The upcoming I'm Vlogging Here documentary won't be the only film to delve into the lives of professional YouTubers. Creator Dan Dobi has released Please Subscribe, where he tracks the lives of eight popular YouTubers as they make their videos, interact with their fans, and discuss the ways in which online video has changed their lives. Please Subscribe tracks eight different creators, each one with his or her own path to success. The collection of stars--Daily Grace, Dan Brown, Hannah Hart, Mitchell Davis, MysteryGuitarMan, SeaNanners, TheWillofDC, and Wheezy Waiter--all have unique perspectives, if the documentary's trailer is to be believed. Do I really and/or only have to pay $5 to watch this? What’s the future of viewer-supported online video entertainment? What happened to the Radiohead Pay-What-You-Want method of entertainment ownership and consumption? How can I use this direct-to-consumer model to my professional, artistic, and financial benefit? The Tubefilter Meetup that I wrote about a week ago is finally here. Tonight, big players in the pay-to-view game will gather at Busby's East in La to discuss the format and its increasing popularity. Many of you have already RSVPed, but for everybody else, there's still time to reserve a spot at the Meetup by grabbing a ticket here. Tubefilter's own Drew Baldwin will serve as the moderator. All of the panelists are involved in Chill's recently launched Chill Direct pay-to-view platform; Dobi and Urie are among the service's initial offerings, while Norgard obviously helped create it. If you can tear yourself away from the Maria Bamford special, they should have plenty to say about the online video industry's...
