With The Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Andrew Lincoln seems to have finally wrapped up his time making his way through the zombie-filled post-apocalypse as lawman Rick Grimes… and now Deadline reports that he’s moving on by signing to star in and executive produce the British TV thriller Cold Water, which is set up at ITV.
Playwright David Ireland is writing the series, which is being produced by Eric production company Sister. Lincoln will be taking on the role of John, a repressed man who who is shocked to find himself in middle age, secretly raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad. He moves to a backwater Scottish village and strikes up a friendship with next door neighbor Tommy, who is despised by wife Fiona. When her husband’s relationship with their enigmatic new neighbour becomes increasingly intense, Fiona’s suspicions are aroused.

Andrew Lincoln will make a long-awaited return to British television in ITV’s newly-commissioned Cold Water.
Joining The Walking Dead star in the six-part thriller will be Ewen Bremner (Our Flag Means Death, Trainspotting), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones, Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Eve Myles (Hijack, Keeping Faith).
Written by playwright David Ireland and produced by Sister, the series is set in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater. It follows John (Lincoln), a repressed man suffering from an identity crisis who moves his wife (Varma) and children far from London. He is quickly befriended by a neighbor (Bremner), who harbors horrifying secrets. “John’s long-repressed rage comes to a head with disastrous results, he soon finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend,” a plot synopsis reads.
Ireland, who serves as writer, creator, and executive producer on the project, said: “Cold Water started with a question I was asking myself. Where...

Exclusive: Elisabeth Murdoch, Jane Featherstone and Stacey Snider’s Chernobyl producer Sister has posted a near-20M loss due to continued disruption caused by the Covid pandemic and expansion investment, with CFO Chris Fry stating that the transatlantic indie has “laid the foundations for future growth.”
In Sister’s full year accounts to December 31 2021, seen by Deadline, the company recorded an adjusted Ebitda of 18.6M, more than double the previous set of accounts’ 7.7M loss, although those accounts are incomparable as they were recorded over an 18-month period.
At 35.9M, revenues were also “significantly lower than expected,” according to the document, which was put down to “the continued impact of Covid and subsequently delays to the production schedule of programmes.”

Amazon Prime Video is continuing its mission of commissioning “local for local” shows as its European operation becomes more entrenched.
Georgia Brown, head of Amazon Studios for Europe, told a packed Series Mania session in Lille on Thursday that her regional staff across the continent aren’t looking for international ideas, but rather location-specific conceits.
“If we’re commissioning a big show in Spain, I need it to be a hit in Spain,” said Brown. “Lots of people come to us saying, ‘We have a great international show,’ and that doesn’t really work for us. What we need is a regional focus, a specific place.”
One such example is six-part series “Jungle” out of the U.K., which Brown described as a “hybrid rap musical set in the world of grime [music],” which began life as a 10-minute music video that was sent to former Amazon executive Lydia Hampson.

Transatlantic production powerhouse Sister has hired Amazon Studios scripted executive Lydia Hampson as executive producer. The company has also struck a first-look deal with Hampson and Amazon Studios U.K.
Hampson most recently served as the head of U.K. scripted for Amazon Studios. At Sister — the indie studio set up by Jane Featherstone, Stacey Snider and Elisabeth Murdoch — Hampson’s first project will be “The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies,” which she’ll join as an executive producer, working alongside Sister’s joint head of scripted and executive producer Naomi de Pear (“This Is Going to Hurt”) and director of development Alice Tyler.

“1917” has won the Producers Guild of America’s award as the best-produced feature film of 2019, giving it an important victory at an awards show that usually honors the film that goes on to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
The film, an immersive drama about World War I that was fashioned to look like a single shot, triumphed in a field that also included top Academy Award contenders “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” “The Irishman,” “Parasite” and “Joker.” While the PGA win makes it a de facto frontrunner of sorts in that race, this is a year in which the Oscar race still feels unsettled.
“Apollo 11” won the award for documentary feature, while “Toy Story 4” won for animated feature.

Television winners included “Succession,” “Fleabag,” “Chernobyl,” “Apollo: Missions to the Moon” and “Leaving Neverland.

The last two Producers Guild of America Awards told us which movies — “Green Book” (2019) and “The Shape of Water” (2018) — would win the Oscar for Best Picture weeks before the Academy Awards. In fact, 21 of the previous PGA Awards winners have then gone on to claim Best Picture victories.
For the 31st annual ceremony slated for Saturday, January 18 at the Hollywood Palladium, we already know the top choice will be at the very least a major front-runner for this year’s Oscar. The PGA’s 10 nominated films are “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “Knives Out,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story,” “1917,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Parasite.” All but “Knives Out” contend at the Oscars for Best Picture.

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees in the motion picture and television categories for its 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards; nominees include recent Golden Globe winners “1917,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” “Missing Link,” “Succession,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl.”
The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 21 of its 30 years, including “The Green Book” last year and “The Shape of Water” in 2018.
The PGA uses a preferential balloting system that’s similar to that employed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The PGA and AMPAS both expanded their voting for the top film to 10 nominees in 2009. About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.
On the TV side, among all of the drama and comedy nominees, only “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (last year’s comedy winner) is a repeat from last year.

The new trailer teases the addition of “Sherlock” star Andrew Scott as a Catholic priest who “jolts [Fleabag] into seeing the world in a different way,” and “Killing Eve” star Fiona Shaw as Fleabag’s therapist.
The new set of episodes comes nearly three years after the first season, with a break for Waller-Bridge to create and write the first season of BBC America’s “Killing Eve.” Now, having handed over the reins of that show, “Fleabag” is heading back to Amazon on May 17.
