House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and two dozen members of Congress assembled at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., last week for the second-annual National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance. The event was chock-a-block with Christian nationalist pastors and featured a clarion call for spiritual warfare, with members of Congress beseeching fellow Christians to “tie the hands of Satan” and to “bind the demonic forces” that are supposedly possessing America.

Christian Nationalists were out in force at Mar-a-Lago on Friday night, once again demonstrating their proximity to Maga power.
Lance Wallnau — the chief promoter of a “Seven Mountains Mandate” for right-wing Christians to seize control over government and culture — was dressed in a tux and streaming live to his 1 million Facebook followers. The black-tie event was the America First Policy Institute gala at Trump’s Palm Beach estate, where the former president was soon to speak.

‘A video of new House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) from last month surfaced and showed Johnson in a prayer call alongside far-right Pastor Jim Garlow from the World Prayer Network.
The call focused on Johnson’s belief that America’s wickedness was an invitation for God’s wrath, and called the country “so dark and depraved that it almost seems irredeemable at this point.”
Johnson went into great detail about why America is “in a time of judgment” as “the faith in our institutions is its lowest it’s ever been in the history of our nation.”
As evidence, he listed the increase in teens that specify as gay or nonbinary, and youth’s decline of the church.
Johnson provided his followers a glimmer of hope when he ended that the faithful few, known as the “remnant,” would be significant enough to make a difference.
He expressed optimism that God will provide guidance and support,...

In an October prayer call hosted by a Christian-nationalist Maga pastor, Rep. Mike Johnson was troubled that America’s wickedness was inviting God’s wrath.
Talking to pastor Jim Garlow on a broadcast of the World Prayer Network, Johnson spoke ominously of America facing a “civilizational moment.” He said, “The only question is: Is God going to allow our nation to enter a time of judgment for our collective sins? … Or is he going to give us one more chance to restore the foundations and return to Him?”

A week before Jan. 6, on a Zoom call organized by far-right Christian Nationalists seeking to reinstall Donald Trump in the White House, a man with a booming baritone voice bowed his bald head and began to pray. “We remember the promises of old,” he said, before invoking the book of Revelations and its account of the End Times: “We know we overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony and not loving our lives unto death.”
