With the Todd Phillips-helmed Joker movie still over a year away, many aren’t sure what to make of this upcoming standalone outing, and while plenty of fans responded well to their first look at Joaquin Phoenix as the famed DC villain, others have their doubts.
This division in public opinion is evidenced in the range of responses to the latest images of Arthur Fleck sporting the classic Joker costume. On the one hand, a lot of fans are very much on board with next year’s release in general, and Phoenix’s take on the title character in particular:

I’m getting Ceser Romero vibes off the makeup and costume, which is a plus in my book cause that’s my favorite Joker.

The documentary Wild Horse, Wild Ride, directed by the husband-and-wife filmmaking team of Greg Gricus and Alex Dawson, follows a diverse group of trainers as they prepare to participate in the 2009 Extreme Mustang Makeover. This annual event is a contest in which 100 amateur and professional trainers present the results of their 100 days of work taming wild mustangs. The animals are then put up for auction and adoption to avoid federal corrals.
The entrants here include a Navajo ex-rodeo champ and his son, a roofer from Wisconsin, a Texan and his seventh wife, a PhD in biomedical engineering, a pair of New Hampshire brothers, and a single mom Arizona cowgirl. The first interactions between human and animal are fascinating, as the trainers apply different approaches and connections grow as the horses learn to trust their trainers. When it’s time for the big event in Fort Worth it feels almost secondary,...

Title: Wild Horse, Wild Ride Directors: Alex Dawson and Greg Gricus Director Cindy Meehl’s soulful, Sundance-minted “Buck,” which told the story of quietly charismatic horse whisperer Buck Brannaman, illustrated just about as well as any film could the unique and poignant connection between man and horse, and how taming wild or otherwise unruly mustangs is a process that often reveals as much about the owner as it does the horse. Following in its nonfiction footsteps (or horseshoe tracks, I guess) is “Wild Horse, Wild Ride,” an engaging look at a bunch of folks who try to do just that. As with many other documentaries of sub-cultural curiosity, “Wild Horse, Wild [ Read More ]...

The best so-called “horse movies” are especially successful when they manage to seduce those members of the audience who have never identified as horse lovers. Often playing more like a cowboy/cowgirl movie than a documentary, Wild Horse, Wild Ride takes the viewer on an unforgettable journey across the American Southwest where, together,...

New Jersey isn't just about orange people with dangerously sharp hair and cleavage you can't escape; it's also about Vampires - the kind that rip your head off with teeth or sharp nails. And an ambitious theatre troupe is proving its love for the fanged with a live performance of Nosferatu.
Based on the 1923 German Expressionist film by F.W. Murnau, writer/director Alex Dawson's stage adaptation additionally draws on Chinese shadow-play, Shakespeare, and explorer/orientalist Richard Burton's translation of Hindu vampire fables to tell the story of Count Orlock, a rat-fanged Romanian looking for love even as he brings a boatload of Black Death to a German village.
From the team that brought you A Clockwork Orange with makeup by Tom Savini alumnus Dan Diana and original music by composer Bruce Donnola, the production, which stars film actress Quinn Shephard as Ellen Hutter and Shakespearean actor Caryle Owens as the eponymous Nos,...
