Vanessa Kirby’s Aluna Entertainment has announced the return of its Aluna Labs, an emerging talent development program, designed to champion the next generation of female talent in film.
Taking place in London, the Lab invites applications from female-identifying writers, directors and producers from across the UK. Applicants will apply with a treatment for a debut feature, in any genre, that they wish to develop through the program. Applications open via Zealous tomorrow and close Friday, June 28.

Marcel Theroux To Investigate Playboy Bunny Murders
Louis Theroux’s brother Marcel Theroux is to investigate the playboy bunny murders for Itvx. In The Playboy Bunny Murders, the novelist will examine the brutal murders that shocked London in the 1970s, when Eve Stratford, a Playboy Bunny who aspired to be a famous model, Lynda Farrow, a croupier with years of experience working in nighttime London, and Lynne Weedon, a schoolgirl whose whole life lay ahead of her, were all murdered. Itvx has gained exclusive access to friends, colleagues and relatives of the victims and will provide intimate insight, as Theroux attempts to track down police files, examines new breakthroughs and travels across the world in search of answers. Soho Studios and Future Studios are producing the two-parter for the ITV streaming service. Theroux said the story has “obsessed him for years.” Executive producers are Ian Lamarra for Soho Studios and John Farrar for Future Studios.

The Edinburgh TV Festival has revealed the 105 successful candidates that have been selected for its talent schemes — Ones to Watch, TV PhD and The Network. The schemes are part of The TV Foundation, the festival’s charity with a mission to identify and nurture the next generation of talent from all backgrounds.
Ones to Watch is aimed at those who already have three or more years’ experience in TV and are looking to make the next big step. The candidates will be in Edinburgh for the festival with a full festival pass, where they will participate in bespoke sessions and panels. In addition, they will receive 12 months of mentoring from senior industry figures.
The Network is the TV Foundation’s scheme for aspiring industry entrants. Delegates will be given three days of workshops and sessions designed to introduce them to the TV industry and equip them to begin successful TV careers.

Aardman, the Oscar-winning UK animation studio, has inked a deal with Chinese major Tencent that will see its Shaun The Sheep series hosted on the latter’s video platform. Shaun is hosted around the world by Netflix, which isn’t in China so this latest deal completes the global picture on the franchise. The Chinese streamer will receive 170 x 7’ episodes of the show, including series six which launched earlier this year. “Our new deal with Tencent Video is a truly exciting next step for our business in China and a great moment for the studio,” said Aardman’s Robin Gladman, Senior Distribution and Acquisitions Manager.

The British Film Institute (BFI) has named the 12 writers, directors and producers who will take part in its annual Network@Lff professional development programme.
The BFI Network scheme, which runs October 4-7 during the BFI London Film Festival (Lff), will see the participants take part in masterclasses, screenings, networking and one-to-one sessions with visiting international filmmakers and executives who are screening work at the Lff.
