Karl Frid (b. 1979) studied classical music at the Royal College of Music in London, Afro-Cuban music at the CNSEA in Havana, and Afro-American music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. His vast knowledge in music ranges from classical and jazz to Latin, hip-hop and pop music.
Karl is mostly known for his score for Pleasure, by Ninja Thyberg, which was in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival 2020 and later premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2021, where it received outstanding reviews with special mentions of the score. For his work on Pleasure, Karl was nominated for the Discovery of the Year award at the World Soundtrack Awards in 2022, and also won the Crystal Pine Award at the International Sound and Film Music Festival the same year. Karl's latest work for film is the Belgian feature Skiff by Cecilia Verheyden, which will have its premiere in 2024.
Since 2011 Karl has been working closely with his brother Pär Frid at the Frid & Frid Studio in Stockholm. Together they have written music for several films and TV-series of different genres. In 2018 they were nominated in the category best music at the Swedish Film Institute's award "Guldbaggen" for the score of the documentary Citizen Schein. Their latest works together includes the TV-series All and Eva by Johanna Runevad, that was in competition at Series Mania in 2024, as well as the TV-series A Life's Worth by Ahmed Abdullahi, that will have it's premiere in 2025.
