For years, Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net has been about two things only – awesome art and the artists that create it. With that in mind, we thought why not take the first week of the month to showcase these awesome artists even more? Welcome to “Awesome Artist We’ve Found Around The Net.” In this column, we are focusing on one artist and the awesome art that they create, whether they be amateur, up-and-coming, or well-established. The goal is to uncover these artists so even more people become familiar with them. We ask these artists a few questions to see their origins, influences, and more. If you are an awesome artist or know someone that should be featured, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.This month we are very pleased to bring you the awesome art of…

Production company Benderspink ("A History of Violence") continues developing Image Comics 5-issue title "Turf" by writer Jonathan Ross and illustrator Tommy Lee Edwards as a live-action feature film :
"...New York, 1929. The height of prohibition. The cops turn a blind eye while the mobs run the city, dealing in guns, girls and illegal liquor. But the arrival of the mysterious 'Dragonmir Family' from Eastern Europe with more of a taste for blood then booze coincides with a series of brutal attacks on the gangsters themselves.
"As the gangs fall before the fangs, only a handful of mobsters survive. But an unlikely alliance formed between tough guy 'Eddie Falco' and a character from a Long way from New York City – a long way from Earth in fact - offers the humans a glimmer of hope.

Superheroes have a long history. After flying onto the scene more than eight decades ago, led by Superman, along with fellow octogenarians Batman, Wonder Woman, and Captain America, the pantheon of capes-and-tights characters has expanded to include countless more. And as legendary creators made their mark across decades, the origins and powers of these icons transformed almost as frequently as their costumes.
Meanwhile, the superhero team The Union, from the comic book saga Jupiter’s Legacy, have 90 years of consistent fictional history, with a singular overarching story, envisioned by one man: Mark Millar.
After discovering both Superman and Spider-Man comics the same day, at the age of four in Scotland (where he grew up), the now 51-year-old writer would go on to make a significant impact on the superpowered set. But he wanted his own pantheon.

John Paul Leon, groundbreaking artist on Static and Earth X, died Saturday after an 14-year battle with cancer at the age of 49.
He majored in illustration at New York’s School of Visual Arts, studying under artists such as Will Eisner, Walter Simonson, and Jack Potter. It was during this time that he received his first professional comics job, illustrating the Dark Horse Comics miniseries RoboCop: Prime Suspect (October 1992). By his junior year he was given the job as the inaugural artist on the DC Comics/Milestone ongoing series Static (June 1993), his first breakout work, which Simonson agreed would serve as Leon’s course work for that semester.
Michael Davis, Milestone Media co-founder and co-creator of Static, posted his thoughts in a video on Instragram: “I can’t breathe. I’m a writer who can’t write about John now it’s too painful.”

Legendary Comics and the Webtoon hit series Acursian starring John Barrowman returns with the first weekly chapter leading up to the anticipated conclusion of Season One, now available exclusively on Webtoon. The series, rooted in Celtic lore, is a unique fusion of mythic storytelling from co-creators John Barrowman, Carole Barrowman, and Erika Lewis, with art by Beni Lobel and designs by Tommy Lee Edwards. Readers can visit Webtoon.com for more information. In Acursian, Charlie Stewart, the man who had it all, falls victim to an ancient Celtic curse. Presenting two real-life stories from my days of yore, although names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty.
Story The First:
I knew a girl in high school – I wouldn’t say we were friends, but she was someone who had never participated in the Piggy horrors. Sally was an A+ student, on the track to an Ivy League school. Pretty (but not gorgeous) and popular (but quiet about it), she came to me one day and said that she needed to talk to me privately. I was surprised… and a bit suspicious. What did she want? But because Sally had never been overtly mean to me, even though she was part of the clique that instigated most of the callous cruelties upon me, and because I still hoped to be “accepted,” and I wanted to believe for some reason she was about to warn me...

As much as I would like to spend this column and all of my writings for the foreseeable future on what happened this election and its consequences, I’ll be returning to comics this week as this is what I and everyone at ComicMix signed up for. If I feel it’s applicable down the line, you better believe I’ll be writing about it here.
Moving on.
I’ve dedicated more than a few of my columns to the new Doom Patrol and to DC’s Young Animal imprint. Everything I had written about prior to today has been speculative regarding Young Animal as a whole. Now that at least one issue of all four series under the Young Animal banner have been released, I’d like to discuss my thoughts on the imprint so far.
For those less familiar, DC’s Young Animal imprint is “curated” by musician...

A new collection of fantastic concept art has surfaced from the live-action adaptation of Akira film that never ended up happening. Who knows, maybe one day it will happen? In the meantime, just go watch the original anime movie because it's badass!
The concept art you see here comes from several different artists for several different directors that were attached to the project over the years. There's a lot of fantastic artwork here that features Tetsuo's big finale, the bowling alley, the freeway, the Ducati Demolitore, the Marquee bar, and more!
Here's Concept Art by Tim Flattery, for director Ruairi Robinson.
Concept Art by Rodolfo Dimaggio, possibly for director Jaume Collet-Serra.
Concept Art by Tommy Lee Edwards for director Albert Hughes.
Here's a description of the film they were trying to make:
Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel.

If you've been following the saga of Warner Bros. failed attempt to make a live-action remake of Akira, you will know that the studio has gone through at least three directors. Below you you will see concept art that Tommy Lee Edwards created for Albert Hughes' ("The Book of Eli") version. Tommy Lee Edwards is perhaps best know for collaborating with Mark Millar on 1985 and with J. Michael Straczynski on Bullet Points over at Marvel before teaming up with British chat show host Jonathan Ross for their critically acclaimed limited series, Turf. Pitting gangsters, vampires and aliens all against one another, it makes for a fantastic read and should make for an even better film. Benderspink clearly agree with that last statement as they acquired the rights to the film in 2011. Here is an update on that project and further confirmation that a big screen adaptation of their new series, Golden Age, is also moving ahead. There was talk of Turf becoming a movie (directed by Matthew Vaughn). Can you give us an update on what is happening with the adaptation? We've got other plans for Turf right now, which are personally and professionally really exciting for me. More on that...

Those of us who make their living using words can fully understand how a good book can motivate people. Some of the worst fictional scenarios have involved totalitarian societies banning or burning books so the notion that The Good Book was blamed for global annihilation is a powerful notion. The burning of all bibles in the wake of some near-future event is the spark that propels the compelling The Book of Eli. Out tomorrow from Warner Home Video, the movie is available as a combo pack (Blu-ray, Standard, digital copies).
Written by Gary Whitta, we’re never given much detail about life before the war but we pick up 30 years later and see rural American society struggle to survive. There’s nothing about an American government let alone any sense of what is happening beyond the borders since everyone is worried about that most precious of commodities: water. People have...

Chicago – If there’s one cinematic trope more tired and overused than the apocalypse, it’s the Bible-quoting badass. Everyone from Jules Winnfield to the Boondock Saints have memorably demonstrated that nothing justifies mass-murder quite like the word of the Lord. Yet Eli, the mysterious hero of the Hughes Brothers’ long-awaited thriller, isn’t just armed with a few scriptural quotes. He’s got the whole book.
Despite its mediocre premise, “The Book of Eli” is a surprisingly engaging bit of nonsense, proving star Denzel Washington’s uncanny ability of making any material seem more credible than it actually is. The script by Gary Whitta is pure B-movie hokum, but directors Albert and Allen Hughes inject it with the same invention and audacity they brought to their great 1993 debut feature, “Menace II Society.” Though it’s been nearly a decade since their last film, the Hughes Brothers are still a...

Image has released a preview of Jonathan Ross's forthcoming miniseries Turf. The BBC host is teaming up with artist Tommy Lee Edwards (Marvel 1985) to create the four-issue series. Robot 6 previewed the cover of the first issue of the story of gangsters, vampires and aliens on their blog. "New York, 1929," said Ross. "The height of prohibition. The cops turn a blind eye while the mobs run the city, dealing in guns, girls and illegal liquor. But the arrival of the (more)...

By now you've probably noticed that the Hughes Brothers' The Book of Eli is making its grand debut at Comic-Con during the big Warner Brothers panel on Friday morning. While this movie isn't specifically based on any comics or anything at all, they have involved a lot of prominent comic book people, including artists Chris Weston and Tommy Lee Edwards. Well, over on Bleeding Cool, they have an early look at the poster that Chris Weston designed for The Book of Eli at Comic-Con. It actually looks pretty badass and I thought I'd feature it today before it gets lost in the mix next week in San Diego. Check these out below! The Book of Eli is a a post-apocalyptic tale in which a lone man named Eli (played by Denzel Washington) fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
