Alexa Whiteside, an entertainment industry attorney with experience encompassing television, feature films streaming, podcasts, radio, book publishing, and live events, currently serves as the Vice President, Business Affairs at Hearst Media Production Group in Charlotte, NC.
Whiteside transitioned from HMPG from Ramo Law PC, a Beverly Hills and New York-based entertainment law firm, where she was a senior associate attorney, providing general outside counsel and business affairs guidance for a wide array of clients.
Among her duties at Ramo Law and prior employers, Whiteside served as general counsel for entertainment and media companies in a wide variety of film, podcast, television, and other media projects on various platforms including A&E Television Networks, Netflix, Peacock, Discovery+, Freevee, and CNN and for organizations such as Sony Pictures, Hartbeat, Hello Sunshine, Monarch Media, Hybrid, and the Sundance Institute.
Whiteside presently serves as Chair of the Sports and Entertainment Law Section (2023-2024 term) of the North Carolina Bar Association and co-chair of the Pro-Bono Awards Sub-Committee of the North Carolina Bar Foundation (2023-2024 term) and previously served as the secretary of the 501(c)3 organization Professional Entertainment Female Attorneys (2021-2023 term). Some of her prior speaking engagements have included the National Black Law Student Association's Western Regional Division, New York University, the Berkshire International Film Festival Filmmakers Summit, and the Mecklenburg County Bar Association in Charlotte.
A Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude graduate of Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, Whiteside holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, film and television production, from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she has had the pleasure of occasionally visiting as a guest lecturer and also holds an advanced business certificate from New York's Columbia University.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Whiteside was a New York City filmmaker and holds credits as an independent producer, unit production manager, and casting associate, among other roles.
She is an avid fantasy book reader and RPG gamer and can often be found on the weekends at a NASCAR race where a number of her friends and colleagues work in the pit crews or behind the wheel.
HMPG's current program portfolio comprises more than 30 series and hundreds of hours of content annually on leading broadcast networks and station groups and on connected TV and streaming platforms. It has a library of more than 4,000 hours of programming and its content can be found in 97 countries.
