“RuPaul’s Drag Race” powers on — literally.
Season 16 stars Dawn, Mhi’Ya Iman Le’Paige, Morphine, Q, Plane Jane, Sapphira Cristál and winner Nymphia Wind performed the original song “Power” from the “Werq the World” episode at Monday’s Emmy FYC event at the Culver City Library.
And only “Just for Variety” has the exclusive premiere of the performance.
Yes, drag queens at a library. While MTV noted in a post-event press release that the festivities were not “sponsored or endorsed by L.A. County Library,” this reporter — who moderated the FYC Q&a — reminded the 300 or so people gathered in the audience what RuPaul once said: “If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her, because knowledge is power. And if someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you — so listen to a drag queen.”

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 concluded on April 19 with the sixteenth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Vying for the crown in the “Grand Finale” were three finalists: New York’s Nymphia Wind, Boston’s Plane Jane, and Philadelphia’s Sapphira Cristál.
Previously in episode 15, the eliminated queens returned to compete in a first ever “LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown – Reunited” episode. In a nine-lip sync tournament, Morphine Love Dion came out on top as the ultimate lip sync assassin of the season and was named “Queen of She Already Done Had Hereses” with a $50,000 cash prize.
In this week’s final episode, Nymphia, Jane and Sapphira all perform an original number and then a third place finisher is determined. Additionally, the previously eliminated queens walk the runway once more and Miss Congeniality is named. Then, the last two standing compete in one final, title-earning Lip Sync...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on April 12 with the fifteenth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode 14, the top four told stories of their own lives memoir style in podcast interviews. Plane Jane and Q found themselves vulnerable as the bottom two and Q was shocked to be sent home instead of marching on to the “Grand Finale” alongside her sisters.
This week, instead of the standard reunion episode, RuPaul Charles invites the eliminated queens back for a “LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown” where one comes out on top of the tournament $50,000 richer. Seated at the judges’ dais this week to help decide the match-up winners were longtime bestie Michelle Visage and recurring judge Ts Madison.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on April 5 with the fourteenth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode 13, Sapphira Cristál found herself vulnerable to elimination for the first time in the competition after serving up the judges’ least favorite “family resemblance” in the drag makeover challenge. In the Lip Sync for Your Life, her track record proved too impressive for Morphine Love Dion, lip syncing for the fourth time, to overcome.
Seated at the judges’ dais this week for episode 14 titled “Booked & Blessed” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Ts Madison, and journalist Ronan Farrow as the special guest judge.
The queens still vying for the crown are: Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane, Q, and Sapphira Cristál.

Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Trixie Mattel recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s twelfth episode, season 2 winner of “Drag Race UK” Lawrence Chaney makes her recapping debut with no interest in giving “credit where it’s not due.” Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of the episode, Lawrence was happy to see Q reveal a “real human emotion moment” in how she felt some type away about Sapphira Cristál winning last week’s challenge. Both her and Trixie thought it was smart of her to not speak too much about her feelings though because she might have said something she regretted. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on March 22 with episode 12 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. For this week’s challenge, the final six queens worked in pairs to design bathroom spaces in “Bathroom Hunties,” a “House Hunters” spoof. Based on critiques from the judges, Sapphira Cristál and Plane Jane were feeling the most confident about their chances at a win as the queens made their way to the Untucked Lounge.
All the queens thought that the challenge and the improv aspect was “harder than the seminars” from last week. That was, in part, why Jane had a “breakdown” in the Werk Room where she showed the first crack in the armor with a lack of confidence going into the performance. She explained that the challenges are getting harder and though she’s “fueled by delusion,” that...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on March 22 with the twelfth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode 11, the girls were challenged by getting into their corporate gig to deliver informative sessions on “Drag Awareness.” Sapphira Cristál outshined the members of her group, earning a third maxi challenge for herself and sending Morphine Love Dion into the Lip Sync for Your Life against fellow Miami queen Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige. In her fourth trip to the bottom, Mhi’ya was bested by Morphine and sent packing.
Seated at the judges’ dais this week for episode 12 titled “Bathroom Hunties” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley, and Mayan Lopez as the special guest judge.

Call it a self-fulfilling prophecy, suggestive editing or a mix of both, but Morphine Love Dion predicted that she could land in the bottom two on Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race — and she was right.
Morphine vocalized her fear after being paired with Q on this week’s maxi challenge, which required the queens to design and promote their own… bathrooms? (Something tells us this isn’t the episode that Drag Race is going to submit for Emmy consideration.)

After receiving their critiques from the judges, the queens made their way to the “Untucked Lounge” to reflect on their performances in the maxi challenge and 80s inspired runway looks. The consensus in the room was that this was the hardest challenge so far this season and they agreed that the hosting aspect and structure is what made it so difficult. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on March 15 with the eleventh episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode ten, the queens promoted the power of voting by adding original verses to RuPaul’s newest hit “Power.” In a surprising twist, Sapphira Cristál and Morphine Love Dion were named the top two and asked to face off in a Lip Sync for the Win. Sapphira earned her second maxi challenge win by defeating Morphine while Plane Jane contributed to what became a non-elimination episode by sparing Nymphia Wind with her soon-to-expire Immunity Potion.

Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. For this week’s challenge, the eight remaining queens faced their third design challenge in a task to create a “Neo-Goth” look that is both darkly twisted and fashionable. All of them received critiques from the judges and then made their way as a full group to the lounge with an unclear vision of how the winner and bottom two placements would unfold.
Plane Jane was a bit surprised that she got a “mixed bag” of critiques and wondered if maybe this is the week she should have used her Immunity Potion. Dawn told her that she made a “lovely and detailed” garment, but compared to the other more intricate designs by her, Q and Nymphia Wind, it didn’t measure up.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 16 with the seventh episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode six, Geneva Karr‘s branded doll edition was among the judges’ least favorite and she found herself in the bottom for the third time. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 26 with the fourth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Following two non-elimination premiere episodes Part 1 and Part 2, the girls walked in the “The Mother of All Balls” in episode 3 where Hershii LiqCour-Jeté served the three looks that wowed her peers and the judges the least. Hershii lost the Lip Sync for Your Life to a surprised-to-be-ranked-at-the-bottom Geneva Karr. The winner of the week was Nymphia Wind who created a look from scratch that was declared as one of the best in series herstory.
This week, Geneva, Nymphia and the remaining 11 queens get in their comedy gigs for a live, one-take acting challenge. Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 4 titled “Rdr Live!” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Ross Matthews, and the original “Slayer” Sarah Michelle Gellar as the extra special guest.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 19 with episode 3 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. As in the premiere episodes, following their three-loo presentations in the ball challenge, the 14 queens became judges of their sisters through the “Rate-a-Queen” twist that required them to rank their competition from tops to bottoms each week. Based on those rankings, Q, Nymphia Wind, and Sapphira Cristál placed in the top and Geneva Karr, Hershii LiqCour-Jeté, and Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige placed in the bottom.
In episode 3 of “Untucked,” the group of 14 all new queens reflected on the design challenge and runway presentations in “The Mother of All Balls.” Among the safe queens, Amanda Tori Meating was excited to be safe because she was so worried about getting her final look together, but Megami was disappointed in her placement because...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on January 19 with the third episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” In the premiere episodes Part 1 and Part 2, the 14 all new queens were split into two groups of seven to show off their talents and introduce themselves to the judges. Following the “Rate-a-Queen” twist where the queens ranked each other for the week and two lip syncs for the win, Sapphira Cristál and Plane Jane were declared the first two winners of the season and each earned immunity from a future elimination.
This week, all 14 queens met their entire cast together for the first time and then were challenged with a design challenge ahead of their walk in the seasonal fashion ball. Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 3 titled “The Mother of All Balls” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley,...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 kick started 2024 on January 5 with Part 1 of its two-part premiere. In this first episode, only one half of the new cast began the competition to begin “America’s next drag superstar” in two challenges: a photo shoot on RuPaul’s front porch and a talent extravaganza to show off their talent skills. But don’t get too comfortable because Ru threw in a “twystery” or two for the girlies as well.
Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 1 titled “Rate-a-Queen” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley, and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron as the extra special guest.
The seven queens introduced this week are: Amanda Tori Meating, Dawn, Mirage, Morphine Love Dion, Q, Sapphira Cristál, and Xunami Muse.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” is growing up before our eyes — her Sweet Sixteen season is scheduled to debut on January 5, 2024 on MTV. This time around, the ages of the 14 drag queens range from 24 to 34. They come from every corner of the U.S. — from New York to Florida to California — with one being born in Mexico and another hailing from Taiwan. Note that the winning contestant who survives all of the “sashay aways” will take home an eyebrow-plucking $200,000 grand prize.
Host RuPaul Charles is once again joined on the judges’ panel by Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and Ts Madison. In a new twist, this cycle will allow the participants to rank each other’s challenge performances in a “Rate-a-Queen” segment, and that will determine how they’ll all be sorted into the tops and the bottoms of the week.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” has reached her sweet 16.
The Emmy-winning reality competition series — which returns to MTV for its 16th season on Jan. 5 — revealed the 14 new drag queens competing for the $200,000 grand prize and the title of America’s next drag superstar on Wednesday.
The two-part series premiere will feature the queens showing off their stuff in the annual talent show, which has become a mainstay on the series. This year, however, the show — which will be themed separately for MTV’s Spring Break and the “Queen Choice Awards” — will feature a new twist in the competition: “Rate-a-Queen.” After the performances have ended, the contestants must rank their fellow queens’ performances to determine the tops and bottoms of the week.
The aftershow “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked” is also returning, airing immediately following the series.
And yes, after last year’s controversial switch to 60-minute episodes, “Drag Race” has returned to its full glory,...

The 10-episode miniseries, which debuted on Netflix April 6, carries a name that completely conveys its plot. “Beef” centers on two strangers — a failing contractor named Danny Cho (Steven Yeun), and an unsatisfied entrepreneur named Amy Lau (Ali Wong) — whose worlds literally collide after they get into a road rage incident. When things escalate, the feud brings out their innermost darkest sides.
The cast includes Wong, Yeun, Young Mazino, David Choe, Mia Serafino, Ashley Park, Justin H. Min, Joseph Lee and Andrew Santino.
The A24-produced thriller was created by Lee Sung Jin, and executive produced by Jake Schreier, Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich. Series leads Wong and Yeun also serve as executive producers.
“Beef’s” original Score is by Bobby Krlic, and the soundtrack includes songs by prominent artists Christina Aguilera, Hoobstank and even tracks from Yeun and some of the cast.

"The Simpsons" took over the world in 1989 and never looked back, with Matt Groening and company creating season after season of amazing television filled with unforgettable jokes, brilliant characters, and a non-stop bevy of fantastic guest stars. The show kept going, and going — and it's still going, with the 34th season set to premiere later this year.
With over 700 episodes, some say "The Simpsons" has more than overstayed its welcome. Naysayers are more than happy to point out that the show hasn't been good for decades. I think that claim is absolute rubbish. Although "The Simpsons" is no longer in its golden age and all the writers that made the show loved the world over have long since departed, there's still plenty to enjoy in more recent seasons.
With so many episodes, tons are bound to fly under the radar, so my mission is to take you on a journey...

Welcome to the ninth installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the ninth episode, “Boca," coming up just as soon as you lie like I play the French horn... "I didn't hurt nobody." -Tony In the grand scheme of "Sopranos" season 1, the most important part of "Boca" takes place on a Jersey golf course, where Uncle Junior and Tony...
