Some of you may be asking yourselves, “What’s The Guyver?” But, I suspect if you were a kid in the nineties, you know Exactly who and what The Guyver is.
When I was growing up, my parents subscribed to the Canadian version of HBO, which was called The Movie Network. The mixture of programming on the channel was eclectic, to say the least, and the blockbusters were padded out with many direct-to-video tiles, usually in the erotic thriller or action genres. Folks like Shannon Tweed, Lorenzo Lamas, and others became pretty common to see pop up on the channel. Occasionally, one of these movies would feature a bigger star and sometimes turn out to be a real gem.
With that in mind, I remember vividly as a kid tuning in to watch The Guyver because it was promoted as a superhero movie starring Mark Hamill. While that’s maybe “partly” true,...

The official YouTube channel for voice actor/singer Nana Mizuki has started streaming a music video for her latest 42nd CD single song, "Adrenalized." The song, whose lyrics were written by herself, is now featured as the opening theme for the spring 2024 TV anime Highspeed Étoile , in which she is also cast as one of its main characters, Alice Summerwood. Mizuki described the song on her blog's April 6 entry : "It is a cheer digital rock song (laughs) in the typical Mizuki style, with a melody and lyrics that condenses the elation and tension of facing a race, and the indomitable spirit and dynamism to keep moving forward despite the struggle in a new environment. A perfect song for a new life. Please listen to it a lot!" The music video was filmed in a special area at Fuji Speedway, one of the most famous racing circuits in Japan, as...

Crescent Moon Marching is Available
Through The Azuki App on Android & iPhone
A rather sublime music-driven manga, Hamachi Yamada's “Crescent Moon March” digs a bit beyond just the love of music offering an endearing story of a youth, Mizuki, finding her path in life after years of struggling. It is through Mizuku that the reader gets insight into the niche culture and music of a marching band, with its loud and vigorous performances in contrast to the shy girl struggling with her confidence. Consequently, the manga beautifully touches on...

Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, which features only Four(!) matches this week and a show that only runs twenty-two(!) minutes. Once again we’ve got Elevation regulars Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary. So let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Maki Itoh def. Ashley D’Amboise
My Thoughts: Always good to see Ashley D’Amboise in an Aew ring and on top of that we get the legend that is Maki Itoh in this match too! If I’m honest this one felt a little “off” – which can often occur when styles clash or aren’t as compatible as they could be.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Jericho Appreciation Society def. Mike Magnum, Jack Tomlinson, and Zack Clayton
My Thoughts: I’ve got to be honest, the Jas is getting really old now. And no disrespect to the trio involved in this match...

We all have expectations for certain kinds of stories – a romance will have two characters fall in love and get together by the end, a mystery will have at least one murder to be solved, an epic fantasy will have un’usual apo’strophes in the middle of words.
The first expectation is that they will be stories, formed into a narrative with beginning and end, and preferably a middle as well. But that is not always true.
Tono Monogatari is a collection of folktales, in the first instance. An amateur folklorist collected them, a hundred-plus years ago, mostly from one tale-teller in one Japanese region, gathering all the bits of lore that one guy could tell him about the yokai and kami of the area.
And a lot of of them are not stories. There’s some “oh, yeah, one time this guy saw something!” or “and he was walking,...
