Gaius Caesar Agustus Germanicus, better known as Caligula, was one of the most notorious leaders in world history. At the beginning of his reign, he reinstated the system of aristocracy that his predecessor had dismantled, declare amnesty, and cut taxes. He also suffered an undiagnosed fever of some kind a few months into his tenure, and emerged from his bedroom seemingly insane. He began insisting that he be worshiped as a god, he married his own sister, and began wasting money on strange extravagances. He staged expensive mock sea battles for his own amusement, and built one...

As December 31st draws closer, it’s time for all those end of year mixes to start hitting the web. We already got the very impressive “50 Shades of Pop” from DJ Earworm, and now it’s Vicetone‘s time to strike, with their roughly 1 hour mix that shows off what the Dutch DJ duo has produced over the last year or so.
The boys have been doing this mix for a couple of years now and each instalment seems to be a big hit with fans. 2015’s edition should be no different, as it gives us a healthy dose of their new material mixed in with some mashups, remixes and even three brand new IDs, which is a very welcome surprise.
2015 was a big one for Vicetone, as it saw the release of several huge originals like “No Way Out,” “Follow Me” and “Angels,” among others. Ruben and Victor continue...

Given her fierce ambition and penchant for playfulness, Ellie Goulding is quite the complex pop songstress.
And in her July 2015 cover story for Elle UK, the “Burn” singer discusses how she dealt with fame at age 23- “When I started out, I couldn't cope with it. I didn't quite know who I was supposed to be. I was never confident in my looks. I hated my chin, my nose, my eyebrows. I was told by people at my record company to watch videos of other girls, like Little Boots, and Elly Jackson from La Roux, and try and look like them. I had panic attacks so bad I couldn't leave my flat; I couldn't bear people looking at me. I would worry that I would never be able to sing because I couldn't even get up. I was also horribly ashamed of myself because I felt like some sort of...

Hype can be a right bitch; just ask Little Boots, or The Twang, or a guy named Joe Lean. But sometimes inane levels of buzz really are valid; just listen to Arctic Monkeys, or The Libertines, or even The Vaccines. Palma Violets, four striplings from South London, have spawned exactly this kind of excitement, after signing to The Libs' (and The Strokes') label Rough Trade and putting out one of the year's effing tunes. We're in the middle of this jammed, suitably shabby room in Brixton for their biggest headline show so far and... wait... they've got a walk-on song?! Most bands don't try that until their second album. Points for ballsiness! The echoey post punk'd rumbling that pours from 'Best of Friends' is stencilled over most of tonight's set; sometimes the guitars (more)...

Little Boots has unveiled the music video for her new single 'Headphones'. The clip has been directed by Bullion Collective. The collaboration with The Knocks is available digitally now and is released as an Ep via 679 on July 16. "The inspiration for the video was partly from the Wim Wenders film Paris Texas and the idea of a peep show revolving around headphones and listening to music as opposed to talking," Little Boots previously said of the promo. "The idea is that everyday characters enter a booth and on listening to the song their extrovert selves appear in the reflection, so the song is a way of releasing their (more)...

It looks like Go On isn't the only NBC sitcom being fast tracked for an early premiere after the Olympics. While The New Normal, starring Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha as a gay couple trying to have a baby hasn't been formally picked up, it's being allowed to staff up for an early launch.
The headlining act for the Summer Olympics opening ceremony is…Duran Duran. One wonders if Adele was busy.
The teen who put a video of himself on YouTube taking a gun to a No on One sign in North Carolina received a visit from police, and has been cited for injury to property, with an investigation to whether he violated firearms laws by shooting the gun in a residential neighborhood. Expect anti-gay forces to name him a martyr in 3-2-1.
Tom Cruise continues to make career choices that I don't expect, signing on to star in the Van Helsing reboot.

Maybe it is a bit reductive to call the dance moves in Little Boots' new video "aerobics"; the three main dancers obviously have some classical training, and we spotted at least one proper pirouette (a double!) and several arabesques. Everyone's turnout is very impressive. Still, the overall feel here is kind of a loosey-goosey "Vogue" routine — don't miss the lurking shoulder-roll shimmy around the 1:13 mark, it's our favorite — and the Calvin Klein party that pops up in the middle gives the whole scene a nineties, sweat-it-out feel. Or maybe it's just the "Single Ladies" video, but with male models and a healthy supply of mind-altering substances. Anyway, it looks fun enough. And random sartorial note: Socks with sandals is apparently still happening (at least in England). Write it down.

Listen to our ten favourite new tracks this week, including Maroon 5, Alexandra Burke, Linkin Park and Little Boots. Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa: 'Payphone' (UK: N/A Us: April 16)
'Moves Like Jagger' was such an international smash that even parents and grandparents were aware of its existence. Big pop hooks and a savvy feature artist were the main draw, so it's not surprising Maroon 5 have continued the formula for their next single 'Payphone'. It may be more mellow than its predecessor, but it still has a whiff of a big future radio hit. Lc Alexandra Burke: 'Let It Go' (out May 27)
Alexandra Burke may have struggled to get radio stations on board with the hectic, Eric Morillo-produced 'Elephant', but she should have little trouble getting DJs to spin her (more)...

Sitting through an awful film is an excruciating experience, especially when you feel compelled to keep going for the sake of critical merit. The whole thing feels like a colonic irrigation that, lets face it, is even more wasteful if you don’t conclude it.
But what is so much worse than that, on so many levels of mental strife, is a film which has a great premise, great potential, but an average or downright poor end product. This is when your desperate pleas change from “this is awful!” to “why is this awful?!” And naturally it’s more torturous because you just know that, with a few more better aligned brain cells or less hangover infused writing sessions, you could be watching something better, good or great even.
Here are a list of films that had everything going for them, and how they failed to reach their heights, or simply fell apart all together.

If anyone can pick a pop culture winner it's the gays, right? Tonight at 10:00pm the Logo channel (our parent company) is airing the 2010 NewNowNext Awards. For those few people left on the planet who aren't familiar with them, these awards are about finding today what will be trending tomorrow. While other awards honor those who have already made it, Nnn Awards sets its sights on brink of fame up-and-comers who are just beginning to be buzzed about.
Logo's Nnn Awards have earned a reputation for calling the trends long before they hit the mainstream. Lady Gaga gave her first televised performance here, a year before she won at the VMAs and wowed the world. True Blood was showered with kudos long before it won an Emmy. And Twilight was nominated for an Nnn Award before it even hit the silver screen.

Kate Nash had admitted that she believes the current crop of UK female artists is having a damaging effect on the music industry. Nash, who recently released her second studio album My Best Friend Is You, hit back at female singer-songwriters such as Pixie Lott and Little Boots because they create a false impression of indie music. She explained to Beatweek: "I actually think it's so damaging when I hear people saying, 'Oh it's so great - all these young female artists are doing so well'. "I'm like, 'No, because big manufactured labels think that's what sells'. (more)...

Hailing from the same school of self-aware artifice as Lady Gaga and Little Boots, Marina Diamandis’ debut as Marina And The Diamonds benefits—and suffers—from the same irony-laden emptiness. Of course, that “famous for being famous” moxie has yielded triumph for some; the trouble is, Diamandis isn’t entirely sure what she wants to be famous for ...

Boot it to the curb British electro-popper Little Boots’ full-length U.S. debut, Hands, falls flat, but it’s not for lack of trying. On paper, so much about it seems promising: There’s a collaboration with Lady Gaga producer RedOne (“Remedy”); a duet with Human League vocalist Philip Oakey (“Symmetry”), a sly nod to Boots’ obvious New Wave influences; even a clever song inspired by a Sylvia Plath poem (“Mathematics”), for the literary types. Alas, the best laid plans of musicians and producers can still add up to a boring album....

Comedy darling Alison Brie and Donna Karan at Dkny's Valentine's Day show. Photograph by PatrickMcMullan.com. Rushing downtown to attend the Dkny show, I turned up the volume on a particularly funny clip of NBC's Community and laughed as Spanish teacher Señor Chang (Ken Jeong) pulled overachieving brown-noser Annie (Alison Brie) outside the classroom, desk and all. Still chuckling as I paid the cab fare and rushed past the Dkny hot cocoa stand, I scurried inside to find my seat and scan for celebrities. Guess who was there? Alison Brie! I just had to ask the hilarious actress if she'd seen herself on Taxi TV. “I haven’t but I was hoping to," she said, "My producer is here and my co-star Donald Glover is here. He told me they saw me and I thought, ‘Well, that’s trippy.’” The Los Angeles-based actress was only in town for a two-day trip so,...

Los Angeles — Grammy-winning producer RedOne has worked with a slew of top artists, including Akon, Shakira, Little Boots, Sean Kingston and, most notably, Lady Gaga. But when he received a phone call from Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, asking him to produce a remake of "We Are the World," he was in complete shock.
"I was like, 'Oh my God!' " RedOne told MTV News at the Henson Studios, where the track was recorded last week. "This is Lionel and Quincy, you know, the fathers of music, of hits, of music, of charity, of everything. It was big. So that night, before I started working on it, I had nightmares about the whole track. 'They didn't like it.
