A new trailer was released for Christophe Deroo's Sam Was Here. The clip shows Sam (Rusty Joiner) alone in the desert. Accused of murder, he struggles with his new, violent reality. The film also stars: Sigrid La Chapelle and Rhoda Pell. Slated for a release in France, Sam Was Here will also release in the United States, sometime in 2017. All of the details for the film, including the trailer, are hosted here. A long synopsis, from the director, talks of a lonely door-to-door salesman. Sam wanders the Californian desert in search of clients. But, there is no one around. A local radio station talks of a child killer. When locals begin to attack Sam, he soon realizes that everyone believes that he is the killer! Much of Sam Was Here was filmed in various California locations. The film was shot in El Mirage and Palmdale, also at the Agua Dulce Movie Ranch.

The theme for this year’s Melbourne Underground Film Festival is “Evolve Or Die,” so thank God that after 15 years, the fest has decided to evolve rather than kick the proverbial bucket.
What does “evolution” look like for Muff? For starters, this year is a much more stripped down festival. It runs Sept. 12 – 19 at a single location — The Backlot Studios.
Muff usually features a healthy retrospective section, but they decided to spin that off into a separate event that will run in a month or two. Instead, Muff 15 is all about new cinema, with an even stronger focus on Down Under cinema.
Opening Night: Start Options Exit was originally conceived by local co-directors Chris Mitchell and Yoav Lester as a web series, but was subsequently edited together as this outrageous comedy about a pair of degenerates stumbling through the seedy underbelly of Melbourne.
Closing Night: Acclaimed Melbourne cult filmmaker Stuart Simpson...

The features that make their premiere at Fantastic Fest tend to get much of the attention, but don’t forget that you’re likely to see some great short films at the event as well. Fantastic Fest is known for their extensive short film selection and this year is no different:
“Fantastic Fest is excited to announce the short film lineup for the ninth edition of Fantastic Fest, happening September 19th- 26th in Austin, Texas at Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline. Short films provide an outlet for filmmakers to showcase their genre talents in a format with fewer restraints, making them a Fantastic Fest favorite. Fantastic Fest is wildly excited that longtime festival comrade Kier-la Janisse is now our lead shorts programmer. Kier-la created the notorious CineMuerte Film Festival in Canada, and was the first full-time film programmer for the Alamo back in the “wild west” days. She has since gone on...
