With a cast that included Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman, one hell of a hook (stage magicians pull off daring heists as part of their shows), and some great visuals, 2013’s Now You See Me was a refreshing slice of entertainment that enjoyed massive success at the box office. Quadrupling it’s budget was always a sign that a sequel would come our way, and here we are. Now You See Me 2 sees the Horsemen (Eisenberg, Harrelson, Dave Franco and newcomer Lizzie Caplan) gone to ground after the events of the first film left them wanted fugitives. When their secretive handler Dylan Rhodes (Ruffalo) assigns them the task of exposing a corrupt businessman, they find themselves getting a taste of their own medicine, captured and forced to steal a revolutionary computer chip for reclusive technology prodigy Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe). Sequels always go bigger and bolder,...

A spoiler for Now You See Me (the first one) lies within this review.
The first Now You See Me film was a bit of a disappointment for me. That's the danger of a good trailer and stellar cast – if the script can't meet the heights of audience anticipation then it's doomed to fail. In the end, the twist made no sense, the characters didn't gel and nothing really came together the way it was supposed to.
But then, summer 2016 is also an entirely different beast to three years ago. There's so much vying for our attention that a movie like Now You See Me 2 could very well pass by under the radar, unnoticed by everyone but devoted fans of its predecessor. What does a sequel to a disappointing yet fairly well-regarded movie have to do to get people through the door?...

Now You See Me 2 is a great movie. It is about the Horsemen and how they are forced to steal something. There are many familiar faces from the first Now You See Me (2013), but also some new ones that you really grow to love or hate, depending on the character. This movie has amazing tricks, some which have never been seen before and others that have been performed for centuries. Even though the movie starts off sad it has a happy ending that wraps everything up nicely.
This movie, like the last one, will keep you guessing till the end with so many exciting twist and turns. Pay attention to the little things throughout the movie because there are some things that seem pointless or irrelevant that will end up to be very crucial to later events. Now You See Me 2 includes many magical techniques, like sleight of hand and misdirection.
One of the many things I liked about this movie is that it expands on some topics from the first movie. It talks about J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) being a control freak. It also explains some of the relationship between Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) and his dad and the effect it had on Dylan. Overall it was an amazing movie.
There are a lot of wonderful characters, but sadly one Horsemen is not there. Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher), which was a great character from the first movie, Now You See Me, is not in this film. However, Henley is mentioned throughout the movie. In the first part of Now You See Me 2 it is explained that she asked The Eye for an out and they gave it to her. There is a new female Horsemen named Lula (Lizzy Caplan), but she can never replace Henley. Overall this movie is well cast and the characters draw you into the movie.
One of my favorite things from Now You See Me 2 is the fast-paced and incredible sleight of hand moves performed by many of the characters. It was entertaining to watch. I also liked that there are a lot of cool action scenes during the movie. These were thrilling, but there is one thing I would change. The action scenes sometimes were hard to follow and to see what was going on. These scenes are still very intense, however, I feel they could have been shot better. Don’t get me wrong I loved the movie and I can’t wait to watch it again.

Now You See Me 2 (which some thought to be an unnecessary sequel) has once again bottled lightning to Lionsgate’s relief. Louis Leterrier’s Now You See Me *somehow* brought coolness to magic’s stigmatic nature, and – against all odds – Jon M. Chu’s sequel exceeds said coolness. Duelling magicians square off once again in a spectacular battle of illusionist wits, where perception is fooled and wonder trumps all. Ed Solomon and Pete Chiarelli’s heist is more than smoke an mirrors – a social warning preys upon tech-y paranoias, however preachy (and outlandish) it may be – which makes this exciting, spellbinding blockbuster worth the price of admission. This isn’t just any sideshow – these badass wizards of manipulation are the main attraction.

To say that the world of magic or magicians is having a renaissance might be overselling things a bit, but it cannot be denied that films related to the world of magic have appeared with more frequency than one might expect, which is to say at all. The Prestige and The Illusionist kicked it all off and, ironically, served as the artistic peak of the trend. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone made a mockery of its own name and then pulled off its own disappearing act from the popular consciousness. That same year, however, another magician-focused escapade hit theaters, an impish caper film starring four photogenic performers using their skills to become modern day Robin Hoods.
This was Now You See Me, a glossy, special effects-heavy romp that adhered to no sense of reality, but had enough fun and enough cast charisma to paper over a lot of its flaws. It was a boldly self-congratulatory feature,...

It’s no secret that Mark Ruffalo is one of the best and most likable actors out there right now. Not only is he immensely skilled, he just appears to be beloved as a human being as well. Ruffalo has broken through in a bigger way over the last few years, both in terms of Oscar nominations and also bigger budget films. He’s already a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now he can list Now You See Me as another movie franchise of his. This week, Now You See Me 2 opens in theaters and should only increase Ruffalo’s A-list star power, rightly so, I might add. The film is a sequel to Now You See Me, the surprise hit from a few years back. It concerns a magic act that also doubles as a Robin Hood type heist team. Ruffalo plays Dylan Rhodes, who in...

Over the past few months, we’ve heard some pretty awful proposed titles for Now You See Me 2, Summit’s announced sequel to the 2013 magician caper, including (believe it or not) Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Luckily, the filmmakers chose to go with a different tactic when subtitling the follow-up, as Mark Ruffalo has just revealed that the full title is Now You See Me: The Second Act.
Hardly the catchiest title, I know, but it does remind us that the sequel will continue to set up the larger universe merely teased in the first installment. In The Second Act, three of the Four Horsemen (Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Jesse Eisenberg – Isla Fisher opted not to return) are drawn out of hiding to face a new enemy, who enlists them for a dangerous heist. Agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) also returns to the franchise,...

Lionsgate just added two high-profile projects to its upcoming schedule – magician caper sequel Now You See Me 2 and raunchy roadtrip comedy Dirty Grandpa.
The former has been set for June 10th, 2016. It’s a follow-up to last year’s surprise smash hit Now You See Me, which opened to an unexpectedly mighty $29.4 million domestic debut and went on to gross a stellar $351.7 million worldwide.
The sequel is expected to continue the story of The Four Horsemen (Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco), skilled magicians who perform heists, now that the enigmatic Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) has inducted them into a secret society of magicians known as the Eye. Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is sitting in the director’s chair, taking over from Louis Leterrier.
Now You See Me 2, as it’s currently known, is only currently facing down video game adaptation Uncharted on that date.
