Spanish public broadcaster Rtve held its fifth annual Rtve Showcase late last week in Madrid. Eight of the network’s top shows were profiled for international buyers, and several panels debated the current state of affairs in Spain’s TV production industry.
Professionals from around the world tuned into this year’s Showcase, which had the overriding theme of international co-production. Guest speakers from across Europe attended and shared details about their recent experiences working with Rtve and what future collaborations are in the works.
According to Rodolfo Domínguez, Rtve commercial director, more than 200 attendees tuned in to this year’s Showcase, including 70 international buyers from more than 30 territories. Of them, 50% were from Europe, 30% from the Americas, and the other 20% from Asia and the Middle East.
Below, we reflect on two of this year’s most internationally relevant panels and briefly break down Rtve’s original programming lineup featured during the Showcase.

In late April, Banijay Iberia moved waves by taking an equity stake in Alex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang’s Pokeespsie Films, with the aim of scaling up on its Spanish-language high-end original series and fiction production.
Via Shine Iberia, Banijay is also producing biopic “Bosé,” one of Vis’ biggest Spanish-language plays for Paramount Plus, about singer-songwriter Miguel Bosé.
Best known for its entertainment formats – though it does own Barcelona’s Diagonal TV, producer of hit Netflix historical sagas “Cathedral of the Sea” and “Heirs to the Land” and Dlo Producciones, behind “Tell Me Who I Am” and “El Immortal,” – Banijay is now moving to strengthen its position in scripted in the Iberian market and, via it, across the globe.
That is seen at Conecta Fiction, which runs June 21-24 in Toledo, Spain, where Banijay will have one of the biggest presences of any global company at the TV co-production forum,...

‘Big Brother’ Spain Label Zeppelin Unveils MD
Zeppelin, the Banijay Iberia label that introduced Big Brother and entertainment format The Bridge to Spain, has promoted Miguel Martín to MD, replacing Amparo Castellano. Martín joined the label two years ago to work for Banijay Birds, the territory’s creative hub for original streamer IP development, which has seen him exec big local non-scripted titles such as Amazon’s Lol: Last One Laughing. He has previously worked in the U.S. on formats for NBC-Telemundo and Fox. Zeppelin, which will soon turn 30, has introduced Secret Story, Big Brother, The Bridge and Skam España to the Spanish market. Banijay Iberia CEO Pilar Blasco called Martín a “born leader who has shown unbounded creativity.” Castellano spent eight years with the label and one as MD.
