In South Korea, the 22nd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan) has announced their selection for the 11th Network of Asian Fantastic Films (Naff) project market - including works from Ong Bak producer Prachya Pinkaew and former Cannes and Venice director Woo Ming Jin (The Tiger Factory).
Naff organizers reported a total of 243 submissions from 43 countries this year, out of which they selected a final 26 projects from 19 countries, sorted into four sections – It Project, a Spotlight on India, Blood Window and Nordic Genre Invasion.

Fairy tales are ripe fodder for films, especially short films, and Indian director Bhargav Saikia knows a good fairy tale when he reads it. His latest short film The Black Cat, an adaptation of Indian author Ruskin Bond's short story. Quiet, mysterious, with (yes) an adorable but perhaps a little evil cat, the film ahs been making the rounds at film festivals this year, and is now available to watch online. Mr. Bond buys an interesting broom at one of his favourite shops. But the broom comes with an unexpected addition in the form of a strange black cat that seems intent on staying with its new unwilling owner. Saikia takes his time with the tale, paying great attention to detail, and drawing the viewer...

The Belgian film Cub validates the fear some of us have of spending the night in the woods. Cub on Blu-ray and DVD will hit stores on August 18th. Also: theatrical and digital release details for The Diabolical, HollyShorts Film Festival 2015 lineup, and Manos: The Hands of Fate soundtrack on vinyl.
Cub: Artsploitation Films will release Cub on Blu-ray and DVD on August 18th. Directed by Jonas Govaerts from a screenplay he wrote with Roel Mondelaers, Cub stars Maurice Luijten, Titus De Voogdt, Stef Aerts, Evelien Bosmans, and Jan Hammenecker.
"This dark, bloody, imaginative fairy tale about a camping trip that turns into deadly carnage draws on such influences as Lord of the Rings, Friday the 13th, and The Devil’s Backbone. The story follows 12-year-old outcast Sam who, along with his troop of cub scouts and their teenage supervisors, camp in woods rumored to house a mysterious and deadly werewolf.

Kaafiron Ki Namaaz (The Virgin Arguments), an independent feature film directed by Ram Ramesh Sharma, has been selected in the International Competition section of the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival to be held in South Korea from 1- 10 May.
Scheduled to have its international premiere at the festival, Kaafiron Ki Namaaz is a thriller that tells the story of three men- a recently court-martialed army officer, a writer and his camera assistant- who have a dramatic conversation as the camera assistant becomes a mute spectator to what turns out to be a chilling meeting between the two.
Debutante director Ram Ramesh Sharma studied Cinematography in Whistling Woods International Film School. The film has been produced by Bhargav Saikia, under his banner Lorien Motion Pictures, set up in 2011.
Geethu Mohandas’ Liar’s Dice will also be screened at Jeonju, out of competition.
