Australia’s premier genre film festival, Monster Fest returns for its seventh year this November 23rd to 26th at Melbourne’s Lido Cinemas with a mix of World, Australian & Victorian Premieres! The 2017 chapter of Monster Fest, takes on a very Australian flavour – the first wave announcement includes not one, but Six(!) brand new Australian feature films, most of which will be enjoying their World Premieres at the festival.
Opening the festival is one of 2018’s most anticipated new horror flicks, Christopher Sun’s creature-feature, Boar. Now we’re huge fans of Sun here at Nerdly, especially his films Daddy’s Little Girl (a film that should have got the plaudits the more recent Hounds of Love received) and Charlie’s Farm. Sun is not the only filmmaker returning with a new film at this years Monster Fest, joining him are Daniel Armstrong (Murderdrome) with his film Tarnation; and Nerdly favourites...

Forced into a ‘dare to be great’ situation that neither are prepared for, the two Bff’s must fight their way past cops, city officials and cybernetic dog butchers in order to destroy the evil SheBorg and save the planet!

Aussie production company Strongman Pictures Entertainment is proudly gearing up for the imminent release of a movie that has been almost a decade in the making: Daniel Armstrong's From Parts Unknown: Fight Like a Girl. The story behind this wrestling/zombie mashup began way back in 2006, when the film started a 42-day shoot that ended up spanning over six months. A true guerrilla effort, Fpu was filmed with no director of photography, no editor, no sound designer, and no access to post-production facilities, all on a budget of less than $5,000. These and other difficulties led to an interminable seven years of post-production, and once the resources ran out, the film had to be shelved indefinitely.Shortly after this, Armstrong scored a cult hit with MurderDrome, the...

It’s hard to believe that Australia once had a reputation for producing some top-notch exploitation flicks. In recent years the country has become more synonymous with soap operas that fear flicks, but recently there has been a resurgence in genre flicks from down under, from a growing “army” of independent filmmakers that are simply getting out there and making brand-new exploitation and horror movies. Murderdrome is one such movie.
Take one part Whip It and one part Gutterballs and you have Murderdrome, a fantastic rock ‘n’ roll-er derby horror from down under that tells the story of Cherry Skye, a roller derby sensation, who loves nothing better than competing in her favorite sport. Of...

Wrestling women battling mad scientists and supernatural forces is nothing new to the lucha libre ladies of Mexican cinema. For Australia’s female grapplers, this is probably new territory.
That might be why it has taken From Parts Unknown: Fight Like a Girl six years to finally get from the squared circle to the rectangular screen.
A press release landed in our inbox touting the trailer for From Parts Unknown: Fight Like a Girl, an Aussie indie action horror flick that began production back in 2007 and is only now unveiling its trailer as it prepares for a rather belated release sometime in 2013. Here are the details:
After six long years, and many setbacks, Melbourne-based independent film producer Strongman Pictures Entertainment has announced the release of the first trailer for beleaguered independent wrestling-action-horror film From Parts Unknown: Fight Like A Girl.

Badass dames on roller skates? Malevolent supernatural forces? Roller Derby? Sounds like a winner to me. Director Daniel Armstrong’s upcoming web series “MurderDrome” looks like a violent good time to me, thanks in part to those aforementioned elements and the rockabilly-infused soundtrack. And while I’m generally not a fan of the web series format, I think I can overcome my prejudice to investigate this title when Armstrong and company finally start unleashing episodes. Check out the official synopsis: Like any good Roller Derby player Cherry Skye wears her undies on the outside and her panties on her head. It’s no wonder she’s caught the eye of spunky Brad Blunt. Unfortunately she’s also earned the ire of Brad’s ex, Hell Grazer, a girl born to win and ready to skate over anything in her path to get what she wants. When romantic rivalries flare, the...

Strongman Pictures Entertainment today announced that principal photography for the Roller Derby, supernatural horror slasher, MurderDrome, began today in Melbourne. Granted a Roller Derby isn’t exactly the first venue that comes to mind to conjure up images of Love, death and splatter filled revenge - but director Daniel Armstrong promises the Murderdrome will “follow the perils of a team of Roller Derby players hunted by the demon ghost of a vengeful murderess... and it’s all on skates." A tough sell maybe, until you consider Freddie Kruger or Leatherface have got nothing on the horror front, compared to a (eeeaaasy ladies) woman scorned. MurderDrome is expected to go into post production in October this year and be released as a 5 part web series, distributed entirely free online via Strongman’s YouTube channel. Subscribe now to catch every episode and while we wait check out all the charactera over on the films Facebook page.

Principle photography has begun in Melbourne, Australia for the supernatural slasher, Murderdome, directed by Daniel Armstrong. The Roller Derby slasher, I like the sound of that, has two new stills from Arrow and a plot synopsis:
Like any good Roller Derby player Cherry Skye wears her undies on the outside and her panties on her head. It’s no wonder she’s caught the eye of spunky Brad Brad. Unfortunately she’s also earned the ire of Brad’s ex, Hell Grazer, a girl born to win and ready to skate over anything in her path to get what she wants.
When romantic rivalries flare up the conflict rolls onto the streets and awakens the malevolent demon-spirit of a murderess. Suddenly Skye is sprinting towards the MurderDrome at breakneck speed, pursued by supernatural evil and the wrath of a lover scorned.
Welcome to The MurderDrome. It’s not a game anymore…...

Australian filmmaker and friend of the site Daniel Armstrong sent over the trailer for his latest short film, Snake Eyes - the latest work produced under his Strongman Pictures banner. In the works for several years, the low-budget Australian horror/fantasy Damned By Dawn has finally emerged from the depths of postproduction to begin making appearances at genre film festivals across the world. The U.S. premiere took place at Screamfest this past Monday, with more no doubt soon to follow; keep an eye on the movie’s official website for updates.
Presented by The Amazing Krypto Brothers in Kryptovision, Damned By Dawn takes a traditional and serious approach to its horror, melding traditional supernatural tropes with present-day concerns. Announcing its intent with a quote about mournfully wailing a song of death, with a senior female voice intoning, “The line between reality and legend is thin,” Damned By Dawn then gets down to the business of putting a family in an isolated farmhouse under siege by a banshee and a small army of maniacal, scythe-wielding, flying skeletons. It seems that...

What the hell is From Parts Unknown? It’s an indie film from Australia we first told you about back in March and haven’t mentioned since. Don’t you keep up on anything? Sheesh.
All right, first some plot: Charlie's dreams of becoming a professional wrestler are frustrated by complications with her boyfriend, the unsolicited romantic affections of one of her co-workers, a dictatorial boss who runs the company like a Russian Stalag, and the impending end of the world brought about by a video game based on some very nifty, but ultimately unstable, ex-military technology.
Whoa, okay ... sure ... Anyway, it came down via Digital Retribution today that there’s a Vimeo page for From Parts Unknown director Daniel Armstrong which is home to not one, not two, but five clips from the film. They’re actually show reels that were made for the actors mainly, but such things...

Arrowinthehead has been all over a new indie film by Daniel Armstrong entitled From Parts Unknown, which looks pretty damn cool. Starring Australian Idol finalist and all around hottie Jenna Dwyer, From Parts Unknown revolves around Charlie, a female wrestler who just wants to get on with her life but finds herself embroiled in an epic battle to save the world. If you click the link above you check out the first pics from the movie, which co-stars Ross Ditcham, Josh Futcher, Elke Osadnik, Sarah Howett, and Mick Preston.
