Rob Riggle is in final negotiations to topline The Gabriels (formerly House Rules), Fox’s single-camera comedy pilot from 20th TV and Principato Young. I hear the deal also includes a producing/development component for Riggle. Written by Andrew Gurland and Justin Hurwitz and to be directed by Jason Winer, The Gabriels centers on a neurotic family with contempt for all things normal that tries their best to fit into their small Midwest town where everyone knows each other and politeness reigns. Riggle will play the family’s patriarch in the pilot, executive produced by Gurland, Hurwitz, David Dobkin, Peter Principato and Paul Young. Riggle, repped by Wme, Principato-Young and attorney Warren Dern, most recently had a talent/development deal at HBO, and the pay cable network will continue to develop the projects he originated there. Birthday shoutouts go to Naveen Andrews (above), who is 44, Paul Young is 57, Jim Carrey is 51, Zooey Deschanel is 33, and Susanna Hoffs is 54.. My Secret Past: Gareth Thomas Coming Out airs tonight in the UK, and he reveals that he hoped Rugby would turn him straight. “If I hadn’t had the rugby field to get rid of my aggression I would have been locked up a long time ago. By hurting people and being aggressive on the pitch, I was seen as a tough guy. And if you’re known as a tough guy it means you’re not gay.” Without Susan Boyle, the Les Miserables movie might never have happened. You hear that, Brian Juergens? In ratings news, there's good news and bad news for American Idol . It was still the top rated show by a long shot, but ... it was down 19% from last year's season premiere, and...

Variety’s Jon Weisman wonders why the results of Oscar voting is kept a secret. Sasha Stone of Awards Daily fills us in on the state of the race, and like me, feels Lincoln is still the film to beat, though she reminds us that nobody knows anything. Screen Rant’s Paul Young ranks the 13 Best Movie Posters of 2012, with a very, um, surprising yet inspired choice for #1. He followed it up with the 13 Worst Movie Posters of 2012. Pete Hammond at Deadline previews the race for Adapted and Original Screenplay, and then Director.
