Joe (Nick Robinson) is having a rough summer. His older sister Heather (Alison Brie) has left home, leaving him alone with his widower father (Nick Offerman) who is still struggling to move on from the death of his wife. When a heated game of Monopoly destroys their family game night, Joe decides it is time for him to move out and become his own man. He enlists his best friend Patrick, (Gabriel Basso) who is feeling smothered by his well-meaning but slightly overbearing parents, and odd duck Biaggio (Moises Arias). “What is this kid doing here?” Patrick asks, and Joe replies, “I'm afraid to tell him to leave. I don't know what he's capable of.” Together, they build a ramshackle house out in the woods and take an oath to boil their own water, kill their own food, and learn to be their own man. They hope for an escape from the real world,...

Summer is now, sadly, a distant memory and we'll be honest—we're hard pressed to favorably remember anything from the multiplex. But luckily for those who were a bit more adventurous and sought out movies that weren't sequels, prequels or CGI fests, there was still some small treasures to be found. One that certainly left an impression was the feature debut from Jordan Vogt-Roberts, "The Kings Of Summer." If somehow you didn't manage to catch the film, the good news is you've got a chance to now, and happily we can help you out. Led by the youthful trio of Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso and Moises Arias, and supported by an ace roster of players that include Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Megan Mullally, the film chronicles three friends who run away from the various problems at home, and spend the summer in a house they build far out in the words.

Three teenagers - Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and their odd buddy Biaggio (Moises Arias) - escape the claustrophobia of their respective homes and head off into the woods to spend the summer building a wooden house while living off the land. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts' oddball coming-of-age comedy paints a Wes Anderson-esque portrait of frustrated adolescence with a scene-stealing performance from Nick Offerman as an ultra-sarcastic dad.

After the premiere screening at Sundance of his wonderful debut feature “Kings Of Summer,” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts – responsible for the short “Successful Alcoholics” and a veteran of “Funny Or Die Presents…” – told the audience his influences for his first feature included early Amblin films like “The Goonies” with “elements of [Terrence] Malick,” and most surprisingly, “Bad Boys II.” The filmmaker had to clarify that he was not, in fact, joking about Michael Bay’s destruction opus, and his Twitter bio proves it (“Really into Michael Bay”). And so, from these wonderfully disparate influences we have “Kings Of Summer,” a crockpot of comedy and coming-of-age film without a trace of irony. The film opens with three boys in the woods, two of them rhythmically drumming on a giant pipe while the third dances like a maniac on top of it. Cut to: one month earlier and we’re introduced to two of these boys,...

Ansel Elgort is about to blow up. According to Entertainment Weekly writer Sara Vilkomerson, Elgort has been offered the male lead in "The Fault In Our Stars" opposite previously cast Shailene Woodley. If hired, Elgort will play Gus in the adaptation of John Green's best-selling young adult drama. Josh Boone (the upcoming film "Stuck in Love") is set to direct.
Elgort has yet to make his feature film debut, but he's already landed some high profile parts. He's a co-star in the upcoming remake of "Carrie" and also stars alongside Woodley in the adaptation of Ya sensation "Divergent." (In a somewhat icky twist, Elgort plays Woodley's brother in "Divergent"; their relationship in "The Fault In Our Stars" is of the romantic variety.)
Released in January of 2012, "The Fault In Our Stars" focuses on Hazel (Woodley), a 16-year-old suffering from cancer who forms a relationship with Augustus (Elgort), a fellow cancer survivor.

It was a longer process than we had anticipated, but post Sundance, Jordan M. Smith, Nicholas Bell and I weighed in on the best of the fest (tomorrow we launch our Top 20 New Voices) and after defining what constitutes a “new face”, we ranked our top performances from relatively new folk, pushed into the forefront of their films and within the sphere of independent cinema. Here are our Top 1o New Faces for Sundance 2013.
#10. Gina Piersanti (It Felt Like Love)
NYC-based indie film casting folk will take notice if Eliza Hittman’s gem of a debut film breaks out beyond the film fest circuit. Not unlike the faces we found in Larry Clark’s Kids, newbie teenage actress Gina Piersanti will be the latest poster-child of innocence lost. Not taking into consideration the films that were featured in Sundance’s Spotlight section/sidebar which I’ve previously seen on the festival circuit and that would easily place within this top five (Pablo Larrain’s No (Directors’ Fortnight – Cannes) and the Tiff viewed Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell), my fivesome was further complicated by the fact that eight films received the same grade at the number three position. The tie-breaking device I used was simplified once I factored in what I’d be most pressed to see for a repeat viewing. So worthy mentions go to Alexandre Moors’ Blue Caprice for his gripping visual and narratively sturdy approach to fact-based tale that could have been detailed in a multitude of ill-conceived manners, to Andrew Dosumnu’s Mother Of George for sensually tackling rifts within a family without clutter and with rooted perfs from Danai Gurira and Isaach De Bankole,...

Sharp-tongued Joe Toy (Nick Robinson) is frustrated with his life – his overbearing father (Nick Offerman) does not understand him, his older sister Heather (Alison Brie) no longer lives at home, and he cannot seem to get a minute to himself without someone barging in on him. Joe is not alone in his frustration, his best friend Patrick (Gabriel Basso) is also feeling trapped with two helicopter parents (Megan Mullally and Marc Evan Jackson) who are constantly bombarding him with inane questions. The two boys want (need) to get out, and Joe comes up with a plan to let them do just that. After escaping a party that was suddenly broken up, Joe finds himself lost in the woods alongside the very strange (but insanely funny) Biaggio (Moises Arias.) Cricket Australia is positioning January’s one-day internationals as ‘The summer’s biggest dress-up party’ in a new campaign by Gpy&R Melbourne.

Julian Dunne, senior manager of marketing for Cricket Australia, said: “The fans told us that the Commonwealth Bank Series is as much about what happens in the crowd as on the pitch. Over recent seasons we have seen some incredible dress ups and the event is becoming more and more social. This season we have dialed it up considerably with global acts such as Basement Jaxx, huge prizes and lots of great entertainment in and around the venues. The new campaign captures this nicely.”

If you ever managed to see Shane Carruth‘s Primer, you’re probably a very confused person. That’s to say, the 2004 time-travel flick strove to be as realistic as possible, and by realistic, we mean completely mind-boggling. Saying that, Primer remains one of the most intriguing movies of the past decade (even if we still can’t figure it out), which means that the promise of a second movie from writer/director Curruth is something to be excited about.

“Come on mate”
Cricket Australia has launched an ad campaign ahead of the Vodafone Test Series with Sri Lanka and South Africa, which begins next month.
Taglined ‘United by the moment’, the ad begins with Australian captain Michael Clarke encouraging his bowler with the words, “Come on mate”.
Julian Dunne, Cricket Australia’s senior marketing manager said: “Most fans who love cricket can remember a particular moment that ingratiated them with the game. Cricket has so much history, tradition and many moments that have helped shape our national psyche, from Bradman’s last innings to Warne’s 700th wicket to Michael Clarke’s 329 last season at the Scg. These moments become part of Australian folklore, they are moments you don’t want to miss and they help unite the country.”
Ben Coulson, Ecd at Gpy&R Melbourne, the agency behind the ad, said: “International Test Cricket has a wonderful way of engaging our national pride.

After first landing on The Black List way back in 2009, Chris Galletta’s debut screenplay "Toy's House" is finally moving in front of cameras this month under the direction of Jordan Vogt-Roberts (the man behind the “Successful Alcoholics” short film) in his feature film debut. Despite shooting being set to begin next month in Cleveland, we only first heard of the project a couple of weeks ago thanks to Ron Swanson himself, Nick Offerman. And now we have a better idea of the cast that’s been rounded up for the movie.
The film follows Joe Toy and his buddies who tire of their parents’ overbearing ways and decide to build their own makeshift house in the woods and live off the land, away from the restraints of the lives they have come to know. It certainly sounds like fertile ground for exploring what it means to grow up; a...

Our first news on Toy’s House came from none other than Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman — funny how these things pan out sometimes — only, the news wasn’t all that detailed in the first place. Now, Variety have filled us in by reporting that Alison Brie, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Megan Mullally, and Erin Moriarty (The Watch) will be among the film’s adult leads, while Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias have been assigned to play the kids at its center. Chris Galletta has written the film, on which Jordan Vogt-Roberts will make his debut.

TV vet Joey Lawrence returns tonight with the season 2 premiere of the ABC Family hit Melissa & Joey, which costars fellow longtime actor Melissa Joan Hart. The show follows local politician Mel (Hart) as she struggles to raise her neice and nephew (Taylor Spreitler, Nick Robinson) after their parents end up behind bars. She hires friend and "manny" Joe (Lawrence) to help out around the house. And as you can imagine, craziness ensues.
When we left off last season, Joe was gearing up to move out just as he and Mel shared a more-than-friendly kiss. We caught up with Joey to get deets on the new season and more! And we gotta say, it's a fresh of breath air to talk to an actor who is both professional and doesn't take himself too seriously. Check it out below!

Part of the ever-expanding trend toward sitcoms that are in many ways throwbacks to the style and sensibilities of the powerhouses of the eighties and nineties, Melissa & Joey impressed with its first season, and its time for more.
Much as it was something of a surprise to me, this show (along with several others in the category, such as the original TV Land programs) took off, and deservedly so. There’s something about the low-key, quip-fueled comedy that fell out of favor over the last couple of decades, and it’s interesting to see it making such a strong comeback.
Melissa & Joey, though the stars are occasionally overboard with their antagonism, delivered through its entire first season, and tonight’s episodes are just as good.
Our home is in shambles, as work progresses at a snail’s pace, and the entire household is feeling the strain of the renovation project.

We can't get enough of our vampires. Whether you're into the blood-dripping fangs of Stake Land; the slutty, sultry ones from "True Blood" or the sparkly kind from Twilight, we all love our vamps. Now there's new info on how Bram Stoker got the whole thing going.
A new version of Dracula will soon be released and this one will contain images and details from Stoker's actual 1897 publishing deal. Apparently, aside from being able to spin a wicked vampire tale, Stoker was pretty savvy at the bargaining table as well. The new book reveals that Stoker landed a deal which granted him 20 percent royalties on Dracula. Anyone who's in the publishing business will tell you that's one helluva deal…about double what an author could get by today's standards. Although he never practiced law, Stoker studied it, giving himself the skills to work out this honey of a deal.

The late Christopher Hitchens enjoyed telling the story of meeting Margaret Thatcher in the late 70s, back when, as Mark Dery puts it in a cracking piece I'll get to in a moment, "the post-9/11 libertarian hawk and vorpal swordsman of the New Atheism was lefter than he is now." (Dery was writing in the summer of 2010.) Hitchens so enjoyed the telling and the retelling that the story eventually took on the form of a well-rehearsed stand-up routine. For comparison, you can watch a relatively short early draft here, but trust me, you'll want to take the five-and-a-half minutes for this one:
For Mark Dery, the crucial question is, "Why does a certain sort of Englishman squirm with delight at the thought of being taken in hand and sharply disciplined by Milton Friedman's idea of Emma Peel? And the flip answer is: the English Vice, French prostitutes' wry term...

Several of our writers at HeyUGuys, including our two editors, have young children, and therefore a legitimate excuse to watch Children’s TV. I, on the other hand, don’t. On the other hand, I am barely employed (and barely employable), so am far better versed in the ins-and-outs of children’s TV than I have any right to be. Consequently, when I was asked to head to the Park Lane Hilton to film my far more respectable colleague Paris Davis as she interviewed the arrivals on the red carpet, I leapt at the chance. After all, it’s not every day I get to be in the same room as Dick and Dom, Mr Tumble and Helen Skelton. Certainly not all at once.
