Leslye Headland first started working on The Acolyte in 2019 and, with the first four episodes of the series now on Disney+...well, it probably hasn't gone as the showrunner hoped.
While taking charge of her own Star Wars project remains a dream come true for Headland, unhappy fans have turned it into a nightmare with a large influx of negative reviews (which some have argued could be a sign of review-bombing). Then, there are the nitpicks about minor creative decisions which are being turned into very big deals.
Despite that, critic reviews and viewership numbers suggest The Acolyte is a success.
Its supposed LGBTQ+ themes have been an issue for some, as has the fact Headland is gay. The show's lead, Amandla Stenberg, is nonbinary and gay, while Yord Fandar actor Charlie Barnett is also gay. Finally, Rebecca Henderson, who plays Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh, is married to Headland.

Now that the fourth episode of The Acolyte is streaming on Disney+, Lucasfilm has released a second batch of character posters, this time spotlighting Mae's twin Osha (Amandla Stenberg) and a group of highly enigmatic supporting players.
Each banner is accompanied by a profile of each character, and while they make for interesting reading, you won't find any hints about the true identity of the mysterious "Master." Even so, there's a very good chance one of these individuals will ultimately be unmasked as the Dark-side warrior who made his presence felt in the closing moment of this week's episode.
Right now, the most popular theory points to Manny Jacinto's former smuggler Qimir, who appears to know a bit too much about Mae's mission and the Master's orders. This would seem a little too obvious, however, and could turn out to be a red herring.
Check out the new posters at the links below,...

The Acolyte aims to stand apart from the rest of the Star Wars universe by setting its timeline a century before the prequel trilogy while spotlighting new characters and unexplored narratives. However, that doesn’t mean it is devoid of intriguing connections… When we first got wind of The Acolyte, it was clear that it would primarily showcase fresh faces. We were informed that Rebecca Henderson’s Vernestra Rwoh from the High Republic novels was set to feature in the show, but apart from her, no other known characters were revealed—or so we thought. While there are those who believe The Acolyte is being "review-bombed," the huge surge of negative verdicts means it now has an Audience Score (14%) on Rotten Tomatoes which is worse than even the hilariously bad Star Wars Holiday Special.
Seeing as the show has an 84% score from critics, there's clearly a stark contrast between how critics and fans have responded to the series. However, newly revealed viewership data from Variety (via SFFGazette.com) may paint a very different picture when it comes to whether The Acolyte can be considered a success.
In a Top 10 list which measures the minutes watched by every streaming original TV show between June 7 - June 13, Netflix dominates with 9 titles.
The likely reason for that is the streamer's tendency to release entire seasons at a time; however, even with only two episodes of The Acolyte available on Disney+, it still managed to reach the #6 spot.

There have always been toxic elements to every fandom, but over the past few years, we have seen an increase in targetted online abuse, with many "fans" taking their criticism way too far by spewing bile at the people involved with the movies and TV shows they claim to love.
Star Wars has been hit particularly hard, with the perception that Disney is pushing a "woke agenda" by shifting focus to Black, female, and LGBTQ+ characters in their projects leading to some shockingly hateful backlash.
As a gay Black woman, The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg has found herself in the firing line since before the show even aired, but the harassment escalated when an out-of-context clip of the actress saying "white people crying was the goal" on a 2018 talk show did the rounds last week.
Now, Stenberg has released a new music video in response.

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 4.
We’re halfway through Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte, and while episode 4 “Day” put us on the brink of war as Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae ) faced off against the mystery Sith master, fans think they’ve clocked the show’s big reveal. The focus of The Acolyte, created and run by Leslye Headland, has been the duality of twin sisters Mae and Osha (both played by Amandla Stenberg), however, there’s an altogether bigger mystery about who’s pulling the strings behind Mae’s Jedi hit list.
Unless The Acolyte pulls a Solo: A Star Wars Story to introduce some random character under the mask of the fan-nicknamed Sith “Darth Teeth,” the series has almost certainly already introduced us to Mae’s master. Wild theories range from Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) to Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva), Yord (Charlie Barnett...

In this week's fourth episode of The Acolyte, titled "Day," Mae has a change of heart after learning her twin sister is alive and decides to abandon her mission and tell the Jedi what she knows about The Master.
However, upon arriving in Kelnacca's hut, she discovers that the Wookie Jedi is already dead, somehow murdered by the mysterious Sith villain mere moments before she got there. As Mae and the Jedi approach, The Master floats down from above - Count Dooku-style - and tosses Mae aside before flinging the heroes into the distance.
It's a massive cliffhanger and all signs point to the fifth episode pitting the downed Jedi against the red lightsaber-wielding baddie.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com), The Acolyte's showrunner, Leslye Headland, said, "I find him to be very scary. I think that because this is a show about the bad guys, he is incredibly powerful,...

This article was originally published on SFFGazette.com. Head there now for more on Star Wars and The Acolyte.
While it's been confirmed that Plo Koon isn't in The Acolyte, yesterday evening's episode did feature the surprise return of Ki-Adi-Mundi.
Silas Carson portrayed the Jedi Master in George Lucas' prequels, but Derek Arnold - an English puppeteer and actor who worked as a creature and droid performer on several recent Star Wars projects - takes over the role in this series.
It's a fun cameo for longtime Star Wars fans, but also one which has also upset a lot of people. The main argument is that The Acolyte is playing fast and loose with both the hero's lifespan and history.
The only problem with that argument is, the second Disney acquired Lucasfilm, all that Expanded Universe/Legends material was rendered non-canon. As a result, The Acolyte marks Ki-Adi-Mundi's "first" official...

One of the more exciting aspects of The Acolyte for many Star Wars fans was the news that the Disney+ series would introduce a Wookiee Jedi in the form of Master Kelnacca, played by Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo (who stepped in to replace Peter Mayhew for the sequel trilogy).
Though the character only made a couple of brief appearances in the first three episodes, the closing moments of last week's instalment indicated that we'd be spending a little more time with the solitary Jedi in self-imposed exile on the jungle planet of Khofar.
As it turns out, Kelnacca's only real function in episode 4 was to die... off-screen!
Though he may still feature in flashbacks, a lot of fans viewed this as a disappointing exit for the character, and it sounds like Suotamo may feel the same.
The actor was asked if showrunner Leslye Headland told him his character would be...

“Star Wars” is offering up one of the best mysteries it has in quite some while on “The Acolyte.” Who is the Sith Lord who calls himself just The Master and wears a ferocious mask studded with menacing teeth?
This is a franchise that loves a big reveal, after all. And it seems that all signs are pointing in one direction after Episode 4, titled “Day.” The clues to the Sith Lord’s identity abound, and all signs point to Manny Jacinto’s Qimir, a smuggler, fence, and fixer of sorts who’s been aiding acolyte Mae (Amandla Stenberg) with insights into what The Master wants. In previous episodes he gave her the poison that killed Master Torbin, and he’s generally just been “there,” dropping nuggets about The Master, such as that he “likes to collect people.”

Mae (played by Amandla Stenberg) didn’t know her sister Osha (also Stenberg) was alive before their confrontation on Olega. The shock of that lingered in Tuesday’s episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte as she set out to kill her next target: Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo), who found sanctuary on Khofar, a forest retreat in the Outer Rim.
The hour revealed that Qimir (Manny Jacinto) served the same master who, according to him, liked to collect people. Having been to the remote planet before, the skilled smuggler served as Mae’s guide. But Mae was not so sure about the mission,...

You may have seen this little fella in Funko Pop form already, but thanks to some new promo stills for tonight's fourth episode of The Acolyte, we have a first official look at Bazil, the Tynnan tracker who will help our heroes on a very important mission.
We're not going to go into too much detail about the episode, but if you'd rather know as little as possible before watching, here's your spoiler warning.
In an attempt to reach Mae's next target before she does, Master Sol, Osha and the others travel to the planet of Khofar, where they enlist Bazil to find Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca's home deep in the jungle. Unfortunately, Mae has already arrived, and she's not alone.
Tynnans were actually introduced in the 1979 novel Han Solo’s Revenge by Brian Daley, but creature & droid FX creative supervisor Neal Scanlan and his team incorporated elements of...

In the divisive third episode of The Acolyte, we learned more about the childhoods of Force-sensitive twin girls Mae and Osha. The former has since fallen to the Dark Side and serves "The Master," while the latter trained as a Jedi before leaving the Order.
While "Destiny" filled in a lot of gaps (and raised some intriguing questions), the biggest talking point was the introduction of a coven of witches on Brendok. Gifted with the ability to use the Force, we learned that Mother Aniseya had given birth to Mae and Osha after her partner, Mother Koril, created the girls...likely in the same way Anakin Skywalker was conceived without a father.
Much was said about the "Power of Two" in The Acolyte, with the prevailing theory being that the twins are a Force Dyad similar to Rey and Kylo Ren.
Talking to StarWars.com (via SFFGazette.com), Jodie Turner-Smith...

As we write this, The Acolyte is "Certified Fresh" at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, that percentage is based on verdicts from critics, not fans. The two numbers frequently differ, but 16% is a surprisingly low score for a series which seems to have been generally well-received.
There's been a fair bit of review-bombing on the review aggregator, Google, and IMDb, and the prevailing opinion is that it's in response to The Acolyte's diverse, primarily female-led cast.
Some legitimately don't like the series, as is their right, but the most obvious sign that most of the reviews aren't the real deal has been exposed by some dim-witted Star Wars "fans."

The third episode of The Acolyte is now streaming on Disney+, and it takes us back 16 years into the past to reveal what led to Force-sensitive sisters Osha and Mae falling out, and why the former believed the latter to be dead.
Spoilers ahead.
In "Destiny," we learn that the twins lived as part of a coven of Force-sensitive witches on the planet Brendok. A group of Jedi interrupt an ascension ceremony for the sisters being led by one of their mothers, Aniseya, in an attempt to recruit the children to the Jedi order.
Osha wants to be a Jedi, but Mae implores her sibling to stay with their coven, causing a rift that ultimately leads to the latter setting a fire which (seemingly) results in the deaths of everyone in the coven.
There's definitely more to this story (let's just say there's a reason Mae wants a certain group...

[This story contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte‘s third episode, “Destiny.”]
As soon as Star Wars: The Acolyte stars Jodie Turner-Smith and Rebecca Henderson stepped foot onto their South East England-based set, they immediately fell under the spell of a galaxy far, far away. Turner-Smith first visited the stage on a day where she wasn’t working, simply because she couldn’t pass up the chance to witness a particularly fateful duel.
“I actually went to visit set during the scene where Amandla Stenberg’s character fights Carrie-Anne Moss’ character, and I really was just like, ‘Oh my God, this is Star Wars,’” Turner-Smith tells The Hollywood Reporter. “That was definitely my first ‘whoa,’ and I wasn’t even in costume yet.”
Despite being new to Star Wars, Turner-Smith found herself in familiar territory, as her frequent collaborator, Kogonada, directed her in the third and seventh episodes of the Leslye Headland-created mystery-thriller series.

Leslye Headland created The Acolyte a series set during the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe. It follows the story of two twins who get embroiled in a mysterious plot to assassinate a group of Jedi. Since the series takes place roughly a hundred years before the prequel trilogy, fans have been wondering about what characters will feature in it.

During an interview, Headland was asked whether the series would feature a certain green Jedi Master. However, Headland gave a very clear and definitive answer about the possibility of Master Yoda appearing in the series. At the same time, Headland also shed some light on some of the newer Jedi characters introduced to the franchise in The Acolyte.

London and New York-based film sales agency The Mise En Scene Company (Msc) has diversified, securing world rights to scripted series “Driven.”
The show stars Rebecca Henderson, known for her roles in “Star Wars: The Acolyte” (Disney) and “Russian Doll” (Netflix), and Liza Colón-Zayas from “The Bear” (FX).
Produced by O Positive Films in New York and created by David Shane, represented by 3 Arts Entertainment, “Driven” centers on Theodora “Teddy” Fischer (Henderson), an Uber driver and struggling post-post-modern novelist. Teddy’s life hits rock bottom after getting fired from an animated children’s show for a controversial episode and dealing with her wife’s departure. When she contemplates suicide, a ride request from Yari Alvarez, an overly confident, deaf Puerto Rican yodeler, changes her path. The encounter leads them to Yari’s parents’ McMansion, where they face rejection from Yari’s no-nonsense mother, Reina (Colón-Zayas), and an awkward confrontation with her conflict-avoidant father,...

Last week, we learned that The Acolyte had a bigger debut than 2023's Ahsoka with a whopping 4.8 million views on Disney+ during its first day on the streamer.
That was the official word from Disney, anyway, though no first-day viewership numbers were ever officially announced for Ahsoka. Instead, we were told that it took the Star Wars Rebels follow-up five days to reach 14 million views, giving it a per-day average of 2.8 million.
Whether or not The Acolyte really did beat Ahsoka during its first day of streaming is hard to say; either way, we've now discovered that it failed to top its fellow Star Wars series in its first five days on the platform.
According to Variety (via SFFGazette.com), the show drew an impressive 11.1 million viewers, almost 3 million less than Ahsoka during the same period.
There may be lots of reasons for this, including the fact Ahsoka featured a well-known character and setting.

A substantial number of Disney+ users followed The Acolyte over its first few days on the streamer.
Disney+ says the Star Wars series recorded the biggest opening for a show on the streamer so far this year, with the premiere episode recording 11.1 million views — i.e., the equivalent of that many complete showings of the 42-minute episode — worldwide over five days. (That equates to about 426.2 million minutes, or 7.77 million hours, of watch time.)
The Acolyte fell somewhat shy of the most recent Star Wars series premiere on Disney+: Ahsoka drew 14 million views over its first five days in August 2023. It’s on par with the debut of Percy Jackson and the Olympians in December, which had 13.3 million views over six days — which works out to about about the same daily average (2.22 million views) as that of The Acolyte over five days.
Disney+ had earlier noted that The Acolyte’s opening day gathered 4.8 million views.

The first episode of The Acolyte, "Lost / Found," ended with the introduction of The Master, a mysterious new villain who is almost certainly a Sith Lord. He wields a red lightsaber and intends to destroy the Jedi, so short of us meeting a new group of dark side Force users, this character must come before Darth Plagueis and Emperor Palpatine.
Fans have been speculating ever since about who might be beneath the mask and, given the secrecy surrounding who he is both in the show and promotional materials, The Master must be either a character we've met in the series or someone from the wider Star Wars franchise.
However, it seems the Loth-cat is now out of the bag.

Leslye Headland is not a tentative person. She pauses before speaking, but not because she’s waffling about what to say. More because she’s a writer and how is almost as important as what she says, and also because we’re talking about The Acolyte, her upcoming TV show set in the Star Wars universe during the High Republic (for the non-saber-pilled among us, that’s about 100 years before The Phantom Menace, the beginning of what’s referred to as the Skywalker Saga, when Sith happens). She is the showrunner,...

The first two episodes of The Acolyte hinted at several big mysteries in this Galaxy Far, Far Away and it's apparent the Star Wars TV series will keep fans coming back week-to-week in the hope of learning more.
It's been established that Mae wants to kill four Jedi Masters for their role in separating her and Osha as children and she's already dispatched Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Torbin (Dean-Charles Chapman).
The latter took the Barash Vow, and was shown floating in a silent state of Force meditation for over a decade before willingly drinking the poison Mae presented him with. We finally have a detective murder mystery series in the Star Wars universe in the form of Star Wars: The Acolyte. Created by Leslye Headland, the Disney+ series is set 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and we follow the story of a former Padawan as she reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a murder and a series of crimes only to find something far more sinister then they could have ever anticipated.
While the Headland series is getting favorable reviews from the critics it is getting a big thumbs down from the audience according to its low Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score and IMDb score. So, if you are looking forward to watching Star Wars: The Acolyte here are the dates for all its upcoming episodes.

Lucasfilm's latest Star Wars series, The Acolyte, debuted on Disney+ earlier this week with a two-episode premiere, and a lot of people have tuned in for the first live-action Galaxy Far, Far Away adventure set in the High Republic Era.
Despite the usual backlash, The Acolyte was a big hit with critics (it currently sits at a most impressive 93% on Rotten Tomatoes) and the positive reviews appear to have convinced more than just Star Wars aficionados to give this one a go.
According to Disney+, The Acolyte is the most-watched series premiere of 2024, logging 4.8 million views within its first day of streaming (views are defined as total stream time divided by runtime). Disney+ did not report same-day viewership for the previous Star Wars show, Ahsoka, but did announce that it had reached 14 million views within its first five days on the platform.

The new Star Wars outing on Disney+ has the force on its side. Deadline is reporting that the new Jedi-centric show debuted with 4.8 million views on its first day. This makes The Acolyte Disney+’s biggest series premiere of the year. It is on track to overtake Ahsoka‘s performance of generating 14 million views in its first five days.
This bit of news comes as somewhat of a surprise since Disney+ doesn’t usually release streaming numbers after just the first day. The company announced Ahsoka‘s viewership after five days most likely due to the popularity of the character. Last December, the streamer announced numbers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians after its first six days. Other shows on the streamer don’t usually get their viewer numbers released unless they are rather good. Reporting the numbers for The Acolyte so soon after the premiere makes it seem like...

The second episode of Lucasfilm's latest live-action Star Wars series, The Acolyte, reveals some interesting new details about the dangerous mission Mae was given by the mysterious Dark-side warrior glimpsed in the closing moments of the series premiere.
If you haven't watched yet, here's your spoiler warning.
Shortly after Mae dispatches Master Indara in the first episode, we learn that several other Jedi are on her kill list, and it later comes to light that she has very specific instructions when it comes to her method of assassination.
In episode 2, Qimir reminds Mae that her Master has ordered her to kill at least one of the Jedi without the use of a weapon. It was generally assumed that this was simply down to passing a test of skill, but there's a lot more to it.

The Acolyte is off to a promising start on Disney+.
The new Star Wars series launched on June 4 with two episodes, generating 4.8M views in its first day on the streamer. That makes it the biggest series premiere on Disney+ this year.
Disney+ doesn’t generally release viewership data for series after just one day of streaming. In August, the streamer said that Ahsoka drew 14M views in its first 5 days. As of now, The Acolyte is on track to zoom right past that benchmark, but it’ll need to sustain similar viewership over the weekend in order to do so.
The streamer can be a bit inconsistent with its viewership data, generally. When Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted in December, Disney+ announced that series’ six-day viewership tally. However, releasing the viewership for one single day of viewing does indicate that Disney+ feels quite confident in The Acolyte‘s ability to keep performing well.

Update: Though it initially appeared that “The Acolyte” may have had a stronger debut than 2023’s “Ahsoka,” Disney shared that the first episode of its latest Star Wars series reached 11.1 million views in its first five days — almost 3 million short of what “Ahsoka” achieved in the same amount of time. “The Acolyte” still represents Disney+’s biggest series premiere of 2024, however.
Previously: “The Acolyte,” Disney+’s newest Star Wars series, reached 4.8 million views in its first day of availability. This marks the streamer’s biggest series premiere of 2024, according to Disney.
An exact first-day viewership total isn’t available for “Ahsoka,” the most recent Star Wars series, though Disney did report that it took five days to reach 14 million views. That comes out to an average of 2.8 million viewers per day — 2 million below the launch of “The Acolyte,” though it’s likely that most of “Ahsoka’s” was concentrated in...

The Acolyte is set during The High Republic Era and plays out around 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. The Jedi Order is at the height of its power and the Galaxy is at peace, a far cry from the rise of the Empire during the prequels.
The Disney+ series has, unfortunately, already received backlash for featuring a diverse cast. Now, a new interview with showrunner Leslye Headland and lead star Amandla Stenberg is likely to only further incense its detractors.
The Wrap (via SFFGazette.com) asked them whether The Acolyte really is "the gayest Star Wars yet," to which Headland responded, "No, I don't think so. Yet people have told me it's the gayest Star Wars and I’m frankly..."
"You're offended?" Stenberg asked. "Into it," Headland responded with a laugh.

In his latest venture beyond the world of Squid Game, as Lee Jung-jae entered the Star Wars universe with the Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte, the actor showcased his dedication to his craft in a remarkable manner. Revealing behind-the-scenes details of filming, Jung-jae recalled going to extraordinary lengths to learn English for his role.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte are now streaming on Disney+, and Lucasfilm's latest live-action Star Wars series wastes little time in subverting audience expectations when it comes to one particular character.
Major spoilers follow.
In the series premiere,"Lost/Found," we see mysterious warrior Mae (Amandla Stenberg) confront Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) in a cantina and command her to attack "with everything she has." Initially dismissive, Indara soon finds herself staring into a familiar face from her past, and the battle is on.
Unable to get the better of the Jedi in a fair fight, Mae resorts to throwing one of her blades at the bartender, and when Indara uses the Force to stop the weapon before it strikes, the Dark-side assassin takes advantage of the distraction by flinging another knife into her opponent's chest.

The best Star Wars stories aren’t just about Star Wars itself, but about the people behind them. Star Wars: The Acolyte embraces this, weaving a narrative that touches on relationships, childhood, and the deeper lore of the galaxy far, far away. A Diverse Cast with Varied Perspectives When I sat down to chat with Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, and Rebecca Henderson about their experiences on the set of The Acolyte, it was clear that each actor brought their own unique perspective shaped by different eras of Star Wars. Keen reflected on her early experiences:When you say Star Wars to me,...

The review embargo for The Acolyte lifted yesterday and with 80 verdicts now counted from critics, it sits at a "Certified Fresh" 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. As we first explained on SFFGazette.com, that puts it in the same ballpark as Andor (96%).
A "Critics Consensus" has also been generated which reads, "Taking fresh risks with Star Wars lore while having infectious fun playing with the stylistic trappings of a galaxy far, far away, The Acolyte is a Padawan series with the potential to become a Master."
However, the Audience Score seems to tell a very different story as it sits at a lowly 46%.
There does appear to be some evidence of review bombing here because it was on 48% several hours before The Acolyte premiered on Disney+. A quick look on social media suggests the main gripe among those "fans" is the show's diverse cast and a supposed "woke agenda" from Lucasfilm.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte are now streaming on Disney+, and the series premiere includes a couple of call-backs to the original Star Wars trilogy that can't have slipped past too many fans of the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Though these aren't exactly massive reveals, if you haven't watched yet and would rather know as little as possible, here's your spoiler warning.
The first nod to classic Star Wars was probably to be expected in a show focusing on Jedi, as we hear Master Vanestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) say “May the Force be with you” to Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) as he departs on a mission. The second is also an oft-repeated Star Wars phrase, but some fans seem to think that it felt a little more... forced.

The first episode of The Acolyte establishes the show as taking place 100 years before the rise of the Empire. The Galaxy is peaceful and both the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic have prospered without war.
We then meet a young woman played by Amandla Stenberg who confronts Carrie-Anne Moss' Jedi Master Indara. A fight ensues, with the two combatants using the Force to counter each other's moves. Stenberg's character uses knives and throws one of them at the bartender, distracting Indara and allowing the apparent villain to stab and kill her.
She shows mercy to the bartender saved by the fallen Jedi and we later catch up with her, now identified as Osha, working aboard a Trade Federation ship as a mechanic. Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) and Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen...

This article contains mild spoilers for "Star Wars: The Acolyte" episodes 1 and 2.
"Star Wars: The Acolyte," the brand new show on Disney+ set in a galaxy far, far away, is about as far removed from anything we've previously seen in the live-action "Star Wars" universe as you can get. Its story takes place in the High Republic era, a time period that most audiences are completely unfamiliar with and is entirely divorced from the events of the Skywalker Saga along with the majority of other live-action "Star Wars" projects released up to this point. Taking place roughly 100 years before "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace," there are very few constants for "The Acolyte" to fall back on.
One of those constants, however, involves bringing a key character from the High Republic books -- that of the Jedi Vernestra Rwoh -- into live-action in a way that might be surprising.

Recent years have seen all manner of Star Wars books and comics set in The High Republic Era released by Lucasfilm. If you have neither the time nor the inclination to devote countless hours to those, you may be concerned about how well you’ll grasp The Acolyte. Thankfully, the latest Star Wars TV series is arguably the most new viewer-friendly effort from the studio since The Mandalorian’s debut season. The result is a gripping new addition to the franchise which, based on the four episodes we’ve seen, will keep you hooked from start to finish.
Familiar yet different, The High Republic Era takes place at a time when the Jedi Order was at the height of its power with few significant threats to worry about. That changes with the appearance of an "acolyte" who has been tasked with killing four members of the Order at the behest...

Here at FandomWire, we review the new Disney+ Star Wars saga The Acolyte. This article does not contain significant spoilers.
While many have openly complained that Disney has ruined Star Wars and Marvel franchises with event-streaming series, I’m not one of them as of late. In fact, with the magnetic and compelling Ahsoka that came out last year, they are on a roll with The Acolyte, a stunning and captivating new chapter in the Star Wars saga.
By the time the fourth episode brings the rising action that wrenches up the tension and suspense to new levels, you have numerous badass lightsaber battles, galactic battlefields, a jaw-dropping introduction to one of the series’ best new villains, and, of course, who doesn’t love a Jedi Wookiee who wields the Force like the back of their scruffy hands?
Not to mention the birth of female action heroines for which Disney does not get enough credit.

The resulting fracas is something you definitely won’t be familiar with — at least not from Star Wars. A whirlwind of wuxia-inspired fists and feet, the series prologue has the flavour of Hong Kong action cinema, but with a distinctly Star Wars twist — punches and parries augmented with Jedi abilities that block and throw with unseen power. It’s an arresting display of precision-choreographed Force-fu that unfolds (almost) without either party reaching for a lightsaber. Sometimes, the "Star Wars" universe can seem very small. The vast majority of television we've seen on Disney+ that takes place in a galaxy far, far away is intrinsically tied to the Skywalker Saga in one way or another. Even "Andor" ties directly into the Rebellion and the work of Princess Leia and the people of Alderaan, and it might be the one that feels most removed. The universe of "The Mandalorian" felt separate for a while, but Luke Skywalker's appearance in season two brought it right back into the world of the classic trilogy.
For most "Star Wars" fans — myself included — this small universe phenomenon where everything is connected is a feature, not a bug. That doesn't mean it's not still refreshing to see things completely divorced from the Skywalker Saga and gives us a new window into "Star Wars," and that's exactly what Leslye Headland's murder mystery series,...
