While there are many ways to write certain characters off the show when the actors are done playing them, there is always the most shocking and heartbreaking option of killing them off. Throughout its two-decade run, NCIS has seen many beloved characters go, as well as some deaths.
Here are 10 of the character deaths that hit viewers the hardest, no matter how big or small their role was within the show.
Ned Dorneget (Matt Jones)
There's nothing more devastating than a mother having to bury her own child, but even more terrifying is a mother having to take the investigation of her son's death into her own hands. Murdered in an explosion in Cairo after saving dozens of people, Ned was avenged by the team and his mother, CIA officer Joanna Teague.
Michelle Lee (Liza Lapira)
This character was one of the most controversial, not fitting into either the "villain" or "hero" category.

NCIS fans can find some solace in the fact that when the CBS drama returns from its six-week holiday break, it will deliver a double-header that brings back a familiar face and then resolves an ongoing mystery.
CBS has revealed that when NCIS resumes Season 18 on Tuesday, Jan. 19, the first episode — titled “Sunburn” and directed by cast member Rocky Carroll — turns McGee and his wife Delilah’s Bahamian vacation into a high-stakes mission when a case the team is tracking (of a dead escape room manager) has ties to the island they’re on. Chicago – The topic of cancer is rarely heroic, and as we know mostly concludes tragically. But the new teen comedy “Hope Springs Eternal” turns the Big C on its ear, and features up-and-coming young actor Mia Rose Frampton to take it on. The film is light and breezy, with nods to John Hughes, absurdist teen indoctrinations and the celebration of music in life.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Written with a nice light balance by Stephanie Mickus (her debut) and directed by Chicagoan Jack C. Newell, “Hope Springs Eternal” is tight storytelling and brisk comedy. Frampton keeps it alive with her expressive optimism in the main role, and is able to handle both the light and darkness of the “C” without being maudlin. The cast is top drawer and seems to be having a good time… the highlight being a Hughes-like “mean girl” coterie who have a habit of dressing alike. This is a great cheer-us-up film,...

Reba McEntire's last sitcom, Reba, ran for six seasons on the WB and CW networks. Will Malibu Country, her new TV series, last as long or will it be quickly cancelled instead? Is it even worth watching?
Malibu Country revolves around the wife (Reba McEntire) of a country music star. After catching he's caught cheating, she moves the rest of her family from Nashville to the beaches of Malibu. As Reba tries to pick up her own singing career, the family discovers that sunny California is a very different world. The sitcom also stars Lily Tomlin, Sara Rue, Juliette Angelo, Justin Prentice, Hudson Thames, and Jai Rodriguez.
Does that sound like a hit sitcom? Here's what some of the critics are saying:

Reba McEntire's back, and ABC's got her.
It's hard, if not downright impossible, to challenge country music icon McEntire's sense of what her loyal and large fan base wants: She had a six-season run with her WB/CW comedy "Reba" (still seen in repeats on both ABC Family and Country Music Television), and as she returns to weekly television, she's adopting a familiar-feeling character and premise.
Premiering Friday, Nov. 2, "Malibu Country" casts her as a once-major singing star who decides to relocate from Nashville to Southern California and salvage her career after her marriage falls apart. As on "Reba," the central figure has teen children (Justin Prentice, Juliette Angelo) ... with added concerns posed by her own sassy mother, appropriately played by perennially saucy comedy legend Lily Tomlin.

Country music has been everywhere this week with the new soapy drama Nashville airing Wednesday nights and the Country Music Awards handing out statues last night. It’s only fitting, then, that Malibu Country, the new sitcom starring legend Reba McEntire debut tonight on ABC.
The series focuses on a mother (who – shocker – is named Reba) who leaves her cheating husband and moves to sunny Malibu, California with her two teen-aged kids and wise-cracking mother (played by Lily Tomlin). The supporting cast includes Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect, Popular) as Real Housewives-esque neighbor Kim and Jai Rodriguez (Bad Sex, Queer Eye) as sassy Geoffrey, who works at the country music label where Reba is trying to launch her career.
Rue and Rodriguez sat down with AfterElton recently to chat about their new characters and working with legends like McEntire and Tomlin.

Chicago – I wasn’t a big fan of “Last Man Standing” when it premiered over a year ago but it looks like a landmark program when compared to the vastly inferior new sitcom with which it has been paired, the new “Malibu Country” with Reba (who apparently goes by one name now) and Lily Tomlin. Both shows hearken back to the old-fashioned Tgif brand of programming, complete with laugh tracks and borderline offensive cliches. Do you miss “According to Jim” and “My Wife and Kids”? ABC has a couple of shows for you.
And I don’t mean that to sound as cynical or negative as it might. The fact is that sitcoms have come a long way in the last decade and what used to be passable in the genre looks cliched now. I have no problem with a well-done family sitcom (“The Middle” borders on being a great...

Remember the ABC of yore, when it aired its classic Tgif lineup that we couldn't get enough of? "Perfect Strangers" and "Full House" were there at one time; so was "Family Matters" and "Step By Step." Ah, good times, good memories. It seems like the alphabet network wants those warm n' fuzzies once again, trying to bring back some of that nostalgia by adding two family-friendly comedies to cap off the end of the week: the second season of Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" and the debut of "Malibu Country," starring Reba McEntire. It's too bad the new shows are being written like it's still the '90s.

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.
It’s tricky to get a solid feel...

ABC is reaching back to its Tgif past this fall by putting a pair of family comedies on Friday nights: Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" and "Malibu Country," a new series with country-music star Reba McEntire in the lead role.
McEntire (or just Reba -- that's how ABC refers to her, anyway) plays a woman whose famous husband (Jeffrey Nordling) has cheated on her, so she takes her kids and her mom (comedy pro Lily Tomlin) to a small house in Malibu -- the only thing she gets in the divorce -- and tries to get her own, long-delayed music career rolling.
"Malibu Country" also stars Sara Rue ("Rules of Engagement," "Less Than Perfect") as Reba's very friendly new neighbor, Juliette Angelo as Reba's daughter and Jai Rodriguez ("Queer Eye for the Straight Guy") as Reba's new agent, who's initially less than sanguine about her career prospects.
