New Delhi, May 29 (Ians) Australia wicket-keeper Alex Carey has said he maintains a close relationship with a host of former keepers and revealed he has spoken to some of those predecessors about what he can expect through the World Test Championship (Wtc) Final and the Ashes series.
Former Australian keeper Adam Gilchrist presented Carey with his Baggy Green when he made his Test debut against England in Brisbane during the Ashes series in 2021.
The left-hander said the Australia great is among a small, but select, group of former keepers he still remains in contact with.
“Adam Gilchrist presented my Baggy Green and is a guy I obviously looked up to when I was a youngster,” Carey told Icc.
He further said adding that he enjoys hearing regularly from the tight-knit group of Australian wicket-keepers.
“Brad Haddin was part of the one-day World Cup, I have done some work with Ian Healy,...

Mohali, May 4 (Ians) Though Punjab Kings ended up on the losing side against Mumbai Indians, uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma enhanced his big-hitting credentials in the fag-end of the innings to be unbeaten on 49 off 27 balls, smashing five fours and two sixes.
Despite the defeat as Mumbai chased down 215 with ridiculous ease and seven balls to spare, Punjab’s assistant coach Brad Haddin heaped praise on Jitesh’s counter-attacking knock.
“The one thing which we found with Jitesh is that — obviously he’s building really well and starting to mature into his game. But he’s one of those players got a unique ability to go from ball one.”
“I don’t know if he’s got the guts because he’s got his keeping to fall back on and you get that freedom to play. But his ability to go from ball one was something that we wanted to use higher in the order,...

Mohali, April 14 (Ians) Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin admitted his team were 20-30 runs short with the bat, and added that some batters could have been more proactive when they were out in the middle.
At the end of the Power-play, Punjab were cruising at 52/2. But Gujarat’s bowlers, led by Mohit Sharma’s 2-18, gave away only 42 runs in the middle overs and picked four wickets in the last five overs to keep Punjab to a below-par 153/8. Moreover, Punjab’s batters played 56 dot balls collectively as they crashed to a six-wicket defeat at home.
“It was in our batting, we probably left 20-30 runs out there. In the end, that’s probably the difference in the result. Last game, I thought Hyderabad bowled well. This time it was our fault with the bat not capitalising on a few guys that got in, be a little more proactive to find those 20-30 runs,...

New Delhi, Jan 26 (Ians) Mark Waugh, Mitchell Johnson and Aaron Finch will be the replacements for Michael Clarke for commentary during Australia’s upcoming tour of India.
A report in The Sydney Morning Herald says Clarke, the 2015 Odi World Cup winning captain of Australia, was passed over by the Bcci following a video of his altercation with his girlfriend going viral on social media.
The report adds that Waugh is set to accompany Matthew Hayden as the Australian commentators for the first two Tests of the series, to be played for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Nagpur (February 9-13) and New Delhi (February 17-21).
Johnson will then take over from Waugh for the third and fourth Tests of the series in Dharamshala (March 1-5) and Ahmedabad (March 9-13). For the three ODIs that follow after the four-match Test series, Johnson will be joined by Finch, who recently retired from ODIs.

Melbourne, Dec 28 (Ians) Left-handed batter Alex Carey on Wednesday scripted history as he became the second Australian wicket-keeper after legendary Rod Marsh to score a Test century at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG), on the third day of the second Test against South Africa, here.
Carey celebrated a brisk maiden Test hundred (111) in typically understated fashion. He carved a wide ball through the off-side with only an ear-to-ear grin giving away the fact he had just reached the rare milestone.
Infact, his batting partner Cameron Green showed even more elation, raising both arms as he ran from the other end before exchanging an embrace with Carey. The 31-year-old, who took 131 balls to bring up his century, was, however, visibly emotional after his achievement.
“As is Alex Carey’s way, there was a real humility in the way that he celebrated that,” his former Test coach Justin Langer told Channel Seven.

Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Ahead of their first Super 12 match in Icc Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand here on Saturday, Australia have announced all-rounder Cameron Green as a replacement for injured Josh Inglis in their 15-man squad, with the approval of the Event Technical Committee.
Inglis, the wicketkeeper-batter who has played nine T20Is for Australia and was seen as a backup to the main keeper Matthew Wade, suffered a freak injury while playing golf in Sydney on Wednesday. He sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through, resulting in surgery being needed for the same and requiring stitches.
Green, who has seven T20I appearances, hit two half-centuries for Australia when filling in for veteran opener David Warner at the top of the order during their bilateral T20I series against India in September. Australia may...

Melbourne, Dec 29 (Ians) Prophets of doom -- including former captain Ricky Ponting of Australia and England's Michael Vaughan, and Aussie Mark Waugh, who all have predicted India's 0-4 mauling by Australia in Tests -- are already beating a hasty retreat, after the visitors made a grand comeback in the second Test on Tuesday and level the four-match series 1-1. And, now, a gung-ho India are eager to rub salt to Australia's injury.
By winning the second Test by eight wickets here, India drew parity, after losing the first one by a similar margin in Adelaide. Captain Virat Kohli has returned home after the first Test to be with his wife who is expecting their first child while Ajinkya Rahane is captaining it in the last three matches.

Melbourne, Dec 28 (Ians) An injury to regular Australia opener David Warner and lack of in-form genuine openers pitch-forked Matthew Wade, a specialist wicket-keeper, into an opener's slot for the ongoing Test series against India -- with mixed results. In three innings against India, Wade has managed a grand total of 111 runs in four innings of the two Tests.
Wade, 33, is surely a temporary arrangement and once Warner gets match fit he would walk into the XI, replacing him.
Australia have been playing Wade as a specialist middle order batsman while Tim Paine, who is now captain as well, keeping wickets.
Wade also opened the innings in the recent T20 series against India, and captained Australia in a game in Aaron Finch's absence.
There are probably not many examples in Test cricket of a country fielding two wicket-keepers -- one behind the wickets and one as a specialist batsman. But...
