Ross’ three-year contract is up this year and I hear she opted not to renew it and plans to return to content creation. I hear Ross, a well-liked executive, is already pursuing other opportunities but will remain at Fox in a consulting capacity for the transition, likely through the end of the season. Fox wouldn’t comment on the reasons for Ross’ exit but I hear she and top network brass have had differences. While current departments have become an endangered species as more and more broadcast nets fold those programming efforts into their development units, Fox is bucking the trend with two promotions and a hire.
Shana C. Waterman and James Oh have been upped to vp current programming, while David Sleven has moved from comedy development, where he was a manager, to current, where he'll serve as a director.
All three report to Marcy Ross, exec vp current programming.
In making the announcement, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly stressed the importance of "investing in top-notch talent" to keep the network's series strong and praised Fox's current department for being responsible in part for Fox's first fall season ratings win.
