The Dcu is still in its early stages, and anticipation surrounds how James Gunn’s vision will unfold on screen. With Gunn’s clear direction, DC Comics fans have much to anticipate. While few projects have been formally announced, casting remains a pivotal focus for many. Actors often voice their interest in specific roles, and Canadian actress Kiana Madeira is the latest to express her desire to portray Zatanna, a beloved and promising character in DC Comics.
Kiana Madeira, a rising Canadian actress, gained recognition through Netflix’s popular teen drama series “Trinkets” and further solidified her status with her role as Deena in the 2021 Netflix horror film trilogy “Fear Street.” In 2021, she joined the After series as Nora in “After We Fell” and has appeared in various television projects, including a minor role in “The Flash” and voicing Supergirl in the animated series “My Adventures with Superman.”

The Dcu is still very young, and we have yet to see how James Gunn’s vision will come to life and what it will look like. But, from the looks of it, Gunn has a very firm vision of what he wants to create, and fans of DC Comics definitely have a lot to be excited about. Not many projects have been announced and planned as of the time of writing, but one common topic is related to the actors who might appear in the Dcu, as casting is always a very important aspect of a project. In light of that fact, fans are always proposing their own choices, but some actors are publically promoting themselves for certain roles!

The number of actors who have appeared in Doctor Who over 60 years is in the thousands – in addition to the main characters, each episode has a supporting cast. Famous actors often drop in for a visit – for example, Stephen Fry, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have appeared in various seasons.
The opposite has also happened – at the time of getting a role in Doctor Who, actors were not yet very famous, but later became real stars.
For example, Matt Smith, who played the Eleventh Doctor, now plays Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, and Jenna Coleman, who played his companion, Clara Oswald, got the role of Johanna Constantine in The Sandman.
Clara's appearance in the first episode of the seventh season was like a breath of fresh air, and her participation in all subsequent episodes was an important part of the whole show. Jenna Coleman's main weapon was her charm,...

Sequels are a given in Hollywood. If a movie is a massive hit—and sometimes even when it’s not—studios are eager to pounce on any opportunity to extend the brand into another film and sometimes even a whole series of them. Franchises and IP (intellectual property) are for better or worse the name of the game in Tinseltown, no matter how often critics and audiences seem to cry out for more original material at the multiplex.
The other thing about sequels is that Hollywood is a strange place that can either move at lightning speed or slow down to a pace of a glacier. While some follow-up films get placed on the fast track and can rocket into theaters in as little as two years, others get bogged down in that infamous existential swamp known as development hell.
So despite some of the announced sequels listed below being...

Celebrated Thai American comic book creator Pornsak Pichetshote is launching The Horizon Experiment, a series of five one-shot comic books.
Each one features original protagonists from marginalized backgrounds set in a popular genre and inspired by pop culture icons. Each character’s unique background allows the stories to go into new directions.
Pichetshote is the creator of Eisner and Harvey Award-winning “The Good Asian” and “Infidel” books. Both are in different stages of development as TV series and a film, respectively. He was also a star editor at DC’s Vertigo imprint, working on titles including “The Sandman” and “Swamp Thing.”

Have you seen an occult fantasy movie or TV series in recent years? If you have, then it is quite possible that it owes a lot to the Hellblazer comic book about John Constantine that DC Comics began publishing in 1988. For example, Supernatural referred to the adventures of Constantine, but traces of the detective-demonologist can be found wherever the smell of hellish fumes and pentagram paints waft.
The rude and dishonest detective John Constantine first appeared in Alan Moore's comic book series The Saga of Swamp Thing. In 2005, the long-running Hellblazer comic was brought to the big screen by director Francis Lawrence.

On February 14, 2024, Pedro Pascal was confirmed to be playing Reed Richards in Marvel Studios' upcoming "Fantastic Four" movie (/Film broke this fantastic scoop early).
More recently, reporting has claimed that before Pascal was locked in, British actor Rahul Kohli was in the running to play Reed. Kohli had been a popular fancasting choice for Reed Richards -- much like John Krasinski, who ended up playing a Reed variant in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness." /Film even named Kohli as one of the actors we'd prefer to see play Mister Fantastic more than Krasinski. So, the idea that he came close to getting the part created intrigue.
But it's not true; Kohli was not in the running to play Mister Fantastic (at least outside fans' hearts and minds). The news sparked after a recent interview between Kohli and Salaam Nerds. During said interview, Kohli acknowledged the fancasts of him...

Even three decades after Speed‘s release, Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves remain one of the most adored onscreen duos, and it’s not surprising to see why. Not only were they impeccable in their respective roles, but the chemistry between the two was also off the charts. While the duo never dated in real life, years later, both actors confessed to having crushes on each other.
It’s not hard to see why it didn’t take long for the two to develop a sincere bond after crossing paths in Speed, as apart from being two of the kindest stars in showbiz, they also share a difficult past.

That surge of excitement has hit a fever pitch for fans as rumors swirl and fan-made trailers ignite our imaginations about Keanu Reeves playing John Constantine again. News of Constantine 2 has been much anticipated by fans, especially since it was earlier reported that the Canadian actor, 59, will play the title character again.
The first film narrated the tale of John Constantine, a cynical demon hunter who must navigate the murky alleys of a parallel, horrifying reality. Although Warner Bros. has not formally disclosed a release date, there is much conjecture that the follow-up film may arrive in theaters early in 2025.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War was an original story that served as a sequel to Justice League Dark. The film served as the finale to the Dcau, which was then rebooted into the Tomorrow-verse. The film deals with some pretty heavy subject matter, concerning the end of the timeline as we knew it.

There is a great beauty to what Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3 is doing—two voice actors who spend a huge part of their careers working together as one of the most iconic duos of all time; The Batman and The Joker. It is well known how liberating the animated medium is when it comes to adapting comic-book-oriented storylines, as proven by a significant number of DC’s animated ventures. For an incredibly important story like Crisis on Infinite Earths, an animated adaptation was necessary to translate the scope of the series for a wider audience. Having the adaptation divided into three parts was a good creative decision as well, as with a vast area to cover, dividing the story into segments helps to focus on distinct portions without making things too confusing for the audience. The first part of the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy was released earlier this year, and the emotional anchor of the story through Barry Allen’s, aka Prime Earth’s Flash’s, life contributed an interesting, comics accurate angle to the adaptation. However, with the recently released second part, it seems the makers have dropped the ball big time,...

There are very few comic book writers who have attained the status of ‘legendary’. Comic book enthusiasts unanimously agree one of them is Alan Moore, who took DC comics to its heights during the 80s and 90s. He revived a number of forgotten supernatural characters, especially through his run with Swamp Thing, such as Spectre, the Demon, the Phantom Stranger, Deadman, and introduced John Constantine.

The more versatile an actor is, the more in demand they are. One of the major skills that an actor needs to grab more projects is the ability to change accents at will. This becomes even more essential when you are in the animation industry, where the way you speak can severely impact the quality of the entire production.

Olivia Wilde’s comic book action film Avengelyne is picking up the sword with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company along for the ride. Based on the signature comic book creation by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, rumor has it Margot Robbie could play the lead, but her reps are denying her involvement with that part of the project. LuckyChap includes Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Simon Kinberg. LuckyChap produced Barbie, the billion-dollar barn-burner based on Mattel’s iconic blonde bombshell. With influence like that, it’s difficult not to imagine Avengelyne being a big to-do.
After directing 2019’s Booksmart and the controversial Don’t Worry Darling, Olivia Wilde is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand filmmakers. According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Avengelyne “is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. It’s been almost twenty years, but there’s a chance we might see Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine on the big screen! In November 2012, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro struck a deal to make a Justice League Dark movie featuring DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. In November 2020, actor Peter Stormare hinted at a sequel possibly being in progress through an Instagram post. However, neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves themselves confirmed this at the time.
Then, in 2023, Francis Lawrence mentioned that he and Keanu Reeves were brainstorming ideas for the sequel, but every time they came close to something solid, the management at DC studio would undergo changes.
“But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit.

When it comes to cult franchises, Keanu Reeves is the man with the Midas touch. From The Matrix films to the John Wick saga, Reeves has proved that his presence is the lucky charm for these film series to attain iconic status in Hollywood. Now, the Speed actor is all set to reprise his dark and edgy 2005 role in Constantine 2 which is currently under development.

Keanu Reeves appeared in 2005’s superhero horror movie Constantine, directed by Francis Lawrence which was loosely based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Comics Hellblazer graphic novels. The actor portrayed the character of a cynical exorcist in the movie, which also starred Tilda Swinton, Shia Labeouf, Rachel Weisz, and more.
Upon its release, Constantine received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics but over the years managed to attain the status of a cult film. Fans of Keanu Reeves were excited when a sequel was announced back in 2022 and the movie is currently in development but an actor recently revealed, they’d not be returning for the sequel.

What does it take for a movie adaptation to transcend its source material? Many a filmmaker uses a book as a blueprint (whether or not they read it in its entirety) but take creative license to put their own unique stylistic and/or thematic spin on what is necessarily a much more visual story than the original one on the page. Often that’s taking a key character—whether a comic book antihero or an unnamed book protagonist—and giving them an entirely new backstory or quest. Or choosing a different point of view that opens up new storytelling avenues. In some cases, book and movie follow the same premise but diverge wildly at the end… or they do reach the same narrative conclusion, but on radically different paths that will leave you with very different emotional reactions as a viewer.

For all you "Saltburn" fans out there (we at /Film consider it the best "Wtf Movie" of 2023), you may have to wait a bit longer for director Emerald Fennell's next project. In an interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Fennell confirmed her film with DC Studios — an adaptation of the magical comic book hero Zatanna — is not moving forward.
Fennell was announced as the writer of the "Zatanna" movie in March 2021, fresh off her directorial debut "Promising Young Woman" the previous year. She was not confirmed to be the director of "Zatanna" and from these recent comments, it sounds like that was never the plan. As Fennell explained, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, was set to produce "Zatanna," but Abrams' vision has been scrapped.

Quick, name a superhero with a more cynical perspective than Batman. Okay, sure there’s Spawn, but I meant in mainstream comics. Yeah, Punisher, but how about in DC Comics? Sure, there’s John Constantine. But I mean a character less suitable for Christmas stories. What’s that you say? Constantine once crushed the bones of St. Nicolas and snorted them into a powder? And Lobo murdered Santa?
Okay, the point is that Batman doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would make for a good Christmas story. Spider-Man can deliver presents while swinging across New York City and Superman has carried Santa’s slay more than once, but Mr. Vengeance doesn’t even like leaving Gotham. Why would he bother with the North Pole?
And yet, Batman has been at the center of several Christmas stories over the year, and some of them are pretty great. Here...

When it comes to costume changes in horror movies, the term is a little more elastic than merely an actor obtaining a different wardrobe. A "costume" in a horror movie might refer to full-body latex or an animatronic suit to completely transform an actor's physicality. It could mean a character goes from being an actor in an outfit to a CG creation. Or it may address the fact that, in adapting non-filmic source material, changes had to be made for the camera, or were made by editorial decision.
Whether it be between installments of a franchise, or from original to remake, or from costume to special effect and vice versa, audiences do not embrace every change. And in some cases, even if most people like a change, purists remain unconvinced. Horror movies, novels, and comics leave indelible images in our minds, so when a newer version "re-skins" them, so to speak,...

'Constantine' director Francis Lawrence has begun "working on some ideas" for 'Constantine 2'.The 52-year-old filmmaker has revealed he and lead star Keanu Reeves, 59, had to regain "control" over 'Constantine' as there was a TV adaptation and then another project with J.J. Abrams in the pipeline. They managed to "wrangle some control" but there was also the Hollywood writer's strike which put a pause on the development of the sequel to the 2005 horror superhero film, but now they are back and raring to go.Speaking to The Wrap, Francis said: "But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit. So we’re probably going to start getting back together after Thanksgiving, and dig back in to try and crack it.

It’s been a roller coaster for ‘Constantine’ fans. Ever since the 2005 cult hit starring Keanu Reeves was released, whispers of a sequel have floated around. And now, there’s renewed hope with both Reeves and the film’s original director, Francis Lawrence, hinting at a comeback.
The 2005 film introduced us to John Constantine, an exceptional exorcist who could see the dark and divine beings of the world. His mission was straightforward: banish every demon to hell and earn a spot in heaven. With standout performances by Rachel Weisz and Tilda Swinton, the film managed a whopping $230 million at the global box office.
But the road to a sequel has been anything but smooth. There were several reasons for the delay, but Francis Lawrence recently told GameSpot that this year’s writers strike was a big hurdle. However, this recent setback isn’t the entire story. There were challenges even before.

Francis Lawrence is giving an update on the development of Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves and things are seemingly moving along.
The sequel to the 2005 superhero horror film was stalled due to the writers strike but with writers back at work, Lawrence has been in meetings with Reeves to continue the saga.
“So Constantine 2 got obviously held up by the writers strike,” Lawrence told Gamespot. “And we had to jump through a bunch of hurdles to get control of the character again, because other people had control of the Vertigo stuff. We have control.”
Lawrence continued, “Keanu and Akiva Goldsman and I have been in meetings and have been hashing out what we think the story is going to be, and there’s more meetings of those that have to happen–the script has to be written–but really hoping that we get to do Constantine 2, and make...

Variety reported last fall that Keanu Reeves was in talks to return for a sequel to “Constantine,” the 2005 superhero horror movie based on the graphic novels from DC Comics and Vertigo Comics. Francis Lawrence, the 2005 film’s director, offered a small but notable update on the project. The filmmaker is set to return alongside Reeves for the sequel.
It turns out a script for “Constantine 2” still does not exist — it got held up by the WGA strike, which is now over — but the two men and original producer Akiva Goldsman are hashing out the story.

Keanu Reeves has dabbled in the superhero genre before by portraying the DC character Constantine. At one point, the actor didn’t rule out doing a Marvel film, either. Although there were a few things about the superhero franchise that gave him pause.

It was eight years ago this week that Arrow kicked off what would be known as its “Mystery Grave” season, seeing as the opener ended with a “Six Months Later” flash-forward that saw Barry Allen arrive late for the funeral of someone clearly close to Oliver Queen.
The only clues we had to go on from that startling, minute-long stinger was that Oliver felt responsibility for whomever‘s death, and as such now was resolved “to kill him,” the person responsible for it.

Growing up I was mostly a console kid. Presently, I play a lot on PC, but when I was younger I used to prefer the out of the box ease of the console. There was, however, one game that finally got me to invest in a graphics card and figure out the whole computer business, and that game was Max Payne. I was obsessed with the tone and feel of the game, which combined the slow mo, double fisted gunfights of a John Woo movie with melodramatic neo-noir storytelling in one of the most unique experiences of the time. While so many developers have been using Quake and Doom as their touchpoints in the current wave of boomer shooters, I’ve been wondering when someone would aim their nostalgia on Max Payne and try to recapture the bullet-time shooter subgenre.

Nearly 20 years ago, back in 2005, Keanu Reeves starred in "Constantine." It was at a time when DC didn't really have a cinematic identity, the very same year that Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" hit theaters. "Constantine" was an R-rated, dark, and gritty take on a comic book film that didn't quite fit the bill of a superhero movie but, particularly in the modern context, certainly feels unique within the genre. Fortunately, the film has maintained a loyal, sizable audience, so much so that Warner Bros. announced plans to make a sequel in 2022.
Much has changed since that initial announcement, however, leaving the project in a bit of a precarious spot. The DC Universe is rapidly changing, Reeves is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, and not one but two different strikes have impacted the project. So, is "Constantine 2" still happening? What's the status of the sequel? We're here...

The old DC Universe is dead, long live the DC Universe. As we get closer and closer to the rebirth of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC hierarchy of power, there is plenty to be excited about, from new takes on iconic characters and also fresh new faces making the leap to the big screen.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new universe is the opportunity to get deeply weird, and no project feels as full of potential for weirdness as "Swamp Thing." One of the most exciting aspects of the new universe is the opportunity to get deeply weird, and no project feels as full of potential for weirdness as "Swamp Thing." Constantine 2 is reportedly in development at Warner Bros. with John Wick's Keanu Reeves set to stick around in the leading role.
Keanu Reeves made his one and only appearance as DC's John Constantine in a 2005 solo outing from director Francis Lawrence.
So, it came as a great shock when it was revealed in September 2022, just before James Gunn's Dcu reboot announcement, that a sequel was in the works with both Reeves and Lawrence returning under a script from Akiva Goldsman.

After the insane multiversal exhibition in the previous episode, which showed Garfield Logan finally realizing his true worth as the metaphysical realm of the Red allows him to find balance, the tenth episode of HBO Max’s Titans reunites Gar with the rest of the members of the team, although not before a detour to his first family, the Doom Patrol. In the ending sequence of the previous episode, as Gar requested the Red to send him home, he ended up in Doom Manor, where Vic found him. On the other hand, a renegade Conner took over Lexcorp and offered Sebastian a proposal to join his side, and the rest of the team got busy hitting upon a plan as to how they could stop May and Sebastian from summoning Trigon into the Earth realm. In this episode, we see three sets of narratives unfolding in parallel as members of...

There was once a time – many, many moons ago – when Keanu Reeves star, before reinventing what it even meant to be a streamlined, teeth-gritted action star.
Over the last three decades he’s found a way to be both soft and rough, cosmic and earthy. He has the spaced-out aura of The Dude until the very moment a switch flips in his head, and he goes into the I-must-break-you mode which has left piles of bad lads beaten in his wake. He is Ted; he is Neo. He is a doofus; he will kill you using a library book. And tying it all together is the sense that, underneath it all, he very earnestly believes in whatever his characters are doing. Keanu Reeves doesn’t do irony, but he does slowly dawning disbelief like nobody else. His superpower isn't dodging bullets – it's really meaning it. From his action classics, to...

The character of John Constantine first appeared in an issue of "Swamp Thing" in June of 1985. He would go on to appear in a comic book called "Hellblazer," a title that described his profession as a paranormal private investigator. For year, Constantine was a favorite of readers drawn to darker and more twisted fantasy stories. In 2005, director Francis Lawrence adapted "Hellblazer" to the big screen in the form of "Constantine" starring Keanu Reeves in the title role.
"Constantine" reworked the character slightly, making him into a freelance exorcist as well as P.I. In the film, Constantine is dealing with cancer, despite his constant hobnobbing with Archangel Gabriel (Tilda Swinton) and the snarling Lucifer (Peter Stormare). "Constantine" was only warmly received by critics, and it currently holds a 46% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also opened to disappointing box office numbers, making less that $30 million against a $100 million budget. Eventually,...

John Wick Chapter 4 has had its premiere, and people are raving about the new installment of Baba Yaga’s odyssey. Some are even already hailing it as one of the best action movies ever. Because of this, the film already had my curiosity, but now it has my attention. Promotion for John Wick Chapter 4 is in full force, and the man of the hour, Keanu Reeves, is talking directly to the fans as part of it. The Matrix star recently hosted an Ama on Reddit, and the fans jumped at the chance to ask him about his interest in the MCU and DC.
In the Ama, a fan asked Reeves if there was ever an acting role he has regretted turning down. He replies that there isn’t. Although, he did add that he always wanted to play Wolverine. There had been reports in the past that Keanu and Marvel...

Keanu Reeves has seen success with both the “Matrix”, “Bill & Ted” and “John Wick” film franchises, but are they any roles he wishes he could have played?
During a recent “Ask Me Anything” session for Reddit, Reeves admitted that he actually did have his eye on a very particular superhero role.
“Has there ever been a role in your career that you regret turning down?” asked one Redditor.

“…No…but I did always want to play Wolverine,” Reeves responded.
Reeves didn’t elaborate as to whether he simply desired the role or lost out to Hugh Jackman, who has played the clawed X-Men hero in nine movies and will be reprising the role in the upcoming “Deadpool 3”.

The DC Extended Universe as we know it seems to be nearing its end, or at least a very comic book-like, universe-shifting reboot. Reflecting the corporate changes at the higher echelon of Warner Bros. after its merger with Discovery, Inc., the company's DC branch is facing its own changing of the guard, bringing in filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran to head the "DC Universe." Gunn's initial slate of films and television series, dubbed "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters," will introduce heroes like Supergirl, Booster Gold, and Damian Wayne, as well as Swamp Thing, who is arguably the most exciting part of Gunn's roster.
Gunn is clearly a fan of the weirder and uglier sides of both Marvel and DC comics. He helped turn the Guardians of the Galaxy from an obscure team of C- and D-list cosmic heroes to Marvel headliners, and then repeated the formula with...

Director, producer JJ Abrams developing live-action TV series, based on DC Comics "Justice League Dark" for exclusive streaming on HBO Max has been canceled:
"...the 'Justice League Dark', aka 'Jld', is a superhero team debuting in DC's "Justice League Dark" #1 (2011), featuring 'John Constantine', 'Madame Xanadu', 'Deadman', 'Shade', the 'Changing Man' and 'Zatanna'...
"...focused on the more 'supernatural' members of the 'DC Universe', handling situations deemed outside the scope of the traditional Justice League.
"In issue #1, Earth's magic once belonged to them. Now they want the magic back. But who exactly are they?
"It’s up to the new 'Justice League Dark' to find out and stop this nightmarish new threat at all costs!
"Team leader 'Wonder Woman' guides the misfit magic mix of 'Zatanna', 'Swamp Thing', 'Man-Bat' and 'Detective Chimp' against enemies too fantastic even for the 'Justice League'.

Akiva Goldsman’s production company Weed Road recently had film and TV deals at MGM, but now that MGM executives Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have moved over to Warner Bros., intending to give the studio’s theatrical franchise output a boost, Weed Road has followed them. Deadline reports that Weed Road has signed a multi-year first look deal with Warner Bros… and since Goldsman has already done a lot of work for the studio over the decades, he sees this deal as a bit of a homecoming. With Weed Road now calling Warner Bros. home, the top priority for the companies are a pair of projects they were already working on together: sequels to the 2005 comic book adaptation Constantine (which Goldsman produced) and the 2007 Richard Matheson adaptation I Am Legend (which Goldsman produced and co-wrote).
