Ready to feel old? Minecraft just turned 15.
The top-selling sandbox title has reshaped its industry over the past 15 years, and Twitch is celebrating the game’s ongoing influence. It is paying homage to Minecraft‘s “milestone moment” with multiple activations, including a shelf on the Twitch homepage and a pair of in-game rewards.
Visitors to Twitch who engage with the shelf will be able to dive further into Minecraft mania on the game’s official Twitch hub, where creators will host special streams throughout the month of May. By visiting streamer channels within the Minecraft category and purchasing Subscriptions, Twitch viewers will receive a limited-time “Glitch Mask” giveaway. If they’d like to pair that face covering with a “Purple Heart Cape,” all they need to do is tune into a qualifying streamer for at least 15 minutes.
The end of May will bring more goodies to Twitch’s Minecraft community.

Harry J. Pappas, who presided over more than 30 TV stations as the CEO of what was the largest privately held broadcasting company in the U.S. in terms of household coverage, died April 24 in Reno, Nevada, his niece announced. He was 78.
Under his watch, Pappas Telecasting stations Kmph-tv in Fresno, California; Whns-tv in Greenville, South Carolina; and Kptm-tv in Omaha, Nebraska, became affiliates of the new Fox network starting in the late 1980s. Other Pappas stations would join The WB and The CW Network lineup in the mid-’90s.
A member of Broadcasting & Cable’s Hall of Fame, Pappas also is said to have come up with the idea for the Fox Children’s Network.
The youngest of four kids, Pappas was born on March 14, 1946, to Greek immigrants, Katherine and John, in Modesto, California. His older twin brothers, Pete and Mike, hosted a local two-hour radio show that aired six nights a week.

Tik Tok may be a major source of news for people under 30, but the ByteDance-owned social media platform has today been accused of living in the 1950s and worse when it comes to women in the workplace.
The social media platform and its chairman Lidong Zhang has “a stereotypical view of the way women should behave” and punishes them if they don’t conform to that “stereotypical gender mold,” former marketing executive Katie Puris alleges in a sex discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court in New York .
In fact, Puris and her Wignor attorneys make those allegations very bluntly.
“After Ms. Puris—one of the most senior female executives in the United States—was invited to attend and participate in bi-weekly meetings with Lidong Zhang, the Chairman of ByteDance, she was subjected to disparate treatment and ultimately unlawfully terminated because Lidong Zhang and other corporate executives determined that Ms.

V Pappas has decided on their next move. The former Chief Operating Officer at TikTok has joined the board at Simon & Schuster as the publisher looks to take advantage of the burgeoning #BookTok community.
Pappas is one of six members of Simon & Schuster’s board of directors. The publisher has revamped its top-level structure since its acquisition by private equity firm Kkr. The $1.62 billion deal closed in October 2023. Three Kkr representatives will sit on the Simon & Schuster board, alongside Pappas, ex-Penguin Random House U.S. CEO Madeline McIntosh, and Disney vet Kareem Daniel.
“This board is going to help us be the pre-eminent publisher,” said Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp. “We have aspirations to grow. We have aspirations to be the first choice for authors. And I think this board really gives us a window into how people throughout the media landscape are thinking about how books fit into the world.

Simon & Schuster, which Paramount Global recently sold to investment giant Kkr, has set a new board that include former top Disney exec Kareem Daniel and former TikTok COO V Pappas “as “it embarks on its journey as an independent standalone publisher,” said CEO Jonathan Karp.
Veteran publishing executive and investor Richard Sarnoff, chairman of media within Kkr’s Americas private equity business, will serve as board chairman. Other directors include Kkr executives Ted Oberwager and Chresten Knaff, and Madeline McIntosh, the former CEO of Penguin Random House U.S.

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” may be heading into its final season, but fans of the sci-fi phenomenon needn’t despair. A new Hawkins-set adventure, “The First Shadow,” is just beginning on London’s West End.
“The First Shadow” takes fans back in time to Hawkins High in 1959, before Jim Hopper (Oscar Lloyd) took in a strange child called Eleven, Joyce Maldonado’s (Isabella Pappas) son went missing and Bob Newby (Christopher Buckley) was, well, mauled to death by Demodogs. As the series’ signature ’80s neon and synthesizers transform into leather and rock ’n’ roll, the play (which starts previews on Friday before opening on Dec. 14) promises to immerse audiences even deeper into the mysterious world of “Stranger Things,” thanks to masterful special effects.
“It’s like being in a fucking action film — like being in an episode of ‘Stranger Things,’ but you’re doing it live every night,” Lloyd tells Variety.

Changes are coming to TikTok‘s internal structure. A report in The Information discusses the video app’s reorganization of its operations division, which includes its creator and content teams.
According to The Information, the reorganization will affect “hundreds of operations staff,” who will be divided across three focuses: Creators, content strategy/policy, and publishers. Under the former TikTok COO, V Pappas, the operations unit included different divisions, such as “marketing and distribution” and “creators and content partnerships.”
Pappas left the COO position in June 2023, nine months after they endured a grilling in front of the U.S. Congress. To replace its outgoing Chief Operating Officer, TikTok turned to its Chief of Staff, Adam Presser.
As COO, Presser has initiated a structural shift in order to make TikTok’s operations more efficient. “Our current structure has not allowed our teams to reach our full potential,” Presser wrote in a note viewed by The Information.

It’s hard to believe today, after Speed and four Matrix movies, and four John Wick movies, but there
was a time when Keanu Reeves was not considered viable as an action star, especially after his portrayal
of lovable time-traveling doofus Ted Theodore Logan in Bill & Ted’S Excellent Adventure.
But that perception radically changed in 1991 with the adrenaline extravaganza Point Break, which
featured Reeves as an FBI agent hot on the trail of some bank-robbing surfers led by Patrick Swayze. But how exactly did this preposterous combination ever reach the beach? Grab your board and catch a wave as we find out Wtf Happened to this movie!
The idea for Point Break first surfaced in the mind of filmmaker Rick King [The Killing Time] after he
saw a newspaper article declaring Los Angeles as the bank-robbing capital of America thanks to the
getaway convenience provided by the city’s numerous freeways.

San Francisco, June 23 (Ians) V, Pappas, TikTok’s chief operating officer (COO), has resigned after nearly five years at the Chinese short-video making app to “refocus” on her “entrepreneurial passions”.
Pappas tweeted on Thursday, “After nearly 5 years at TikTok I am stepping down as COO. To our amazing community of creators, employees and people who have made TikTok ‘the last sunny spot on the internet’, it has been an absolute privilege to serve you all and to be a part of this once in a lifetime journey.”
In a note to all Twitter employees, she said, “Five years ago when I was first approached by TikTok, I was incredibly inspired by the product vision to be a new mobile-first video experience that serves as a canvas, bridge and window for everyone.”
“The pitch was to take on a role to transform and grow the product and broaden its appeal through developing diverse communities and content.

TikTok’s chief operating officer, V. Pappas, is stepping down as part of a major leadership shake-up at the social media giant, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew told staff Thursday.

“It isn’t hard to see why audiences have fallen in love with the villainous Madden family,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “Despite a penchant for utilizing their superpowers in everyday life, Amy and family ultimately care about and support one another. Even though life can be messy, ridiculous, and sometimes frightening, the Maddens demonstrate the (super)power of family and togetherness.”

Minecraft maven Logdotzip has signed with Studio71.
The longtime gaming YouTuber (real name: Tyler Pappas) runs a total of eight channels that together have more than 9 million subscribers and generate over 100 million monthly views.
Studio71 says it has “identified Logdotzip as a brand safe channel that will provide a massive platform of highly engaged consumers for premium advertisers as well as added distribution opportunities.”
Those “distribution opportunities” it’s referring to are hopes that it’ll help expand the reach of Pappas’ content by porting it YouTube to platforms like Roku and Pluto TV.
Matt Barker, Studio71’s VP of talent partnerships and relations, led the signing. Aaron Simonoff, the company’s director of gaming, will be Pappas’ manager.
“Logdotzip is an icon within the Minecraft YouTube community and a phenomenal addition to Studio71’s ever-growing roster of gaming talent,” Simonoff says. “We look forward to helping him build out...
