Exclusive: Carrie Preston says viewers will learn a lot more about Elsbeth Tascioni in season two of her CBS show and should also buckle-up for some surprises. She is also aiming high with her dream guest star ahead of Elsbeth‘s second outing.
Preston is at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival and sat down with Deadline to talk about the show. CBS has renewed the freshman series for the 2024-2025 season and Preston said the team is gearing up for a run that has been extended from ten episodes in season one to 20 episodes in season two.
The writers will stick to the procedural formula but add twists in season two. “You’re going to be able to enjoy the structure of the how-done-it, but they’re going to mix that up, so don’t be thinking you know exactly what you’re going to get each time,” Preston said. “They...

Everyone's favorite Chicago attorney came to the Big Apple as the "police of the police" to keep an eye on the boys in blue while lending a hand to the NYPD string of murder cases.
By the end of Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 1, viewers found out that the lawyer turned sleuth was in NYC for a different matter entirely.
Elsbeth was sent to watch Captain Wagner, but that didn't stop this intrepid purveyor of truth from cracking one murder case after another.
One of the first things audiences likely noticed about this series is that it is a spinoff of a spinoff, as Elsbeth first appeared in The Good Wife.
She then went to The Good Fight, where she continued her quirky approach and eventually got her own series.
Elsbeth has a much more fun and whimsical tone than its fellow series, all of which are part of The Good Wife franchise.

According to rumors, James Gunn will make Green Arrow a part of his Justice League team in the Dcu. The character has a decent fanbase, thanks to Stephen Amell’s eight-season run as Oliver Queen in The CW show, Arrow. Earlier, Zack Snyder tried to include the character in the Dceu, with another actor considered for the role, but it didn’t ultimately work out. Interestingly, rumors also suggest that Dcu will make Black Canary his partner.

Amell expressed interest in reprising the character for a film version, which also didn’t happen probably due to Amell’s personal life troubles. The character Black Canary appeared in the Dceu, played by Jurnee Smollett, in the film Birds of Prey.

You'd think that in an episode centered around a bar and its owner, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9 would have some sort of death by the drink, but in this episode, the murderer went with an oldie but a classic.
In "Sweet Justice," audiences meet Joe, the owner of an exclusive high-end bar who decides to take justice into his own hands by murdering one of his patron's bullies.
It would almost be sweet if his form of justice didn't involve homicide, oh, and killing the wrong woman.
Gracing the small screen this week for yet another familiar face is Arian Moayed.
Surprisingly, he did not already appear in The Good Wife or The Good Fight, but viewers might recognize him from Succession.
As for his character, anyone who frequents Netflix might notice some similarities between this Joe and another who also enjoys stalking women who have caught his eye in a little show called "You.

We’re currently in the era of movies and shows adapted from fan-favorite and long-standing video games, and so many fans are here for it. From last year’s big hit The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal to the most recent Prime Video’s bombshell Fallout, the video game world is currently taking over the modern cinema with never-ending ideas for sequels and following seasons.
Last year was also marked by Five Nights at Freddy’s, another major release based on a popular game franchise, and the overall success was so grand that a sequel didn’t take too long to be announced.
While there’s still nothing to know for sure about the upcoming second film, the nascent franchise still needs to keep in mind some major aspects of the original game to stay afloat on the same level of thriving in the future.

Like a dog with a bone, Elsbeth is on the case of a pilfered pooch like she has a bone to pick in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 8.
Technically, it's the dog's owner that Elsbeth is looking into, but this episode is so crammed with canines that it's hard to focus on anything other than the adorable dogs.
However, at the center of "Artificial Genius" is Quinn, the CEO of a location-based crime alert app called Cerberus. Audiences who watched the Netflix show You will likely recognize Elizabeth Lail as the actress who portrayed Beck.
Elsbeth has solidified certain formulaic practices, such as having a familiar face as the murderer in each episode, but now we can add to that. Elizabeth Lail joins the list of continued actors who have already portrayed characters in The Good Wife universe.

It looks like Elsbeth and the NYPD will be patrolling for some paws in Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 8, "Artificial Genius." Although, considering the title of the episode and the nature of the promo, it's hard to see the connection between a missing dog and artificial intelligence.
However, if there is one thing that this show is good at, it's balancing the level of camp with a clever plot structure.
Elsbeth has easily figured out some of the genuinely bizarre methods of murder so far, like a nitroglycerin-dosed sports towel; thank you, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 5, for that stretch of the imagination that won't soon be forgotten.
She can more than handle the procurement of a possibly pilfered pooch.
In the upcoming installment of Elsbeth's premier season, Elizabeth Lail debuts as Quinn, the weekly murderer. Viewers might recognize her as Beck from the Netflix sensation You.

We’re deep into 2024 territory as of the time of writing, but our good friends and Deadline have decided to go back to last year and reveal the most profitable box office blockbusters of 2023. It was a short trip down memory lane, but it was done properly because all the numbers were finally in, and there was enough time to objectively interpret the facts and numbers before us. This is why we decided to report on this list.
The list will contain a total of 10 titles and, as you will see, Disney falls short in this list (unlike the box office bombs list), but there are a lot of animated films there and quite a few surprises. This list doesn’t account for the total gross earnings of a movie but speaks about the profit made by the movie based on the budget and the earnings, which is a thing...

Elsbeth’s season 1 run is far from being over with the final episode set to be released on May 25, but a brand new clip gives a major hint at some exciting guest appearances in the upcoming episodes.
A police procedural comedy drama, Elsbeth follows an eccentric attorney whose shrewd observations come in handy when she needs to deal with New York’s criminal world — and it looks like she will get some help from Hollywood’s famous comedians.
The one-minute-long brand new trailer opens with the scene where Elsbeth introduces herself to a couple with the woman describing Elsbeth as “that odd woman that works with the police'', also calling her funny.
The main character then proceeds to interact with Keegan-Michael Key explaining to him that she used to be a lawyer back in the day, but then found her vocation in solving murder cases — both characters later appear to...

Update: At CinemaCon, Universal confirmed they’ll be releasing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in Fall 2025.
The original article follows:
The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So of course they’re developing a sequel, even if one hasn’t been officially announced yet. Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson already said back in January that they were “nailing down the story” and hoping to get into production as soon as possible. Now Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has shared a picture that was taken at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the company that provided the...

Turn on the security cameras, because Freddy Fazbear is on the loose again. “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” one of 2023’s most unexpected box-office sensation, is getting a sequel from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.
Jim Orr, Universal Pictures President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution, announced the news on Wednesday, during the company’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. No other news about the film — such as a release window, creative team, or cast — was unveiled.
The announcement comes six months after “Five Nights at Freddy’s” became a hit at the October box office, where it grossed $297.2 million on a mere $20 million budget. A sequel film was probably greenlit by Act 3 of the first one.
The success of the film, an adaptation of the viral indie horror video game franchise by Scott Cawthon, was especially impressive given Universal’s decision to release it simultaneously in theaters and on the streaming service Peacock. The...

There’s no shortage of fans of Showtime’s Dexter series, mainly because it was a brilliant piece of television with a very intriguing and charismatic leading character played perfectly by Michael C. The original series ended its run after its eighth season in 2013 with a finale that was widely by fans and critics, and that was the reason that the series came back for a single season in 2021 titled Dexter: New Blood but its finale also divided fans. Hutcherson told Variety, “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal. We...

"Five Nights at Freddy's" is getting a sequel. As expected, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are wasting no time in getting a sequel to last year's hit video game adaptation going. While the studio has yet to make a formal announcement, star Josh Hutcherson recently revealed that a follow-up to the horror flick is in the works as we speak, and it sounds very much like the brass wants to get the ball moving sooner rather than later.
Hutcherson recently spoke with Variety while promoting his new movie "The Beekeeper." During the conversation, he addressed the status of "Five Nights at Freddy's 2." He confirmed that the story is being worked on as we speak. "I know they're in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible," Hutcherson said. Lillard told Syfy Wire he would love to reprise the role of William Afton. “If it does come back, and if I’m lucky to be brought back, sure, yeah. I mean, I barely got to touch him, right? I got to kill my daughter, but we know nothing about him. We know nothing about his history, about his journey.

It was a very crowded holiday weekend at the box office, with Disney's "Wish" and director Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" taking the lion's share of attention, while Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" ended up topping the charts for a second weekend in a row in a surprise upset. While all of that was going on, Blumhouse's smash horror hit "Five Nights at Freddy's" quietly became the studio's biggest hit ever. Yes, as hard as it may be to believe, the video game adaptation now stands alone as the biggest of big hits from a studio that has delivered a great many hits over the last decade.

Blumhouse Productions has been one of the biggest names in horror for several years now, putting out movies like The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises, among many others. October 6th saw the theatrical release of their Exorcist sequel The Exorcist: Believer, which is meant to be the first entry in a trilogy… and the poor reception that movie got from movie-goers and critics alike wasn’t exactly what Universal and Peacock were hoping for when they forked over around $400 million for the rights to distribute that trilogy. But Blumhouse’s luck turned around three weeks later. That’s when their video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) reached theatres – and that movie has officially become their highest-grossing production!

While several big-budget movies have experienced quite a bit of trouble at the box office both this year and since the pandemic first started in general, one genre continues to stay afloat consistently: horror. And when such movies are geared toward younger audiences and inspired by source material with a rabid fanbase to begin with? Well, that's when you know you probably have a hit on your hands.
That's exactly what happened with "Five Nights at Freddy's," the movie based on the cult video game franchise that promptly smashed box office records the weekend of its release. Not even a thorough critical lashing could stop this runaway hit in its tracks, adding another appropriately irreverent layer to a phenomenon that's likely to become a gateway film for young horror fans everywhere. The director of Five Nights at Freddy's just offered an explanation about the film’s questionable choice regarding Josh Hutcherson’s Mike and Elizabeth Lail’s Vanessa.
In the new Fnaf movie, Vanessa is a local cop whom Mike meets not long after getting the security job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While she’s nice, there’s something questionable about her from the start.
As it turns out, she’s actually the daughter of serial killer William Afton—the same man who kidnapped Mike’s brother. While Vanessa does eventually help save Mike and Abby from her brother, she gets stabbed and falls into a coma after their big confrontation.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a movie directed by Emma Tammi starring Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio, and Elizabeth Lail. Based on a video-game by Scott Cawthon.
As we can see in “Five Nights at Freddy’s”, there are options for everyone, and the combination of genres offers, although it may not always seem like it, almost infinite combinations that never cease to surprise us. This time we have come across this horror movie which, based on its script, should have been a blood-soaked slasher but turned out to be a “family-friendly” film that, to be honest, won’t be the go-to choice for any avid fan of raw cinema.
However, cinematically speaking, it is very well-crafted and showcases impressive shots, atmosphere, and framing.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Plot
A boy who suffers from insomnia and is responsible for his sister has to take care of an old pizzeria that is already closed.

We’ve always known what creeps us out. From clowns to small tight spaces, we as an audience have been subjected to enough now that we know what people and places to stay away from. Some of those have included fun houses, and others include creepy animatronic kid’s entertainment. There's an endless debate between film fans on what it is exactly that makes a film "camp." For some, it's a shorthand to mean "so bad, it's good," while others (like myself) view it as a sacred form of presentation. Camp films are often exaggerated to the point of absurdity, tiptoeing the line of the uncanny, and with a sense of humor that is either unintentionally brilliant or delivered with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Of my 15 favorite movies of all time, more than half of the titles could be argued as camp classics. While there are plenty of universally understood camp films, the intentional lack of a formal metric means that a film's camp status will change from viewer to viewer, determined by vibes and a "you know it when you see it" attitude.

Halloweekend was made for frights at the box office, but few could have predicted the jump-scare of a $78 million opening for “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” Universal’s video game adaptation, hailing from game creator Scott Cawthorn and Blumhouse, just beat out “Scream VI” and “M3GAN” for biggest horror release of the year while streaming simultaneously on Peacock.
“Freddy’s” is the story of Mike (Josh Hutcherson), a security guard trapped in a literal dead-end job at a Chuck E. Cheese-esque arcade and restaurant opposite five haunted animatronics: Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Rabbit, Foxy the Pirate, Chica the Chicken, and Carl the Cupcake. Along for the night shift is his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio) and a spectacularly hapless local cop, Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail).

It’s only been out for two nights, but “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is already off to a robust start at the domestic box office. Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions’ horror film spring-trapped $39.4 million in ticket sales from 3,675 locations on its opening day, a number that includes $10.3 million in preview screenings.
That’s an impressive figure for a release that is already available on streaming. Universal elected to drop “Freddy’s” on its platform Peacock on the same day as its theatrical debut. The studio employed the strategy with previous Blumhouse productions, the slasher sequels “Halloween Kills” ($49 million debut) and “Halloween Ends” ($40 million debut). “Five Nights” looks to be outperforming both of those films though, now projecting a three-day total of $78 million. With a lean production budget of $20 million, it’s already a winner.

You’ve got to know that if Josh Hutcherson (Bridge to Terebitia is the saddest movie I’ve ever seen) is in anything, I will probably watch it and then at least pretend to like it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not only biased because I’ve grown up watching him, but I think he’s quite a fine actor who has the knack for making every role rather amiable. Before we get into the details, I’d like to say I’ve never played the games and know nothing about the lore. So, take this review with a pinch of salt if you’re a fan of the game. Having said that, as someone who went in completely blind, I found Five Nights at Freddy’s a little bit too bleak for what it appears to be. Yes, I do want to try to play the game...

It’s tricky to put a fresh coat of paint on the old killer-robot movie, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Successful spins on the genre have included time-traveling assassination attempts (The Terminator), a satire of tourism and America’s romanticized frontier (Westworld) and noirish ruminations on exactly how humans differ from the artificial life they create (Blade Runner). It seems that if we’re going to watch bots go bad, we want to have some bigger ideas to chew on while we do.
