An Aboriginal demon steps in for the real-life enduring trauma of Australia’s “Stolen Generations” in Jon Bell’s debut feature, The Moogai. Government sponsored assimilation programs ripped tens of thousands of Aboriginal children from their families to be placed with white families in Australia in the first half of the 20th century, leading to widespread decimation of cultural identities among the indigenous population. The Moogai substitutes a child-stealing demon for the government in what could have been a powerful examination of the tragedy and its lingering effects on Aboriginal people, but instead falls flat as it forgoes tension while ultimately spending too much effort saying the quiet part loud. From its opening landscape shot of a forest complete with moody voice on top, The Retaliators looks very good indeed. There is definitely an energy reminiscent of a heavy metal music video here, in both sound and visuals, but it works well with the theme and the tone of the movie. Directed by Samuel Gonzalez Jr. and Bridget Smith and penned by the team of Darren Geare and Jeff Allen Geare, this is a good old revenge flick and boy-oh-boy do I enjoy a revenge flick.
There is something very bitterly precise about this, something that looks you in the eye and doesn’t look away, a solid sledgehammer to the face in the guise of vengeance.

It took till season 9 of “The Masked Singer” but we’ve finally got a costume that features five performers: the California Roll. They took to the stage on March 1 to deliver a soaring cover of the hit “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga. After Polar Bear lost the audience vote and was revealed to be rapper Grandmaster Flash, California Roll was pitted in a Battle Royale with Medusa.
Each put their own spin on the classic tune “Uptown Girl” by Billie Joel. Medusa delivered a traditional take on the tune while California Roll turned it into a haunting ballad. After Medusa won the vote, we thought this was the last we’d see of California Roll but Nicole Scherzinger sounded the Ding Dong bell and saved them.
We’ve been rewatching both of these performances and have all your “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is California...

*full disclosure: a Blu-ray screener of this film was provided by Artsploitation Films. Director/writer: Craig Anderson. Cast: Dee Wallace, Sarah Bishop, Geoff Morrell, Janis McGavin and David Collins. Red Christmas is a no-budget horror feature from first time feature film director Craig Anderson. Anderson even admits that most actors were not even paid for their roles, in the film's commentary. Just released by Artsploitation Films, Anderson brings a family tragedy to the screen, with his interesting characters. All of the characters are multi-dimensional here. Though, the film's plot plods slowly along through the film's mid-point. Here, the focus is on dispatching a few of the characters, in gruesome ways. The film tackles a difficult subject, abortion. The message is convoluted thanks to the dark humour. But, the film does show that abortion does have consequences as seen in the film's high body count and disturbing images. Overall, Red Christmas...

Red Christmas is the latest festive horror which has been produced by, and stars, Dee Wallace. The film continues in the traditional bloody footsteps of the Christmas slasher genre, although writer and director Craig Anderson takes a lot of time to really develop the characters, giving the film a bit more depth than just your normal hack and slash.
Red Christmas begins in an abortion clinic, with a woman who is undergoing an abortion. During the procedure a bomb is detonated, causing panic and confusion as everyone tries to evacuate. Acting quickly, the removed foetus is dumped into a biohazard bucket which is kicked aside as everyone begins to leave. Unbeknownst to them the baby is found by the bomber,...

"It's in the oven, presents in 15 minutes!" Artsploitation Films has debuted the official trailer for a holiday horror movie titled Red Christmas, from writer/director Craig Anderson. The films stars Dee Wallace, who also produced, as a mother who must protect her family on Christmas Day from a demented stranger. The cast includes Geoff Morrell, David Collins, Sarah Bishop, Janis McGavin, Gerard Odwyer, and Sam Campbell. This looks more like an awkward comedic Christmas version of You're Next than the other holiday horror Krampus. The final kill from this trailer is totally gnarly, not sure if that's a good thing. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Craig Anderson's Red Christmas, direct from YouTube: A mother (Dee Wallace) must protect her family on Christmas Day from a demented stranger who is hell-bent on tearing them apart. Red Christmas is both written and directed by Australian actor-filmmaker Craig Anderson, making his...

Nothing gets my jollies jostled like a good holiday horror flick, but Red Christmas falls short of being the next killer yuletide classic. Twisted ideologies are present – along with an aggressive socio-political message (like most good B-Movies carry) – yet execution is more “ho-hum” than “Ho Ho Ho!” There’s surely a demented likability to this Australian family vacation gone awry, but this is a low, Low-budget affair – and it shows. In the cinematography, performances and special effects, it definitely, definitely shows.
Dee Wallace stars as a proud mother named Diane, whose only wish is for all of her closest family to gather and celebrate Christmas together (a wish that’s granted). There’s predictable sisterly banter (Sarah Bishop as Suzy, Janis McGavin as Ginny), drunken silliness, delectable food, plus Uncle Joe (Geoff Morrell) double-fisting his flask and a rolled joint. All in all, it’s a fairly expected holiday party – until a cloaked,...

They're an all-female comedy team called Skit Box. It's hard to tell if the ensemble's name is just a happy coincidence or an intentional play on words. Co-star Sarah Bishop dishes out the definitive answer. "It's cheeky but it sums up exactly what we're about: female comedy skits." Well played, Skit Box...but we see what you did there.
