"Saturday Night Live" wrapped up its 37th season this past weekend. Along the way, we were paying attention not just to the quality of the individual sketches in our weekly "SNL" Scorecard, but also to the progress of the cast members in regards to airtime and prominence, which we ranked each week in the Relevancy Poll.
Like last season, we certainly weren't going to let that data go to waste, so, we tallied the results to present to you the complete 2011-12 "SNL" Relevancy Poll.
As you will see, the lower the score, the better. And, again, the rankings represent how often an individual cast member appeared on the show, not an opinion of an individual sketch or character. (In other words: These are not my "favorites," this is a barometer of each cast member's airtime and influence.) Each final score is the average weekly poll ranking of each cast...

Before I saw the film version of "21 Jump Street" a few weeks ago, I highly doubted the comedic ability of Channing Tatum. After, however, my hopes for his "SNL" hosting appearance were raised significantly. But, for whatever reason, "SNL" decided to really focus on Tatum's beefcake status. Put it this way: I saw Channing Tatum with his shirt off not one, not two, but three times. Channing Tatum portrayed a stripper -- twice. We get it: Channing Tatum is a good-looking guy. (Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that it's quite remarkable Tatum somehow portrayed Peyton Manning and Tom Brady during the same show.) On to a very shirtless scorecard ...

Things are going to be looking a little bit different around Saturday Night Live tonight. Not only will the ubiquitous Channing Tatum be on hand to host the show for his first time (musical guest Bon Iver will make his Studio 8H debut as well), but the SNL cast will be short one member tonight. And the rest of the season, for that matter, as we reported on Tuesday that featured player Paul Brittain has exited the cast for good to “to pursue other projects.”

Saturday Night Live is down a cast member. A show insider has confirmed to E! News that Paul Brittain has left SNL after a one-year stint as a featured player and will not be appearing on this weekend's episode hosted by Channing Tatum. Guess this means no more "Sex" Ed. The 34-year-old funnyman joined the late-night comedy series for its 36th season back in September 2010, but was a relatively quiet presence, never moving up to the rank of regular performer. Among Brittain's most memorable characters were Croatian stand-up comic Goran "Funky Boy" Bogdan, Lord Wyndemere and "Sex" Ed Vincent, a sexpert who holds enthusiastic symposiums on the subject. He also did...

Sources close to "Saturday Night Live" have have confirmed to The Huffington Post that Paul Brittain, best known for his characters Lord Wyndemere and "Sex" Ed Vincent, has left "Saturday Night Live."
Brittain made his first "SNL" appearance on September 25, 2010, on a show hosted by Amy Poehler. Brittain made his mark as a lead performer on October 23 when he introduced the character of "Sex" Ed Vincent -- a "sex education educator" who put on awkwardly dry, yet somewhat graphic sex seminars.
His other popular recurring role was as Lord Wyndemere, a fanciful 18th century-type scamp who lives in the present.
From an audience perspective, Brittain's role as a featured player on the show was sporadic. Brittain would sometimes go whole episodes without an appearance, although that isn't entirely uncommon for a second-year featured player.
What is rare is that Brittain would leave the show mid-season. In 1995, Janeane Garafalo left the...

Let it out, Paul Brittain fans. EW broke the news: After spending a little over a year with Saturday Night Live, the featured player has exited the show “to pursue other projects.” Effective immediately, the cast member will no longer appear in any new episodes, which means you definitely won’t see this week’s host Channing Tatum interact with the wonderfully weird Lord Cecil Wyndemere. Thankfully, everyone’s favorite displaced Lord got in one final appearance during the Charles Barkley episode . Watch the moment below in which Brittain’s tiny, whimsical Wyndemere made the NBA giant break:

Paul Brittain has reportedly exited Saturday Night Live. A source close to the actor has told Entertainment Weekly that Brittain "had the opportunity to pursue other projects, and he and the show parted ways amicably". He apparently will not appear on this weekend's edition of Saturday Night Live, which will be hosted by Channing Tatum and feature music guest Bon Iver. A source close to the actor tells EW that Brittain “had the opportunity to pursue other projects, and he and the show parted ways amicably.” The comedian joined the show in September 2010 and performed original characters like “Sex” Ed Vincent as well as impersonations of stars like James Franco (see below).

Last week, I wrote a piece about Taran Killam being the future of "SNL." So of course in the Charles Barkley-hosted episode, which featured 13 segments, Killam was barely seen. I'm kind of kidding when I write this, but I could almost picture Lorne Michaels getting wind of that piece and deciding, "Oh, yeah, 'Future Boy,' enjoy your two minutes of airtime this week." So, yes, sorry about that, Taran. And, with that, away we go to this week's poll...
1. Slick Rick Diehl (Last Week: 14) Brittain's Lord Wyndemere is back! I just love this guy. In my vision of a utopian society, either Lord Wyndemere or "Sex" Ed Vincent would in some way be a part of every single "SNL." Also, with the return of Wyndemere, Brittain officially has his second recurring sketch. Also, "Joann's Announcement" was fairly dead on arrival until Brittain showed up.
2. Ted Hennessey (Last Week:...

Oh, glory be, after more than 13 months, "Sex" Ed Vincent has returned to 'Saturday Night Live.' Funny, back in October of 2010, if I would have had a sneak peak at the upcoming hosts for the next year, yeah, my initial reaction would have been, "Yep, 'Sex' Ed will return during the Buscemi show." Speaking of Buscemi, honestly, I can't remember a thing about the last time he hosted in 1998 (and I watch a lot of 'SNL') - that will not be the case this time around. Buscemi's show was such a solid engagement... that is until, for the second show in a row, an eccentric Kristin Wiig character brought the show to a screeching halt. On to the scorecard!

Steve Buscemi is very aware that he's typecast in weirdo roles, but luckily in recent years he's been able to transition into an offbeat leading man. In the interest of helping others, he dedicated his entire "Saturday Night Live" monologue Dec. 3 to answering questions from other character actors, like Andy Samberg's "Take care of her, bro" bro and Jay Pharaoh's sassy legal thriller judge. Well, he didn't so much answer them as allow them to ask him things.
Either way, the "SNL" writers also embraced his strange vibe, and wrote the respected actor into many a weirdo role in the episode.
Guess what we learned? It worked -- you don't mess with a good thing. That said, not everything can be great. Here's what we thought of the show:

Last season, Emma Stone hosted 'SNL' for the first time, a show that would introduce us to "Sex" Ed Vincent and "Les Jeunes de Paris." For Stone's return visit, "Les Jeunes de Paris" was back for a third time (sadly, "Sex" Ed still isn't back) - in fact, for whatever reason, of the first eight sketches of the night (including the two Update segments), only the Digital Short wasn't a recurring sketch. Even the Spider-Man monologue was a recurring sketch! Regardless, it doesn't matter -- Stone has now proven twice that she's a terrific host. But, after four subpar shows in a row to start the season, could Stone keep the momentum going that started with Charlie Day's show last week? On to the Scorecard!

Egads, are your ears still ringing after this weekend’s Saturday Night Live? For whatever reason, the Russell Brand hosted episode was one of the shoutiest since the days of Chris Farley, which has left my cochlea buzzing for the last few days. It’s sort of a shame, really, because I am normally quite fond of Russell Brand’s work and was excited to see what he would do when adhering to the rules of sketch comedy. His monologue was one of the best in quite a long time, but the rest of the episode was tainted by the sheer volume of his shrill accent. While I still feel that Get Him To The Greek is an underrated work, I fear that this weekend’s hosting duties turned me off the prospect of going to see Arthur*. However, Brand (and the cast’s) general shoutiness was Not the worst part of the episode.

And there you were, thinking that we forgot about this feature! After 2010 closed out in fairly hectic fashion –I proposed to my girlfriend and got stranded as part of the Great Blizzard, among other things — I made sure to clear my entire Sunday to watch and tabulate the results of the last three episodes of SNL: the Paul Rudd/Paul McCartney episode (Dec. 11), the Jeff Bridges/Eminem/Lil Wayne episode (Dec. 18) and, of course, this weekend’s highly rated episode hosted by Jim Carrey with musical guest the Black Keys. Abbreviated reviews for December’s missing episodes will be going up shortly are up (see above), but let’s kick 2011 off, timely style, and start talking about how awesome Jim Carrey is, was, and will always be. It’s fair to say that, after dominating the comedy landscape for much of the nineties, Jim Carrey’s career took a...

There was a time, around the middle of the last decade, when there were few people alive who could stack up against the radiant sexuality of Scarlett Johansson. Between Ghost World, Lost in Translation and Match Point, it seemed as if she would be the kind of husky-voiced siren who would be a silver screen staple for many moons to come. However, over the last five years or so, something shifted and Scarlett lost a significant amount of her luster. So much so, in fact, that she doesn’t even have a project to promote this holiday season which, oddly enough, didn’t proclude SNL‘s bookers from giving her a third chance to host the show. Sadly, as Michelle pointed out this morning, it didn’t exactly go over like hotcakes those awesome looking new pancake/sausage bites from Dunkin’ Donuts. Multiple sketches resulted in her falling back on...

What’s not to like about Emma Stone? The young redhead seems to be one of the most likeable and grounded members of today’s Young Hollywood scene, eschewing arrests and stints in rehab for well-liked turns in films like Superbad, Zombieland and Easy-a. Some might even go as far as to call her the next Anna Faris! However, much like the aforementioned Faris, her first time hosting Saturday Night Live didn’t exactly go as planned. It wasn’t like Stone was a stiff on the level of the dreaded January Jones, but it was clear from the monologue that she going to be a natural in terms of her ability to connect with the audience (Related: Who chose that outfit? She looks like she’s going to her first day of Boring School, not hosting SNL). Stone is neither a stage actress nor a true comedienne, but we...

They should have aired Saturday Night Live in reverse order last night: What started out pretty terribly eventually turned into the second best episode of the season. While host Emma Stone was serviceable, never really taking the lead in any of the sketches in which she appeared, the surprise of the night was the ascent of Paul Brittain (more "Sex" Ed Vincent!) and Taran Killam.
