Yahoo! recently announced that Sailor Moon would be returning to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim for Toonami Rewind, a block of programming airing every Friday at 5 p.m. Et starting May 31. But this is not the English dub of "Sailor Moon" that aired on Toonami's original after-school program from 1998 to 2002. Like many young millennials, I was obsessed with the Sailor Scouts and their adventures. Their empowering stories of kicking ass, kissing a handsome prince, and standing up for what's right — all while wearing lip gloss and short skirts — made me believe that girls could do anything. But there was something off about this magical girl anime, something that didn't quite make sense between what I was hearing and seeing.

It's not unusual for the movies to come out of manga and anime series to feel a little off. The stories are often non-canon or otherwise abridged adaptations of ongoing story arcs, and the best thing you can hope for as a viewer is that a given movie captures some hint of what you enjoy about the series. While the movies may not hit the heights of the series, they can still deliver excellent character moments and action.
Whether or not the "Naruto" films deliver on that is up for debate. As the manga and anime series focused on the growth and development of its title character, a young ninja in a fantasy world on the path to glory, the movies give him and some of his coterie of allies non-canonical missions on which they can prove their mettle. For a series weighed down with a large number of "filler...

Few Japanese filmmakers have a cinematic style as distinct and refined as the late Nobuhiko Obayashi. Four years after his feature debut, the wild 1977 horror-comedy “House”, the director helmed the similarly bonkers yet not as widely recognised “School in the Crosshairs”. Loosely based on Taku Mayumura’s novel, “Psychic School Wars”, Obayashi’s second feature for Kadokawa Productions is a pacy and spirited slice of exaggerated high-school drama, with a dose of telekinesis thrown in for good measure.
