Simone Spagnolo

Simone Spagnolo is composer, musician and writer. His music has been
performed and broadcast in UK, Italy, USA, Norway, Czech Republic and
China by acclaimed ensembles and artists such as Philharmonia
Orchestra, Asia America Symphony Orchestra, Allegri String Quartet,
Rosamunda Trio, Darragh Morgan, Alda Dizadari and M.J.Urkestra. With
his works he won three times the Asia America Symphony Orchestra
Composition Prize (Los Angeles, 2006, 2008, 2009), earning the
distinction of being the First Prize Winner from outside of the USA and
receiving his awards from legendary pianist and composer David Benoit.
In 2008 he was appointed as Composer-in-residence for the Anteros Art
Centre, Norwich (UK), and in 2011 as Artist-in-residence at Bergen's
USF Verftet (Norway). His music has been performed in venues and
festivals including London's Royal Festival Hall, St.
Martin-in-the-Fields, English National Opera, Blackheath Halls,
Tête-à-Tête Festival, Brno's Janacek Academy, California's Stanford
University, Aratani Theatre in Los Angeles and New York's Sputnik
Gallery.
Other awards include the 2009 Philip Bates Prize for opera composition (Birmingham Conservatoire), 2011 Recital Music Composition Competition (Templecombe, UK), and 2008 David Turton Prize for Music Composition (Middlesex University, London). In 2011 Simone composed the soundtracks for jewelry firm Fabergé's I-Pad App, rated in June 2011 as No. 2 New & Noteworthy I-Pad App.
Simone has composed over hundred compositions for concert music, film, ballet and opera. He has collaborated as composer and orchestrator for films including: Closure (2013), The Ottoman Love Affair (2011), The Music Shoot (2011), A Favourite Place (nominated for the Limelight Film and Art Award, 2008), Trapped (2007), Souls to Squeeze (2007), and NSOSV (2005). Ballets he composed for include: Once You're Gone and The Tempest, toured at 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Embryonic Steps, Voices from Under Surface, Traces and Alice in Wonderland, partly documented by BBC at Laban Conservatoire of Dance. In 2013 Simone launched two albums, "Silenzio" and "Mir Fabergé", which are available on all major online music stores.
Simone has worked for musicians including Rufus Wainwright, Errollyn Wallen and Francois Evans, and has been invited to lecture on his music at London's The Purcell School, Middlesex University and Central School of Speech and Drama. Graduated with a First Class Honour, he gained a Master Degree and Master in Philosophy in composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Simone is author of 'Musical Saw: Mechanics and Notation' and contributor of The New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments.
