Chris Pratt is now an A-list movie star starring in some of the biggest franchises and also having the star power to draw audiences to theaters. The actor has worked hard since the beginning of his career and deserves his current fame and success. However, the actor did not have the greatest life while he was growing up as a kid.

Pratt’s humility and relatability stem from his humble beginnings where he couldn’t afford everything he wanted. His family had very little money at the time and he couldn’t even buy comic books. This made him understand the value of money and the struggle to earn even a buck in real life.

As the upcoming Ryan Gosling–Emily Blunt crowd-pleaser “The Fall Guy” shows, doing stuntwork in Hollywood can be risky business. That is why you are supposed to leave it to the professionals.
But Chris Pratt decided to get in the mix a little bit during the production of his next film, “Mercy,” and the result didn’t go so well.
As he shared on Instagram, the “Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor, after saluting his stunt team, admitted he “sometimes tr[ies] to get in there and do some of my own stuff. Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.” He included the “thinky guy” emoji and two photos—one of a bandaged foot, the other looking a bit scratched and puffy. It’s unclear to what degree this injury will delay shooting.

Chris Pratt is off to a rough start on his latest film.
“Mercy filming day 4,” he wrote on Ig Thursday next to a photo of his elevated ankle wrapped in an ice pack. “I have such a great stunt team! And I sometimes try to get in there and do some of my own stuff. Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.”
In a second photo, the ice pack is off to reveal a badly swollen and bruised ankle.
Over the last couple of days, Pratt has been snapped filming Mercy around Los Angeles doing his own stunts including him, dressed as an LAPD cop, chasing a guy in Malibu, with both of them ending up in the ocean.

Starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, sci-fi thriller Mercy is taking shape, with Kali Reis and Rafi Gavron among the actors joining its cast.
For the past few months, Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has quietly assembled what could end up being one of the starriest sci-fi films of 2025. In January, Amazon MGM bought up the global theatrical rights for Mercy – which is unsurprising, given the package: it has Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson attached as its stars, and Hollywood veteran Charles Roven as its producer.
In the weeks since, more and more names have been added, including Annabelle Wallis (who starred in the gleefully twisted Malignant) and Kali Reis, who made a strong impression in the hit series True Detective: Night County. Most recently, Deadline reports that four more actors have been added to the roster: Rafi Garon (A Star Is Born), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), Kenneth Choi (9-...

Landscape with Invisible Hand spins around an alien intrusion on Earth from a futuristic viewpoint and develops a storyline around it. Everyone is trying to align themselves with the evolution brought out in the world by the weird-looking aliens, and so is the character played by Kylie Rogers, Chloe. Everyone is trying to fit into the standards set by the Vuvvs, and many have been victimized in the process. The dystopian scenario created by the aliens destroying human existence is similar to that of the sci-fi film The 5th Wave. One such character who has been a victim of the rapid changes and industrialization brought forth by the Vuvvs is Chloe. She is a new girl at the school who instantly charms Adam, and later, he decides to take her home along with her family.

Olivia Rodrigo had to "walk out" of new movie 'Beau is Afraid'.The 20-year-old star admitted she struggles with horror movies, and she has described Joaquin Phoenix's surreal tragi-comedy horror - which was written and directed by Ari Aster - as a "bad acid trip".Speaking to Phoebe Bridgers for Interview magazine, she said: "I convince myself that I see s**t after I come home from watching Insidious or something.“Also, I watched that new Ari Aster movie 'Beau Is Afraid' and I got so scared. I literally had to walk out of the theater."I have never had such a visceral reaction to a movie in my life. It felt like a bad acid trip.”Phoebe agreed, saying: "[It was] the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, but I was laughing the entire time.”Olivia added: “That’s the only reasonable reaction. Your body just can’t process it.

When JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray wrote his review of Hereditary and Midsommar writer/director Ari Aster‘s latest film Beau Is Afraid (you can read the review Here), he struggled to figure out which genre label best described it. He wrote, “While Aster is known for his horror films, this isn’t so easy to classify. It has horror elements and striking scenes of graphic violence, but it’s also blackly comedic. Yes, in some ways, you might call this a comedy, albeit not the ‘haha’ type. It’s also a Freudian psychodrama.” But as far as singer/songwriters Olivia Rodrigo and Phoebe Bridgers are concerned, Beau Is Afraid was a terrifying horror film, as they both talked about being scared by it during a conversation published by Interview Magazine.

Every now and then a film comes along that manages to reinvigorate a genre and causes filmmakers to reevaluate exactly what a film is supposed to pass along to an audience. With the new science fiction piece called Landscape with Invisible Hand, filmmaker Cory Finley has done just that – created a genre piece that transcends the genre to become great art.
Several years into the occupation of Earth by aliens called the Vuvv – which initially held the promise of prosperity for all and marvelous technological advances, that didn’t exactly pan out – humanity has grown complacent and, in many ways, stagnant. One thing the Vuvv are fascinated with is the human capacity to love and will pay interested humans to allow them to experience it via lives-tream broadcasts that are the main form of entertainment for the creatures.
These broadcasts can lead to steady incomes and better lives for the humans that mount successful ones.

You don’t see too many science fiction comedy-dramas heading into movie theaters these days – or any days, quite frankly – so that alone is cause to celebrate the arrival of “Landscape With Invisible Hand,” the odd title of an intriguing film that opens today (Friday) in limited release, starring a cast of mostly unknowns with the exception of Tiffany Haddish in a prime co-starring role. It’s written and directed by Cory Finley, who directed the Emmy-winning 2020 made-for-tv movie “Bad Education” that starred Hugh Jackman. And its composer is Michael Abels, a Pulitzer Prize winner and two-time Emmy nominee whose genre-defying scores include the Jordan Peele horror trio “Get Out,” “Us” and “Nope.”

Re-releases reliably dot the theatrical calendar and this week have a standout. Oldboy, the 2004 Cannes prize-winner, re-released by Neon on its 20th anniversary restored and remastered, grossed $235k on Wednesday and $150k Thursday — for a total cume $385k on 250 screens heading into the weekend.
San Francisco, NYC and LA, led by Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, are the top-performing cities so far for Park Chan-wook’s classic film — the first screening in U.S. theaters since its original North American release in 2005.
Oldboy follows Oh Dae-Su (Choi Min-sik), who, after being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, is released but must find his captor in five days. The critically acclaimed film is the second installment of Park’s The Vengeance Trilogy, preceded by Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and followed by Lady Vengeance (2005). The “invisible hand of the marketplace” is a favorite term of laissez-faire globalized economics, but Landscape With Invisible Hand is a dark comedy science fiction tale about a teen-aged artist living on a near-future Earth transformed by twenty years of occupation by creatures from another planet. We expect invaders from space to be scary monster with big weapons but what if the space aliens who came to conquer the Earth weren’t monsters with ray guns but annoying, harmless-looking bureaucrats who used economic soft power and brought advanced technology which made most human jobs obsolete?

Plot: In the near future, aliens have taken over the earth, and the economy will be ruined. The upper-class lives in hovering sky domes while the working class toils on earth, trying to make ends meet in a world where virtually all industries have ceased to operate. In this impoverished future, a sensitive teen artist (Asante Blackk) navigates first love, the need to express himself creatively, and his family’s relationship with the occupying aliens.
Review: Landscape with Invisible Hand is unusual for an alien invasion story. Based on the book by M.T. Anderson, Cory Finley (Thoroughbreds and Bad Education) depicts an alien takeover that happened without any violence. Instead, the aliens superior technology and business acumen allowed them to make deals with the wealthiest, most influential humans, and now they have their hands (or flippers) in everything.
The aliens in this look almost comical. They resemble slimy coffee tables...

In what is poised to be a case of Warner Bros beating itself for the No. 1 spot at the box office this coming weekend, the studio’s new DC superhero title Blue Beetle is poised to halt Barbie‘s three-weekend streak with a $28M-$32M opening. Barbie, meanwhile, is looking at a $22M-$24M fifth weekend, -30%, per industry sources. Through Monday, the Greta Gerwig-directed Mattel doll feature counts $531.2M — the studio’s domestic top-grossing title ever.
As we told you, the Angel Manuel Soto-directed Blue Beetle is overindexing with Latino and Hispanic audiences, hence the hope is that there will be plenty of walk-up business. That was the case with Warners’ The Meg 2: The Trench, which hit a $30M start at the top of its projections two weekends ago. Blue Beetle crawls into 3,850 locations and will play in Imax theaters, which the pic gains in full from Oppenheimer.

Tiffany Haddish (The Aftermath) agrees to marriage with an alien in the final trailer for Landscape with Invisible Hand. Based on M.T. Anderson’s satirical sci-fi novel, the strange story is set in a time in which aliens have taken over Earth without wiping out the human population.

As depicted in a new trailer, the upcoming Tiffany Haddish-starring film Landscape with Invisible Hand imagines a world in which an alien species called the Vuvv has taken over Earth and humans are just trying to get by. For Haddish’s Beth Campbell, that apparently means agreeing to take on one of the extraterrestrials as her “pretend husband” so it can be “immersed in the human culture.”
Thankfully for Haddish, her new alien spouse isn’t equipped for sex with humans, but her children understandably aren’t very happy about the situation. Her son Adam (Asante Blackk) responds to a request for a hug with disdain, saying, “That thing is not my dad.” And when Haddish says she believes that the Vuvv “have hearts,” Adam retorts, “I literally think they don’t have circulatory systems. Period.” Watch the trailer for the sci-fi comedy below.

"At some point it starts being domination." Indeed - and I wonder if that's where we are now with society? MGM has unveiled a final official trailer for the audacious sci-fi film Landscape with Invisible Hand, directed by Cory Finley (of Thoroughbreds and Bad Education previously). The film opens in US theaters nationwide this Friday, on August 18th. This is adapted from the book of the same name by M.T. Anderson (which comes highly recommended), and it first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (our review). "Welcome to the future, where the entertainment is us." When an occupying alien species' (who are called Vuvv) bureaucratic rule and advanced technology leaves most of Earth impoverished and unemployed, two teenagers hatch a risky plan to ensure their families' futures. It's a clever commentary on capitalism and art and how we sacrifice our integrity just to make money. Even though...

Years into a benevolent alien occupation of Earth, the human race is still adjusting to the new world order and its quirky coffee table-sized overlords called the Vuvv. Their flashy advanced technology initially held promise for global prosperity, but rendered most human jobs – and steady income – obsolete. When 17-year-old artist Adam Campbell (Asante Blackk) and new girlfriend Chloe Marsh (Kylie Rogers) discover the Vuvv are particularly fascinated with human love and will pay for access to it, they decide to livestream their budding romance to make extra cash for themselves and their families. Life is good, for a while, until the flame of their teenage love fizzles out and they’re forced to make very different, absurdly life-altering sacrifices for their families.

Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan has already hinted that Kelly Reilly’s polarizing Beth Dutton likely won’t cross over to the in-the-works Paramount+ offshoot of the hit drama that we all expect to star Matthew McConaughey. “My idea of a spinoff is the same as my idea of a prequel,” the EP told our sister site The Hollywood Reporter. “Read into that what you will.”
But even if Sheridan is ready and/or willing to let go of Beth, we’re not. So we’d green-light a new series that goes off to college with the firebrand, played in her teens by Kylie Rogers.

Love is a purely human emotion that can’t be faked — such is the theme at the center of the first trailer for Cory Finley’s “Landscape With Invisible Hands,” released Tuesday.
The film is based on the book by M.T. Anderson and, per the official synopsis, it takes place years into a benevolent occupation of Earth by an alien species. “When 17-year-old artist Adam Campbell (Asante Blackk) and new girlfriend Chloe Marsh (Kylie Rogers) discover the Vuvv are particularly fascinated with human love and will pay for access to it, they decide to livestream their budding romance to make extra cash for themselves and their families. Life is good, for a while, until the flame of their teenage love fizzles out and they’re forced to make very different, absurdly life-altering sacrifices for their families.”
The trailer looks like a quirky romantic comedy, albeit with an alien invasion in the middle of it.

The 2023 Canadian film Beau is Afraid, directed and written by Ari Aster and starring Joaquin Phoenix, is a trip to an incomprehensible nightmare that you won’t be able to escape.
Ari Aster has done it before with “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” and now he has created another film that can only be made by him. This is a journey into madness from the very beginning, and it’s a film that you’ll either love or hate.
Beau is Afraid (2023)
Joaquin Phoenix, one of those actors who loves to carry the weight of the film and whose abilities allow him to do so, stars in “Beau is Afraid. While we eagerly await “Joker 2” and its highly anticipated co-star (none other than Lady Gaga), Phoenix offers another one of those performances that only he could do justice to. Ari Aster is an excellent director, and with Phoenix’s signature already on the dotted line,...

There’s a scene at the start of Beau is Afraid in which the titular character (Joaquin Phoenix) is given new medication by his therapist (Stephen McKinley Henderson). Beau takes the pills “incorrectly”, triggering a panic attack which sets in motion a series of events depicting his deteriorating/fluctuating mental state. It’s a fleeting scene but one that seems to suggests everything forth could be taken with a pinch of dimethyltryptamine. For what unravels is a cerebral cortex swirling sense assault within a world locked in a perpetual Purge film parody, and writer/director Ari Aster utilising post-pandemic paranoia to heighten his action and comedy.
The story starts with the bereft, jittery Beau, a middle aged loner wallowing in paranoia prior to catching a flight to visit his mother, but when his front door key and luggage get stolen Beau is forced to abandon the trip. A brutal street...

If you were planning to take mushrooms before heading to the theater for Midsommar director Ari Aster’s new movie Beau Is Afraid, lead actor Joaquin Phoenix has shared a “public service announcement” advising you against it.
Phoenix shared the warning in a recent interview with Fandango, saying, “I was told from someone in college that there was this college thread amongst friends, a challenge they were going to take mushrooms and go see this movie. And I just wanted to make a public service announcement and say, do not take mushrooms and go see this fucking movie.”
The actor jokingly added, “But if you do it, film yourself. But don’t do it!”
Elsewhere in the interview, Phoenix recommended checking out Beau Is Afraid in IMAX and remembered his first experience of watching the film as a member of an audience. “If you can, [IMAX is] the way to fucking see it!

Beau Is Afraid – and confused and feeling guilty and often fleeing in panic, as he is caught in a world of bizarre events, in director/writer Ari Aster’s nightmarish fever dream of a movie, Beau Is Afraid. And mostly, Beau has mommy issues. This unsettling horror mind-trip, with a touch of darkest humor and surrealist fantasy, has the prefect star, that master of madness, Joaquin Phoenix, who plays an anxious, nervous man who might be prone to hallucinations who sets out to do a seemingly simple thing: visit his mother.
Craziness is afoot and there is plenty for Beau to be afraid of in Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid. The weird, imaginative and sometimes darkly humorous Beau Is Afraid is a squirm-inducing experience from a director who is scary good at creating unsettling movies, whose previous films...

Among the strange cast of characters Beau (Joaquin Phoenix) meets on his nightmarish journey through the mind of Ari Aster, perhaps the most memorable is Nathan Lane’s Roger. At first glance, he’s living the idyllic suburban American dream: a spacious house, a successful job as a surgeon, married to a loving wife (Amy Ryan’s Grace). The facade begins to break when we learn more: his son was killed in military duty, virtually replaced by his Ptsd-stricken fellow comrade Jeeves (Denis Ménochet) who now lives outside their house and is prone to violent outbursts; their daughter Toni (Kylie Rogers) despises both them and the new addition of their family, Beau, who is recuperating in her room; and Roger and Grace may or may not want to trap Beau inside their domain with no chance for escape, extending their fabricated family.
