amicable".

Richard III feat. Martin Freeman is a vigorous, brutal, and accessible retelling of Shakespeare’s tale of political villainy…
The world loves a bastard. Will it, though, love one whose legendary wickedness is played for laughs and not venom? Martin Freeman’s taut performance as Richard III in a new Trafalgar Studios production wrings cruel humour from the play’s every pun and pause. Freeman jerks his head, and the audience laughs. He raises his eyebrows, and we laugh. He commits murder, shrugs it off, and we laugh. Who knew fifteenth century crown politics could be such a riot?
Jamie Lloyd’s play sets Shakespeare’s lurid account of Richard III’s rapid ascent to “the supreme seat” against the backdrop of the 1979 English winter of discontent. The idea, apt pun aside, is to evoke political instability and bring to mind the behind-the-scenes machinations that unseat power.
