Little Changes
Stars: Karl Sedgwick, Safron Beck, Mark Donovan, Jenny Layton | Written & Directed by James Static
Surrealist films are always an iffy prospect. They can often easily come off as overly eccentric or pretentious without a decent story or recurring themes to back up the frankly bizarre audio/visuals. Unfortunately, while feature-length films of this ouevre have a leisurely running time in which to convince the audience that the colourful butterfly-man that just hatched from an easter egg and is proceeding to fellate a seagull does indeed mean something hugely important, short films have no such safety net. Though this can often be a boon – hitting the audience with one intense, vibrant idea then disappearing before they have a chance to get bored or cynical - more often than not it’s a crippling hindrance.
The above paragraph may, then, suggest to you that Little Changes suffers from these problems.
